I second that motion, Beta 3 now!!!! It's got fixes for at least 3 different crashes/hangs I've found so far, at least that's what I've heard from support when I've sent in dumps. Not that much concerned with MP, just want to find more bugs. Like to find bugs. pek
I don't know about adding to the pirate's asteroid defense, I've run into the case of almost 100 pirates in their lair, I wish I could get your pirate bases Is it just a case of an impending pirate raid that hadn't taken off yet? <br
I don't know about adding to the pirate's asteroid defense, I've run into the case of almost 100 pirates in their lair, they eat fleets that try to root out alive and leave a pile of bones at the entrance to the phase jump lane. I've been trying to figure out the logic, when I go into a new, uninhabited star system the pirate base has ~10 ships and it stays that way until I colonize all the planets/asteroids. When I go to clean them out, there's still 10 to 20. When you go to an established s
DFM, sorry, was upset about another game and took it out on you. The only game beta I've participated in on is GC2, working with Stardock is why I took this beta shot. I've been involved in commercial beta's, where they actually give you the beta to see if it solves your problem/business need. When you're talking about a large scale busines app there's a lot of things to test and as in any development project, the devs are too close to the product to see potential problems. You write the way
The whole idea of a beta is to have outside people play the game in it's current version to see what may break. And I think we've found a rew broken bits here and there (zooming on an enemy retreat) but the developers are trying out different things that they are under no obligation to keep in the gold version. They get to see if their code works and we get to play a game (well, we pay for it and hopefully we get to play what may be the game a little earlier than the proletariat). In reward w
I think just about any fight with a large-ish number of ships will do it. Make sure it's NOT at one of your planets. As I said on one of my other posts, if you zoom in to watch your enemies be destroyed, you will get the freeze/crash. It may be a matter of timing as they're beatin' feet, getting destroyed and zooming, but for me, it's pretty consistant. The enemy must be retreating. I also find once in a while that if I catch myself from zooming in, the game will stutter/pause just a bit wh
That looks like what I see. Cowardly enemy fleeing my righteous wrath and when I zoom to watch the carnage it freezes. The empire window doesn't seem to have an affect for me,. Altho I did have a freeze-on-load save game just now. Game saved about 5 min in. pek
I think we really, really need to be able to adjust priorities ourselves. Like I said before, I can't stand it when my ships go haring off after a colony ship or trade ship when they should be getting rid of the structures that MAKE the ships. Or flack ships that go after cap ships, they need to go after the fighter/bombers or maybe the robot ships, maybe. It would be nice to see who is after who on the diplo screen. It make it hard to tell when you hear the announcer say that an a
On the corrupted saves; It looks like when a save is loaded, the first thing painted is the wireframe phase jump lanes, then the planets and the rest. It could be something corrupted after the phase lanes and influence graphics get loaded because that is where I see a lot of freezes. Maybe that's 3 types of problems. I think I'm playing this game too much. pek
Oh, it seems to me that there are 2 different problems floating around (may be the same but with different symptoms): 1. A game and it's saves get corrupted and when you load the bad save it starts zoomed in and frozen, no ctd within my normal waiting time soI have to re-boot. 2. During a game, it freezes and ctd's after about 90 seconds(reminds me of the gc2 beta), but save games aren't corrupted and you can continue on from the last save. Looks like I'll have to turn autosave back o
I've run into this over 10 times this weekend, I submitted a ticket and have been sending the smartex dumps and the dr watson dumps when they happen. I've got corrupt game saves also, load it and it goes to the initial game start screen but it's frozen there. I've found if you wait it out (game in full screen mode) you'll get a ctd in about 90 seconds and your pc back. For me, it also wipes out my desktop background, for some reason. Smartex has an empty .dmp file and a short .cra, so I gues
Ah, I see, I think. I'm not sure why one would want to play a multiplayer game save as a single, that kind of defeats the purpose of multiplayer. Unless the AI plays a stronger game than some humans. Found the release notes, thanks. Does the explore REALLY do anything? Out of 5 planets I haven't found anything, yet. Seems like a waste of credits. pek
I think this is technical. When you start a game, you have to choose single/multi player. Then, if you want to load a saved game after you've chosen single player, the next screen has you choose single/multi player again. It's kind of redundant. Does this in both the older version of b2 and the 8/30 patch. Is there a bugfix/feature list for the patch, BTW? pek
I'll keep the thread going for the patch, I think I'm first with a comment (just started a game). It's nice to have a choice of flagships, What really threw me was the change of military/civilian research stations. That's really going to slow down development to save up for both. Or, slow down the intial land rush if you have to research infrastructure upgrades first. So far, my feelings are mixed. Being able to choose your insignia is cool. When I've finished a game I'll post so
As far as I can tell, you can't set a rally point in another system, I haven't been able to do it, anyway. So if you're cranking out ships in one system and your fleet is in another, you have to rally in the manufacturing system, then move them over to the new system, then highlight the entire group and "ctrl#" the lot. That said, a sugestion for the gold, let _us_ prioritize our AI's attack. When you have you fleet shootin' up the bad guy, have his warships wiped out but have those p
Haven't tried the rally point thing, yet. But, if the fleet is in another system you're hosed, at least in this beta. pek
I also notice that when a squad is destroyed, you can see them kind of pop back to where they came from to be regenerated. I know it's a new squad, but it appears like they are magically transported back to the structure that where they were made. pek
I usually do a "ctrl#" each time I add ships, never can remember "shift#", so my fleets are always in "order". Makes it easier to check cap ships and update them if I need to> pek
OK, I'll try. As I see things, if you double click on a fleet, the camera will try to follow the single ship that was selected (i.e., in a fleet of 5 ships, if you have fleet on "1", the first time you double tap "1" you will select the senior ship in the fleet, each time you hit "1" after that it will cycle the camera view through each ship). Now, if you zoom in close to follow the action, the view isn't confusing. but, if you zoom out, the motion doesn't scale down, the entire galaxy will m
OK, I see what the camera shake is. But. It's not the effect I was talking about. At any zoom level, the systems seems to crawl across the screen in little jerks. I figured out the slow crawl after you slected a fleet and then single left click on a system, the camera is still locked to the movement of the ship/fleet. When there's a few squads in teh selected fleet the movement the the planet/system can get really swoopy. On a real bug, I've found that if a planet had culture tranmi
I've had those set forever for GC & GC2, the beta doesn't use those settings, it uses it's own that you can't change, at least not on the beta. I've got the stardock & tgn directories on another drive. I see where GC & GC2 saves are in "My Documents\my games" but the beta doesn't use that directory for saves. The beta has it's saves in: "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\SavedGame" and I can't change that or the install directory:
OK, found the option, I'll see what it does. Does the camera shake off stop the sloooow crawl across the screen? I thought it was my mouse, my drivers, my eyes or my mind. Changed the first 2 and the last one but it didn't help, stuck with my eyes. Trying to concentrate with that slow crawl can be madening. pek
Oh yeah, major irritation for me, I wnat to be able to choose where the game installs and keeps its files. The beta scatters files across 2 directory trees from root (c:\). They should all be in stardock/totalgaming. pek
A couple of things I've found about way-points, I think they're bugs. 1. I had a game where I sent ships from system A to system B, one jump away, and they wanted to go via system Z. This happened in 3 connected systems, A to B went A to Z to B; and then to go from B to C, they went B to X to C. The direct systems made a line of about 80 degrees on the screen. 2. Can they make the waypoints so a ship only uses explored systems? I sent a slow little colony ship 2 jumps aw
