OMG she is not kidding! Using M_util is like torture
I hear you! How can it have import and export buttons that don't work? You'd think that would be on the early list of critical to-do's. I shudder to think that if the artists wanted to modify one small graphic, they'd need to generate the entire library from scratch! Some of those things had oodles of components. Poor, poor Galciv artists :( btw, even the pared down Mutil was painful. If I hadn't automat

I just checked out your results document. Impressive sleuthing, Dark Rain! :) In terms of decoding the pixel data, I don't know if this matters, but I thought I'd mention it. All the graphics I've encoded into the pear format have included an alpha channel. Although I don't know how this is typically encoded, I couldn't see how it would fit in with the specs you have so far. btw, I don't think the alpha data is translated into a transparency value or anything like that, sinc
If you wanted to, you could wait until Cari feels comfortable posting those header files and probably avoid some of the work you're doing. Or better yet, if she could get the go ahead to post a few select functions from mutil, you'd be set ;)
mmm are you sure it's pear tree library? Its actualy a physical place so google isnt very helpful but I've gone through a lot of them and they dont seem to be computer related.
Oops, I don't know why I added the whole tree business. It was just pear library, which, btw, he says is the basis for Galactic Civilizations 3! Man, he really must be in the know ;) Here's the page I saw: http://www.ionet.net/~mduffy/Resume.html
The mtd and mdl formats are very
Thanks, Cari. I'll try that :)
Now that ships/sounds/music are pretty much done, I'd really like to add more story/dialogue content to the Star Wars mod. So, if you're non-technical and happen to enjoy the genre, you'd be perfect. And if you got technical skills to boot, yay for you and yay for the mod So, if you're wondering what kind of things you could write, here are a few categories: - The various text that the alien leaders send to the player. For example, the well-known "Your skin looks delicious. I
Check out the stickied thread titled "Ship Encoder Available" or something to that effect. It has the utility you'll need as well as some instructions.
There seems to be graphics for 11 of them, but I've only seen 4 in-game (6, 7, 8 and 10).
Are you adressing me? If so, I haven't used Sybase for anything.
You know being slow at reverse engineering is pretty fast from the perspective of people who don't do it at all. If you wanted to reverse engineer a format, I think the mtd files would be more useful, since there already a serviceable utility for mdl files. In short, I think mtd files are a more general format than the mdl files. Each mtd file, or library as they call it, can contain any number of four types of component "books": palettes, sprites, incl (?) and Tile (?). I'
the star wars mod and all included ships are safe.
Rad video tools is an excellent video encoding/conversion program. A LOT of games use its proprietary video format, called Bink, including Galactic Civilizations. It will also convert graphics, sounds, etc. Extremely useful and completely free. You don't necessarily need it to modify graphics, but you will if you want to change any of the games .bik files. If you want to edit events, techs, etc. you don't need it at all. Just follow the link that Desert Fox posted to get HawaiiFive
.ship files are text files that define the characteristics of a ship, like attack, hit points, name, description, etc, while .mdl files contain the graphics. So, you don't convert between them. You need them both. .bak files are just backup files
That has never happened to me. Nor has anyone reported that in the two star wars mod threads. I have heard of some general GalCiv sound problem, though I don't think it's very common. I'd try searching the forum for that. Hopefully if someone else has noticed this as a result of installing the mod, they will post here.
Can you be more specific?
As a matter fact, yes. He was my father. j/k. It's just similar to my name, so it's been a nickname from time to time.

Here's the new link. There are also forums there you can use to give feedback, ideas and hopefully participate in its future development. http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/gc/index.php?h=1&pf=89

Well, there's only one thing you're doing wrong, and that is posting without reading the last couple messages :) I know that the link doesn't work. Somebody offerred to host a forum for the mod, so I'm trying to transfer the files over, but they seem to be having problems setting up the account.
Sorry, I no longer have them. There are demoes you could download though. Or why don't you just use a real photo instead?
Or you could try any of the more popular first person shooters. There are trek skins for almost all of them. Posing them would be up to you of course. Elite Forces would probably be your best best ;) And of course there's Bridge Commander. Of if you want to get more goofy, you can install some Trek skins into The Sims. Kirk and Spock hanging out in a hottub. Yes, that would be a very scary event mod.
Yes, I know. I'm in the process of moving it to the cdg space. I'll post when it's taken care of.
I'm transferring that file to a different server.I plan to post when it's sorted out. btw, the music add-on is still there.
Thanks, Vridian :) btw, I've been told that ship names don't matter to the AI, and I think I've got something that may be a good temporary solution to race specific ships. Unfortunately, I don't know the "real" names of the ships. Here's a word document with all the ships in the mod. If someone who knows this stuff or is willing to find it, could fill in the real ship names or just list them in a reply or e-mail, that would be helpful. Or if you're interested in seeing what
