@ econundrum1: If I like CG3, would I like MOO2? (Taking the latter's presumably vastly dated graphics and UI into account). Thanks for your advice :)

Rome 2: Total War got released *at least* 6 months before it should have been and got totally destroyed by critics and fans alike. Actually, it really took them about a year to get it into a decent state. But I am confident the Beta 6 will be a long way advanced of Rome 's status at release time :)
And please, oh please, give us options to sort/filter planets/ships/etc [e digicons]:)[/e]
This. And cycle through shipyards (which despite the devs beliefs, you currently can't do).
Just went back and played GC2 after a long hiatus. Man, is it ugly compared to 3. In fact, I found I could barely go back to it. Everything looks so coarse. Even the UI is not so good and it's harder to physically see/find the info you want. The tech tree is ugly. Even the fonts are harder to read. And there are annoyances like the constant snapping-back to your colony (maybe you can change that though I don't know). So many strides have been made in the new design, e.g. idle
Really, I ask you to GREATLY IMPROVE THE AI. The game is well made, but it's going to be no fun if the AI is so dumb.
No doubt they are working on the AI as we speak
What does the grey 8-pointed (I think it is) star icon above a planet mean?
I hope they add the ability to cycle through shipyards - that is necessary IMHO
The truth is, if you could travel to the stars, you would have already colonized the viable planets in your solar system long ago...so the game having the option to colonize Mars is a bit eyebrow-raising :)
Agreed with OP.
- Planets list icons still disappear upon loading a saved game - Mining resources are still white on the map (except anti-matter) - makes playing espec. Iconians difficult ;) - The Yor have a Frigate after 26 turns - really? - Apparently my military power is #2 - yet I don't have any military ships! Yor have more than me yet they are 5th... - When I try to colonize a planet already taken by the AI I get the message "Fleet has no trade ships"... - CT
I'm also looking forward to an option to tell other races to stay out of my ZoC! That's how it was in GC2--Minor races could only settle or construct bases within the sector their homeworld was in.
Both of these ^
It's very annoying, isn't it? I think that minor races should only be able to build starbases x number of hexes away from their home planet. It seems silly that they can only have one planet, but can throw a starbase halfway across an Immense map.
Indeed. In fact, it seems strange in general that minor races can send constructors and survey vessels etc. to other star systems but
The AI also seems to cheat and is aware of the location of resources well beyond its own explored region of space.
This.
Frogboy how do you get the graphs to look that neat and well-defined? Mine look coarse and ugly compared to that.
Many thanks, Frogboy, for this fine introduction to some of the dymanics and details of the game. Two minor points: - please fix "infadel" > "infidel" in the diplomacy section of the game. I know it's only a typo but it's still a bit annoying :) - Also in Diplomacy: in the breakdown of why a civ has its current stance with you (e.g. you are weak, you are trading with us, we are on a war frenzy), could you please add up the balance of the plusses and minuses
Yup. Also, planet list pics either don't show up or disappear on reload.
Yes, can confirm this.
Thanks, Seilore. I loaded the game one auto-save turn from the CTD and proceeded from there. It hasn't crashed since. - Bug: planet icons disappear from the list of planets after loading a saved game - Colonies tab: 3 of the lists here are still wrong (i.e. showing the wrong output as per the column headers) - Memory optimisation c. 6% better compared to previous patch :)
...if they have the tech to go to other star systems (e.g. their constructors and survey vessels travel around the map) why don't they colonize these other systems?
Yup - can confirm the white mining resources (except anti-matter)
Many thanks, Stardock, for this new beta. Report : - Mining resources are now all white on the map (with the exception of anti-matter) - Sometimes when you adjust the sfx and ui sound, you get no difference (better than previously though when these sounds disappeared altogether after adjusting them) - I just had a CTD many turns into a new 0.83 game - I started with 5000 credits, not the 1000 used in earli
I'm getting about 56% of physical memory being used (with 16GB RAM) on "Gigantic" map size well into game with hundreds of colonies and ships present. With no other progs running in the Taskbar. I don't know how ppl with only 8GB will fare...
- Altarians declare war, but diplomacy screen has no model just a background
I've seen this exact same thing with several civs...
GalCiv3 takes up approx 40% of my 16GB, so your prob could be memory capacity?
I also have an i7. I AI-overclock my chip 4.3Ghz via the BIOS (just one option needs to be selected, there's no manual tuning). I have an inferior video card to you. But I have 16GB RAM. Maybe that's the difference, as I haven't noticed a memory leak (so far...) I also use an SSD for GalCiv. Are you running other memory-intensive programs in the background? Try disabling all non-essential programs and Windows Services.
Anyone know what difficulty level puts the AI on the "same" level as the human player? I.e. with no handicaps and anticipating most human tactics? Is it "normal" or "gifted"? I'm playing a game on "gifted" and finding it a totally different (and better) experience than when playing "normal". - Game pace seems to be slower and civs seem to build up slower (and so far their civ scores are much lower) - The Yor and Drengin have declared war on me and they actually pos
