I'm not quite sure why Brad's calling it a non-broken issue or cheese tactic if the AI will happily trade $2500 for $1000, particularly when the $2500 comes over a shorter term. You can't even justify it as a loan w/ interest that way. ~SDC~

Can there be a non-pane-specific update button for the threads? I don't like auto-update for various reasons, but having to put my focus up to the top before hitting F5 is a minor pain. ~SDC~
So, here's a suggestion. Can you up the display of pages at the bottom to >10? Even at the minimum width of the application, you should be good to 15 or so. ~SDC~
Great start, thanks! ~SDC~
Hate bumping, but I'm still really confused on this. ~SDC~
The little disband button on the ship details section on the main screen doesn't work correctly on orbiting ships. Instead, it attempts to disband the last selected non-orbiting ship. Opening up the full ship details via the (i) button allows you to disband without breaking orbit. ~SDC~
The explored stuff re-fogs with a -very- dark dotted blue tint. It's similar to the "your influence" blue tint in the minimap that everyone's bitching about. It's much easier to see over, say, an obscured star system but if your gamma's high enough you can see it in empty space too. ~SDC~
Cataleptic: sure, I know it'd be a -simpler- game, with more room for getting position-screwed and less room to make up for mistakes, but I just don't want it to be an -easier- game. :) Cool that Brad's working on this issue so quickly--it looked like a pretty nasty balance hole. ~SDC~
The manual's not very good, to be frank. Give it a skim, then read the Survivor's Guide that's installed with the game. Ultimately, I suspect you'll just end up spending a lot of time in these forums. ~SDC~
er, sorry, that's Econ -10% ~SDC~
How are these actually supposed to work? My party bonuses give me a +20% Trade and +20% Econ. When I have the senate vote, my stats screen lists Trade as +20% and Econ as +30% (after other bonuses). When I don't have the senate vote, I'm listed as Trade -20% and Econ -30%. I thought that it would be 0 and 10% respectively, for having lost the bonuses. Are they actually supposed to -subtract- from your baseline if you've lost the vote? ~SDC~
oh, on the above, the actual senate display shows a different party with a grand majority of the seats. ~SDC~
Loaded a savegame. I was clearly not in control of the senate on the save (I have a few percent of the vote), but upon load, I was listed as in control with bonuses applied. ~SDC~
Frankly, I'm also going to have an issue even if this is only an easy exploit on small/tiny galaxies. I bought GalCiv in no small part because it was advertised as having 1-2 hour games with small universes...I don't have the time or patience for gargantuan games. I sort of expect the AI to be able to handle -any- galaxy size with the same amount of skill, given a difficulty level. ~SDC~
1) The domestic spending sliders really need locks. I'm going nuts trying to keep military as a "reference" value and adjust social and research around it. 2) As has been said before, autopilot's pretty awful as it is. I'd very much prefer something like what HOMM does, where remaining paths are just stored but are never automagically resolved. Instead, you select the unit in question and issue a "continue move" command that sends it along its stored way. On subsequent turns, you
A couple of people have mentioned events not happening unless you press the turn button twice. I'm not finding that I have to press turn twice. However, the date and graphs will often not update until I go in and out of a planet/ship/something info screen, or until I move a ship. Once I do something that would otherwise reset those displays, they catch up to the current month. ~SDC~
Never mind. Found the blurb in the manual about sending to that part of the galaxy. Pressing the button doesn't mark the ship for autopilot until the end of the turn or cause a route to display on the minimap (even if routes are selected) so that threw me off. ~SDC~
When you display a list of ships in the righthand pane, there's a icon by each. Pressing it seems to mark a circle in the center of the strategic map, but I can't tell what it actually -does-. Can someone tip me off?
Thank you very much! I was having the same problem. ~SDC~
So, what's the scoop if you buy the GalCiv box? It would be quite unusual to only have a yearly support contract, as it were, for a boxed product. I've gotten patches for games -years- after they were released. ~SDC~
Ah, yes, it's using my real name. I'm not thrilled about that. ~SDC~
So, I'm a little confused about what name gets used where (though I suppose I'm about to find out for the discussion boards). If you don't like what it's showing for your name/profile, can you contact customer service to get it changed? ~SDC~
