on one of the only 3 player maps available that I could see.
Huh? There are over 2 dozen maps from small (1 star/20 planets, 1 to2 AI) to huge (6+ stars and over 150 planets with half a dozen AI or more). Plus the random maps. Plus the fact you can easily create your own maps to your taste. Methinks you might want to look at your options a bit more. ;)
Yeah I actually feel kind of stupid. I read the manual for the first time after I posted (while at a business meeting lol) and saw that its just their colony ship. I was going to say...for a "mother ship" it looked kind of small. xDThanks for the helpful replies though.
Well, it's not "just" their colony ship. It just has that ability. It's the same as the TEC Akkan Battlecruiser that you have which can also colonize. But it's big, it's bad and the Advent have differen
Just like traffic and roads. You and the AI can only travel from system to system via the phase lanes (roads). So look where they all might narrow down to just one or two planets before branching back out into your home planets.
Yes, it's getting more irritating with every game. And I don't think it's happening totally because of a rally point that wasn't reached by that ship. It seems to happen most with the last ship added to the fleet. Weird.
Yes, please. I hate the fact that so much stuff is going into my profile. That is just bad. Profiles can get corrupted so easy in Windows and besides that my C drive is just Windows and that's it. I install everything else on another partition and thus don't have a lot of free space on the C drive. Please allow us or show us how to move the mods directory and the save directory out of the user profile. XP here by the way.
Wow, that thing doesn't even have a hard drive and only a 7" screen and it runs Linux. I don't think you'd be able to run much of anything on it software wise.
That's all I play is single player and Sins is great for single player. Last two games I've played have been Medium random map which is just 1 star with around 20 planets or so and 3 AI's plus you. Normal speed for everything and it has taken me about 4-6 hours each one. I don't normally rush the AI so it could probably take shorter if you do. Also played with Easy AI. Now that I've got a handle on the game I'll be moving up the AI difficulty. I'm sure with the large maps w
In XP do the following: Right Click My Computer Choose Properties Click the Hardware tab Click Device Manager Click the plus sign in front of Display Adapters and it should show you what you have You can also right click your desktop and choose properties. On the settings tab it might also show your video card name there. But I'd do the above to get the most accurate. No idea in Vista but it may be similar.
Well, first the diplomacy in Sins is terrible, and second there are diplomacy models in a number of RTS's. The one that readily comes to mind is Rise of Nations. Anyway, it's simply important for people to know, IMO, that this IS an RTS. It owes a lot to Total Annihilation, a lot to Homeworld, and at best a tiny amount to anything turn based. People that don't enjoy RTS games are going to be disappointed, especially if they come in expecting something with the depth of a turn based game.
Turn off elevators and dust and turn off AA. It makes a world of difference in frame rates and you don't even notice them being gone.
Ummmm, I would say no. I don't think there is really any game you can play on just a 56k dialup anymore. Broadband would be assumed for any multiplayer game nowadays.
Yep, it happens a lot to me. What I have done to "fix" is to select just that ship and remove it from the fleet. It then jumps away but it always jumps back and rejoins the fleet and is fine from that point on. I *think* this is the cause: When you build a ship in a gravity well with a fleet it auto joins the fleet. But, if you also have a rally point for all ships in that gravity well it will want to fly to the rally point first and then it will fly to join up with the fleet. IF y
And you can of course build more Capital ship factories on other planets as well (same with Frigate factories). This is good to do on a border world that is a key jumping point to the enemy as you can replace losses much quicker then building everything at your capital planet 5 jumps away.
The 9800 Pro was *the* workhorse video card about 5 years ago and was *the* top of the line card in it's day. And it's still a pretty good card overall. I replaced mine when I got Oblivion a couple years ago with an ATI x800. I was barely at 25 fps and went up to 40+ with that pretty cheap upgrade. I can't really do that upgrade again since my MB is 4 years old and AGP only so I'll need to build a whole new system. Anyway, with the 9800 Pro you should be just fine. In fact I believ
Vista = suck That's your problem. ;) There is no reason to "upgrade" to Vista, stay and XP and be happy and stable. :D
Yes, NewEgg is the place to go. Just go to Video Cards and select AGP 8x and you'll get tons of hits. For example for $70 here is an ATI x1650 with 512 megs of RAM. Was top of the line just 2 years ago. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102073 I have the x800 series so this should kick my cards but and I'm running 1440x900 at high settings just fine. And a GeForce 7600GS 256 meg for $90 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8
A BTW question on Sins Do the space battles require a lot of frenetic clicking? If so I will probably not care for the game. The RTS part is okay but I prefer a game where you set up the right conditions (numbers, weapons, etc) and let the battle play out without having to compete with computer agility in movement, fire and aiming.
You don't have to lift a finger or do a thing in terms of the space battles if you don't want to. The AI will fight the ba
I'll still be playing. I'll probably burn out in 2-3 months and then it will just enter my rotation with Civ 4, GalCiv 2 and Oblivion. :)
Who needs to chase the fleet around. Just bomb the planets and colonize yourself so he can't recolonize. Once I figured this out it's all you need to do and makes quick work of games.
Huh. I have a similarly specced system (though Athlon / Nvidia), and I'm pretty sure framerates get far below 20 in big battles and large games. Maybe it's a processor issue then. Does anyone know if the game is optimised for SSE2?
Tonight I played the first time as the Advent and noticed a bit more slow down, probably due to the beam weapons. Still stayed above 20 and wasn't annoying to me. As I grow in the game and go to large
i only have a AGP 4X slot so i can't really upgrade it much
My ATI x800 is only an AGP. Both ATI and Nvidia did make AGP versions of a few of their cards just 1-2 years ago. Check out NewEgg and you can pick one up new for under $50-75 easy. It would be a great improvement over the FX card.
Only time I've had any stutter so far was a massive fleet vs. fleet battle with about 150 ships a side. Frames dropped to around 20 when zoomed in on that one. Otherwise my frames stay about 30 or so and don't stutter.
Should try ads in Podcasts like the PC Gamer podcast or 1UP. Talk about hitting your target audience. And they are usually very cheap.
Overall you'd be fine except that video card. It's very old. I have a 2.8 ghz P4 and 2 gigs of RAM (4 yr old PC) and I run at all high or highest effects at 1440x900. BUT I have more modern ATI x800. It is still 2 years old but can handle this game quite nicely and is fully DX9.
Acid, what you may not be getting is that just about any PC gamer that is into multiplayer games *already* has Teamspeak or Ventrilo installed and using it for several games. This isn't the console world where that isn't available.
