Whatever you choose, please hurry up and add it. It's definitely the most tactically annoying part of the game. When I get a new planet mid to late game, I pretty much can't develop it with out retarding everything else I was doing. I don't know if I'm playing optimally, but I do less percentage balancing and more choosing of when to overload one of the items b/c there's a lot of important things in that queue. Though it is still requires startegic choices, it doesn't seem analogou

I've been getting crashes all the time now with the slider. And it's not just with minor races. Is this a known problem? ~SDC~
OK, I'm just waiting on a response for JavaScout. Anybody have any suggestions on a place I can put it? ~SDC~
I don't think you're trolling at all. The arguments you're making seem reasonable, and I don't think are the least bit disrespectful. I think the fact that this game's AI doesn't get any advantages over the humans is an impressive claim. From what I've read, it sounds like your interest is to understanded it, not discrediting it. (Frankly, I think the guy who called you a troll, is actually trolling himself. Your comments seemed thoughtful, while his seemed so sudden off-base, tha
I choose creativity, b/c I find that it actually affects my real-life creativity. If I play a game without it, I can barely figure out a nice way to set the table. Fortunately, it only costs 1 point. As an added bonus, it may actually have some effect in the game! ~SDC~
I think this is a good example of when you should not feed the trolls. The first couple of responses showed how flaccid his arguments are, yet he rails on. ~SDC~
It won't be readable on 1 page. I found 4-pages is marginally good enough on a 600dpi laser printer, though the dark squares don't look good. Might be better in color, though I don't know. When in excel, do a print preview, click setup, and there's an option that lets you scale it to fit however many pages you want. You can then go back to preview and see if you like how it looks. ~SDC~
If anybody would like a PDA version of JavaScout's web page, let me know and I'll try to post it somewhere. Some navigation pages were added, the frame-like behavior was removed and there was some formatting changed to make it clearer on the small screen. I use it constantly and would have a hard time playing without it. This assumes of course that it's OK with JavaScout that I use it. (I emailed you about a week ago, but no response.) btw, I'm using a pocketpc which has 240x320 c
Yeah, I agree. The whole point of instant updating is so you can quickly find the exact maximum trade value. If it the minimum increment is too large, you can't do that. Even though you can manually enter the value you want, it doesn't update the color of the text. So, yeah, in that case, it is kinda useless. I'd really like to see a button that maximizes the amount for a given time frame, and perhaps the inverse too. And if that UI change is too much for right now, at least fix the minimu
To be clear, even though the button is not labelled correctly, it still seems to work, so I'm not sure why you'd need to put your game on hold. Also, the live updating does seem to marginally work if you don't manually enter any numbers and just click on the arrows. If you do enter a number, you have to close the dialog then reenter it. Not that any of this really matters, these guys will probably have an update up within the next 12 hours :) ~SDC~
I'm getting some buggy behavior on the negotiation screen now. - The leave button now say "String Not Found". It still works though. - The scroll bars in the money prompt are looking weird. Basically, the two arrows are at 25% and 75% rather than 0 and 100. I don't know if it did this before, but clicking and holding on the arrow does not make the money continually change, though single clicking does make it go up one. - If I manually enter a number after having use
Oops, my manual line wrapping seems to have made my post a little unreadable. Here it is again... How about a "Federal Subsidy" project that can be added to either the military or social queues. What's different about this project is that: (a) Upon completion, it generates an immediate discount that will ONLY be applied to that planet's maintenance costs. --> When added to the military queue, the rebate will only be applied to the maintenance cost of military-related

> mining can affect lots of different things, depends what you mine! really? I totally did not get this before. I thought it would have to do something with getting economic or production bonuses (somewhat like real mining.) I guess this means that you can "mine" abstract things like research bonuses. How very strange. And does this mean that if the base is not parked on a resource, all of the mining modules are useless? One other question, is there a difference between pre
> Resolution - You must have a good monitor The default resolution is 10XX x 7XX There's also a windowed version you get when you install the bonus pack that runs at 1280x?. The size if fixed there also and must be run in 16 bit color. > Tech tree - Over at the general discussion forum there should be a sticky thread that'll take you to JavaScout's website. Check that out. There's another tech tree that I think is a lot clearer. There's a link for it somewhere in th
I thought economy->money, manufacturing->ships/military, production->social upgrades, but I could be wrong. I'm not exactly sure what mining does. Influence all 3? ~SDC~
300+ messages with lack of quality threading and no search? What a surprise this place is a mess. In any case, sorry if this is a repeat post or I'm misinterpreting what I'm seeing in the game. Anyway... I started a game on a medium size map with my home planet in the bottom right corner. About six sectors around it were highlighted in blue, which I guess means they're mine. Anyway, I went back to the main and restarted another civilization. This time I was put in the middle of t
Then I must be overanalyzing. I've been checking everything almost every turn.
oops, "here were agreeable" = "he were agreeable"
There are various free utilities you can use to make perfect local versions of a site with java scripts and the like intact. I did it with javascout's excellent site (you rock) and put it on my PDA. It works great, though it would be a lot more efficient on the small screen if it didn't have the frames navigation. (btw, it's a pocketpc with a high-res screen, so I don't know if it would look clear enough to use on a Palm.) I'm thinking about modifying the navigation to make it more pda frie
"Throwing away our forum system is not an option. Sorry. " I guess this is the first poor decision I've seen these guys make. What a shame. If a year worth of updates is one of their selling points, it's too bad their forums have become a gigantic mess after only a month worth of posts. :CONGRAT: I, for one, would happily migrate to an off-world forum if it has enough traffic. Hopefully, they'll utilize the comments of their customers (for their updates) regardless of whe
I bought the game at a store basically just to get a paper manual. If anybody else is thinking along these lines, don't bother. Compared to manuals for Civ or Neverwinter nights, this thing is more of a pamphlet. I did know it was exactly the same as the online version, but I thought there would at least be a tech tree poster. Oh well. Anyway, here's my question. I love the fact that you allow the user to purchase and download the game online. Do your distributors/publishers make
How much time do you guys take to do all the actions you want in a turn? Obviously, you'll probably have to qualify your answer by what stage of the game, galaxy size, etc. The reason I ask is that the manual says a tiny map should take 2-3 hours max. I know I'm new to the game, but my games are taking way way longer. I just wanted to get a feel whether I'm spending too much time over-analyzing or over-optimizing.
Great idea??? No offense, but OBVIOUS IDEA. For such a polished game, this message board is amateurish. (The only explanation I can think of is that perhaps they're constrained by having to be compatible with their stardock stuff. Just a guess as I haven't used the program.)
