There's nothing to put in any folders. You may have downloaded an old version as well as put those files in the wrong places (you should have at least seen new Yor). Given the last couple of posts, I guess people can't be bothered to read the latest messages, so just go here: http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/gc/index.php?h=1&pf=89 You'll get an installer/uninstaller that will put everything in the right places. After running the installer, you should know it's different right from

cool. nice work :)
Read the later messages. The link works fine.
Could you clarify? Which utility did you finish, the ship rotator or the library editor?
- "never depleting resources" -> expanding is quite pointless- "less micromanagement" -> skill is rather useless
I'm not going to sit around and defend every absurd point that some close-minded person makes -- hell, I'm still learning the game -- but the game is not getting rave reviews because all the most basic facets of gameplay are "useless" as you implausibly say. And I don't even have to mention it's that it seems to have a very enthusiastic FSOA, which has to carr
Yeah, that's a very a shallow evaluation and it seems to me that the tone of the comment given the limited content, points to someone who is predisposed to not liking it. But I'm guessing that's pretty obvious to everyone, so who cares? The game is actually quite interesting. So much less micromanagement than other RTS (which are usually too frantic for me) and much greater breadth of strategy available. The concept of borders is really well-done and makes you wonder why someone hasn
Seeing as Star Wars and Star Trek are being done (I'm sure somebody must be doing B5 as well) I'm not sure what I would do... maybe the Moo 2 ships???
I wouldn't be so optimisitic about all those things being checked off the list. I highly doubt that anybody is working on B5. Even though there was a whole thread on it, nobody in there seems interested in actually implementing it. As for trek, one thing you can say about that "universe" is that there are more than enoug
What do you mean multiple images files? You mean for animated ships?
Since his animations aren't all from the same perspective, i.e. they can't be rotated in 2d, I think he was saying that he'd like an option that would allow one to leave out the rotating part and just take 32 image files and stitch them together into a filmstip. But I don't think that's too important (even to him since he's already found his own way to do it quickly.) To be honest, I think both
huh? (or there must be some serious lag going on)
ah, I see. A close childhood friend of mine quit his investment banking job last year and moved out there. Apparently, he's now teaching yoga and loving life. Lucky him I guess. But I stand united with you on the whole pineapple issue, at least if it's cooked. It's the one thing that will make me throw up every time. Fresh pineapple is fine, but I prefer papaya and mango. Hmm, I think I'll shut up now before I devolve this thread into an even more bizarre discussion of tropical produce.
There's something to be said for the the Pineapple Programmer, sweet on the outside but tough to the core. ick, sometimes, I even annoy myself. but seriously, how could you leave the islands? Everything is so, uh, neon-colored and purty. And they have high speed internet now, right?
So, Thrull, what kind of ships are you working on?
very slick :) So, do you actually live in Hawaii?
I totally understand where you're coming from. I often have the same attitude. Ironically, before I moved my stuff to CDG, I had visited their forum a couple of times to check out some files that were advertised, but I never actually looked around or downloaded anything b/c I didn't want to deal with registration. In any case, it's not my site, so I really don't have any say in the matter. Desert Fox and Elucidus are the people you'd want to ask.
hehe, I actually posted this thread there first, and Cari suggested to post here also :) And there's also a sticked thread about the mod in the main forum. Thanks, though :d
If you're still having trouble figuring out the sprite format, here's one possible idea. Checkout the file SsBG.tga and startscreen.mtd. The first is a plain ol tga file of the startup screen, while the mtd file contains a portion of what appears to be that same image in the sprite format (which the program superimposes on the upper right corner of the screen after the movie is done playing.) And of course, you could just use a debugger and step through as mutil loads up the sprite an
If you meant the first interpretation (changing # of points available during game creation), there's a trainer (boo!) that someone wrote that lets you do just that. If that's what want, just do a search on trainer and imsdox, and you can probably find it pretty easily.
oh yeah, I agree with what Desert says. You should take him up on his offer and get away from geocities. No matter how good the web page is, once it goes through their crapifier, [shudder] [Message Edited]
I just checked out your ships and they look nice. The changing perspective was a bit strange at first (north and south being overhead while everything else being side perspective) but after moving them around for a while, I think it works. It will certainly allow you to build ships that are more easily differentiated, since a lot of trek ships seem to look similar from an overhead view. One thing that struck me is that something seems off when the ship is moving at 45'. At first, I t
Good ideas, Russell! I actually just noticed them right now. You would think I would have put a watch on a thread that I was trying to get response to, eh? A good deal of time has passed now, and there seems to be limited interest in this project. Which is fine of course, but I don't think I'm going to throw any more time at it in the near future. But I did copy those quotes, if you don't mind, in case things change and I work on it some more. I did wanna try Hawaii's new Galciv Wr
Just an FYI: There's a save game editor that someone put out (along with all the trainers and such) when the game first came out. The only thing it lets you edit are the leader/civ names and money.
One possible con to that trading strategy is that you're not getting the full value of what you're selling. The AI gives you more if you sell each item piecemeal as opposed to being bundled. Unless it values tech-tech trading differently than tech-money trading, you could probably get more bang for your buck by seeing how much they'd charge you for what you want, then selling stuff incrementally until you get to that figure.
I assumed it chooses randomly between the space files when it finishes playing a track. I can't confirm this though. I replaced most of the sounds in my mod, but from my eperiences, there seems to be quite a few that are never used. Morevoer, two of the ones that came with game seem to be corrupted. One interesting thing that Cari told me was that was that certain numbered sound effects correspond to different ship experience levels. For example, laser01 will play for level
Brad at one point posted something that said the AI's evaluation function changes when the lease is greater than 20 months,. It doesn't like to evaluate situtations further ahead than that. So for typical cases, the most profitable deals are 20 months and below. So the following is probably very obvious for a lot of people, but just in case you're new, this is what I typically do. (1) Move the time slider to 20 (don't set it numerically since that doesn't update the color of the text)
Nooo! There MUST be a way!
I think the magi man is right, if you do a earch on the entire directory tree, the string can only be found in the exe. If you're really desperate, you can probably change it with a hex editor to something of the same length, though that's not really worth it IMO. You'd have to change it any time a new update came out that changed the .exe
