And if nothing else, could someone point me to a list of version changes? Oh, and did they ever do anything about the pesky minor races that have always been that one thing about the game that kept me from enjoying it fully? (Either in the base game or Altarian Prophecy, which I will strongly consider purchasing if it has any options regarding making the minor races play fairly.)

No, the last one has never surrendered, but I have seen games where everyone else did. And as for not trying to win the game.. Sometimes it's not advantageous to stay at war for very long.

I dislike it when the AI surrenders. I prefer having 5 majors around until one of them is actually defeated. As opposed to just giving up just because they find themselves at war with the most powerful race in the galaxy. I don't like it when people take the ball and go home, why would I enjoy it when the AI does it? Besides, what if I wasn't planning on conquering them? Maybe I just wanted to weaken them, or take one strategic objective.

Then we're in agreement. I think they should spawn with the ability to defend themselves somewhat (I like the idea of them starting off allied with someone so that they aren't fresh meat.) I just want higher end abilities (Insta-fleet-built) removed. I just can't abide AI cheating. No major race, player included, can compete militarily with an aggressive minor that can build Excaliburs at will. [Message Edited]

In my case, I chose the aforementioned silly way out. I really hope the minor's heroic research and industrial capacity is addressed. If you think about it, minors should be lucky enough to build a Battleship. Only the major spacefaring civilizations should have top of the line ships because only they should have the industrial capacity and raw materials to create them. Yet this minor race managed to create enough of the best ships in the game to ensure victory in any war again

I wouldn't mind late game minors getting some boosts, but one thing in particular needs the opposite. One of the game killers for me was when a 2 planet minor filled its orbit with EXCALIBURS. EXCALIBURS. 16 EXCALIBURS IN ORBIT. I DON'T THINK SO. My best most powerful planet in that game would have still been building them by the time the game was over if I tried something similar. That is blatant AI cheating. Minors should not be able to insta-produce the top end ship type. Or anything

Hmm, are you sure? IIRC, what happened was, I went very high up on the tech tree (Overlords) and finally I stole a tech (Forgot, naturally) from the Altarians, and it specifically stated that it was "ironic" that the person who developed the tech wouldn't have survived in an evil civilization. I took that to mean that if you became evil before you got this technology, you would not be able to acquire it without stealing it.

I hope at some point an option to turn off completely random events that have such a dramatic effect. If not, they should at least be turned into logically triggered events instead of being completely random. That's just.. bogus and evil as it is. :P [Message Edited]

[quote]I recently had a game that in one single turn, both The Fundamentists appeared flipping several Yor and Dregin planets and the Altarians had a revolution that formed a whole new empire. Needless to say the influence of the map really changed dramatically. Luckily I was good at the time. This kind stuff is what makes the game great. Never a dull moment.[/quote] What are these revolutions you speak of? Never heard of them..

My biggest problem in this game seems to be keeping maintenance costs down low enough so that I can keep spending and income levels high. Aside from the obvious (Build 0 upkeep buildings, don't build high cost high upkeep buildings if there are lower cost/upkeep projects that give an equal or similar bonus), how should I manage social projects? Also: Starbases and Modules don't require upkeep, do they? [Message Edited]

I would like to see on the Star System view screen some one click memory buttons for rally points. That way instead of erasing your rally point to the starbase, you just click a button to set it so that the next build stays in system, and it's just one more click to send things back to the rally point.

I haven't played much of GalCiv since my purchase, because I've been waiting for the minor races to be addressed. So, I'll just make the request myself: Would it be too much to implement some pre-game control over the minor races? Among them - Who can show up, (Particularly, disabling the Indep. League) minor race difficulty level, and minor race abilities (I.e., keeping them from building super planets with super fleets that devastate AIs on the lower difficulty levels.)
