I did this on a whim, but I've had a lot of fun with it, so I thought I'd share. I just can't get enough of Darth Vader saying "I'm altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it further" on the negotiation screen. This mod replaces all the alien pictures, movies and music. btw, most of the races have different movies, and, in some cases, different sounds depending on your relations with them. There seems 2 or 3 different arguments going on here. Can we refocus on the original one? As I understood it he was asking about the variability of strategies, in terms of: a) human strategies that have a chance of succeeding at high difficulty level b) strategies that the AI uses (in general) c) the amount of strategy differences between the various AI races I understand how metaverse scores, cheese and nerfing can relate to these items, but I don't think t

Akuen, I think you're absolutely correct. I mean this entire thread is a bit silly. We're just listing all the basic features that 90% of the forums out there already have. All of these things are obvious. If they really need us to suggest this type of stuff, it speaks to how out of touch they are with the benefits of typical forum software. My guess is that that is not the case, and this thread is probably meant to placate people's forum complaints more than anything else. Anywa

Are the beta updates supposed to appear here on stardock in the software pane, just like normal updates? Am I just looking in the wrong place? btw, I bought the drengin upgrade a few weeks ago but just entered the serial now. It said the registration was OK. I tried restarting the application, refreshing application data, and just plain refresh. ~SDC~

What a coincidence. I was getting annoyed at how loud the Drengin negotiation music was relative to everything else. I was going to just decrease the volume, but one thing led to another, and I ended up making new star wars character movies and music for all the alien negotiation screen. Given what negotiation-like poses I could find in episodes 4-6, these are the races I was going to use: 1. Drengin - pure evil - Empire (Tarkin & Vader, Vader, and the Emperor) 2. Altarians

sorry the third item in the list was supposed to be "when patrolling a sector, if the ship sees an enemy vessel, it will NOT automatically move that turn allowing you to respond to the threat if necessary " ~SDC~

How about - a dotted line showing path from ship and it's destination in the main view - if you click a 2nd time on production/population toggle for the mini-map, it will show a number instead of colored circles - when patrolling a sector, if the ship sees an enemy vessel, it will automatically move that turn allowing you to respond to the threat if necessary ~SDC~

I don't mean to advertise somebody else's work in this thread, but since somebody already mentioned it... You can get Zah's tech tree to look extremely good on four pages. The difference is, though, that you get a lot more information you need: benefits provided, research cost, maintenance, alignment requirements, etc. Load up the excel spreadsheet and tell excel to fit to four pages at 600 dpi. Tape them together, fold in half and you're set. I don't even need to use Javascout's database a

I added several navigation pages, which are basically just lists corresponding to what you had on the navigation "frames" with an additional page that has all the research items alphabetically. Unless new techs are added or reclassified, I guess none of these pages would need to be changed. In terms of the individual pages, I'd assume that you could easily modify your scripts since all I really did was remove stuff. I deleted all the tables that did the site navigation and added some b

Well, this may be an anomaly (no pun intended), but I had a crashing bug that tech support said may be due to updating to 1.03 mid-game. For some reason, the variable for my government party got corrupted and it would cause a crash when the senate went to vote. Since I don't use any mods, she said that it may be due to the version change. Though I'm not convinced that's the reason (since she also said that there was not a file format change), I thought I'd mention it. ~SDC~

To make it load even faster, you can use something like HTTrack. It will make a completely local copy that will always load very quickly. Just make sure you have the settings right, so it doesn't overload the servers or seek outside files. That's how I put together the PDA version. ~SDC~

Popup, My palm IIIc is evidenly getting obsolete. btw, I know his site updated, but I don't think I'll do any changes. I did it semi-manually, so I just don't have the time right now, especially if I want to finish my current gciv game ;) If you know exactly which pages are changed though, that might be different. ~SDC~

This may be far fetched, but I'm guessing that you looked in the debug.err file and found something that said ddraw.dll. Is that what you mean when you say that it tells you to "dl directx?" If so, it's not asking you to do download anything. That particular file is a technical report that helps the programmers track down problems when the game crashes. The ddraw.dll line tells them that GalCiv called something in directDraw right before it crapped out (among other things.) What you can do

No, I looked. None of them had the pcx file. And none of the different stardock updates have it either. It sounds like a default thing, but my guess is that it's not the problem anyway. I've seen all sorts of more troublesome messages in those debug.err that don't cause crashes. Of course, I'm not exactly sure what they mean since I don't have the code, but they sound troublesome :) And I also tried adding a pcx file and that didn't help, though it did show up. ~SDC~

Yeah, I agree with you on how homogenous and fairly boring all the techs and upgrades are. I don't necessarily agree about the small map thing. If someones loses bad during the rush in a large map, sure the rest of the game can end up moot and monotonous. But if there is some parity, a larger map will give the players more time to develop stronger defenses and more ships. Once the size and developement of empires dominates individual statistical superiority, I think strategic/tactical decisi

I've been having a flurry of crashes recently. Every time I attacked someone and the senate goes to vote for war, it would crash to the desktop. I tried to play it w/o attacking, but it then crashed next time elections came up, so it's probably linked to that. I spent a couple of hours "searching" the board looking for a solution. There were a couple similar post in the bug thread, but no solutions or even a determination of what was wrong. Couple of notes: - Windows XP SP1 2.6ghz

These are the feature I'd find useful in order of importance. 7 and on are fairly minor: (1) Search (including body text, OR and AND conditions, can specify which subsections to search) (2) Several groups. The ones I'd like to see... General - Game Mechanics - AI - Announcements Strategies - General - Military - Alliance - Tech Metaverse - Clan X - Clan Y... Differences I've noticed: - Loads faster - All threads are in one really long lists which is still better than 113 pages on web version, though it doesn't seem like there are enough threads to constitute that many pages. - Posts within a thread are displayed at I think 100 per page, while the web seems to default at 25. - Going to a message that you've already visited but with new posts takes you to the first new post. I don't think the web version does this. - You can sor
