If you made those two changes, I don't see that I'd have much to complain about with the economic model. I'll look forward to GC2.5 or GC3, whenever you decide to do them.

There is no simple solution here. The way it was implemented solved a problem, but it created total whine :/ personally wastign social production doesnt bother me, unless it happens that the big plalents get all the social money and littleones get none, which is a frikin huge problem. I also regularly have to demolish my factories, also stupid. <br/
Here are the things that bother me most and how I'd fix them...if not for GC2, then when the economic model for GC3 is forged: PROBLEM: Ongoing research and ongoing industry shouldn't be straight monetary tradeoffs. If I have 20 factories and 2 labs, I shouldn't have to shut down 10 factories galaxywide to run 1 lab on one world. SOLUTION: Decouple research entirely. Rather than splitting 100% of all capacity between s/m/t, make the tech slider independent.
Strangely, the last one worked, and even persisted across reboots. Thanks! Geo
I can't get WindowFX to show its tray icon. I'm using 2.89a[b].002, and WindowBlinds 5.00b[b].002. WindowFX is loaded, seems to be running OK. Toggling "show system tray icon" off and on has no effect. Anyone else seeing this? Geo Edit: sorry, this was supposed to go into the WindowFX forum, but I guess this works as well. :)
Yeah. I wasn't all that shocked by the behavior, and pretty much knew immediately what was causing it. However, standard Windows full-screen drag works, so figured it was worth reporting. I haven't tried nVidia transparent drag to see if it has the same issue, but it wouldn't surprise me. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/wc/icons/wc.gif" border=0 alt="Posted via WinCustomize Browser/Stardock Cent
If I enable transparency on dragging with WindowFX, Java windows quit working right when they're moved. The frame moves, but the contents stay behind to all appearances, until the app redraws itself for some reason. This is immediately notable with the Java control panel applet. It's possible -any- WindowFX dragging feature will cause this (animations, etc.) but I'm not running with animations enabled.
Hrm. OK. Widespread fault, then. I tried several skins and they all had it.
For some reason, I'm not getting a bottom border on some of my dropdown boxes anymore. I believe the problem came in with WB5, though I just noticed it so it's kind of hard to say. Most notably, it occurs with the Windows Explorer dropdown, but I've seen it in a couple of other places too. It appears to occur with any of the WB themes I've tried, but not with the default Windows theme. You can see the issue here: <img src="http
Gave that a shot already, actually. No love on the fonts, though it did allow me to get all three lines of the Windows clock/calendar (at the cost of some pretty fat buttons). It seems like the bar is divided into "stripes", and the title font of the toolbar just doesn't fit within on most skins. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/wc/icons/wc.gif" border=0 alt="Posted via WinCustomize Browser/Stardo
I use Windows toolbars on my taskbar. More often than not, I find that Windowblinds skins cut off the bottom part of the title of the toolbar, when I choose to show it. Anyone know why, and what setting I can easily toggle to make that not happen? I'd prefer to not have to edit each and every skin in SkinStudio.
Yeah, it's working now. I had to delete my old ini files or the WC browser would crash immediately on entering discussions, but the new ones work just fine.
Actually, looking at the downloaded ini files that drive the forums and the Updated Skins, the WC forums and Updated ini's don't have carriage returns, so they're one long line. That's probably choking the two browsers. The GalCiv forums are formatted correctly. Looks like there's a bug in the Stardock servers right now. [Message Edited]
I get a similar crash with SDC and SkinBrowser. The WC Discussion frame crashes it. So do the skin updates for Skinbrowser. I did a complete wipe and reinstall with no luck.
Can you at least make a mod (or tell us how) so that the UI skins don't change via alignment? That's probably my least favorite feature of the UI, perhaps second only to the semiarbitrary autopilot. ~SDC~
I don't think the majority of gamers think that many updates necessarily equates to a buggy product. GalCiv, IMO, was pretty buggy out the door (with Bonus Pack installed)--a look at your "Bug List" thread is all that one needs to confirm that--and yeah, you might want to consider tightening that up for TPM, GalCiv 2 or whatever. However, I'm confident this level of support would have been there regardless. Many of the fixes you're doing aren't bug fixes per se, but rather, balance tweaks and
Thanks, Brad. :) ~SDC~
Also, could you please clarify the situation if you upgrade GalCiv standalone to Drengin.net? I have one more day to do it, and would really like to, for $20, but not if it cuts me out of support after a year where I would've gotten it otherwise. I'll be disappointed if nobody answers by then, because the full D.net price is just too much to pay when I already have the only game currently offered on it that I want. ~SDC~
Are you patched up? There were some issues with the main screen not -refreshing- at EoT (even though numbers were being updated in the background), but if you went into your domestic screen, you'd see the new numbers. I think they've all been fixed at this point though. ~SDC~
Well, I'd been looking for an excuse to go D.net anyways--and will, if anyone gets back to me on the one year limit on patches before the end of the month. ;) ~SDC~
I agree fully with Torinak's post. Hopefully, Brad will just print this list out and prioritize it for his interface team--it's a damned-near comprehensive account of all the UI problems. ~SDC~
My feelings on SDC are well-documented, but I've learned to live with it Strangelove-style. BTW, Brad, neither Refresh (F5) nor Tools | Refresh Application Data ever cause an update to show up for me. To date, I've always had to log out of SDC and log back in. Ctrl-P might do the trick, but it's undocumented, and is also a little disturbing; when you do Ctrl-P, it -looks- like it's wiped all the data for that product, and perhaps the product itself. It's not apparent that twiddling
So what is the scoop with patches for Drengin-purchased games vs. standalone purchased GalCiv? One of the SD folks originally said you'd only get patches for a year through D.net, which was kind of disturbing given that I'm used to installing games years later and grabbing whatever patches have come up (Diablo 2, for example, which is still patched periodically). Then someone else amended that to say if you bought the game standalone, that something would be worked out so that all GalCiv 1 pat
Pretty sure Ctrl-P just cleans out any current version info to force latest, but the latest it forced to was still .049. ~SDC~
Latest I see if 1.02.049, and yeah, I have pre-release turned on. Interestingly, SDC claims that it was updated 4/21, but that's not true--I downloaded 1.02.049 sometime back. ~SDC~
