All I did was change the resolution in the options (1440x900 for me) and it's in widescreen for me. Am I missing something that I need to edit a text file?

I do this on *all* border planets. Works best if there is just one incoming phase lane. Assuming one incoming phase lane I'll build 3 hanger bays (4 bombers, 2 fighers) closer to the planet. Midrange at least 2, perhaps 3 overlapping repair bays. One phase jump inhibitor. Fill the rest in with gun platforms (usually 12+ since they are cheap). Usually a token force of ships. Perhaps 1 or 2 Kodiaks and 4 or so LRMs. This alone can hold off a pretty large fl
Usually the MP3 is up by late tuesday or wednesday. (It takes time for them to cut out the commercials) I'll make sure to post here and let folks know. Maybe you can link it in a front-page news item when the MP3 goes up.
Or just subscribe to the RSS feed and it will automatically download when available. ;)
Just to clarify that I'm patched up. New game tonight and saw it again when paused. I haven't seen it unpaused for the most part.
I kind of figured I was out of luck. I had no clue that a 5200 was "old". I installed it in my computer 10 months ago, specifically for the purpose of playing GC2 DA. (For which it works fine) I'm not going to upgrade at this time. In addion to the $40 for the game, I'm guessing I'd have to spend $100+ for the card. My "old" one was $70. I don't play computer games often enough to justify that kind of spending. Thanks for your help guys!<br/
Combat is the way to raise their level. I've got one cap ship at level 7 right now and 4 more at level 6. Just a small 1v1 map though.
I have very much enjoyed my latest game on a no pirate map. It was so nice to not have to worry about them and just concentrate on strategy vs. the AI. If there is ever an option/slider to control the amount or severity of the pirate raids I'll play on maps with pirates again. But again, thanks for providing a couple map options with no pirates.
I just saw this for the first time yesterday. Win XP all updates. ATI x800 vid card, latest ATI drivers. I think it happens when the game is paused. It's the only way I've replicated it. So if you pause the game and the scroll bar is present then scrolling makes things disappear. Unpause the game and it will still do that until you exit the game and reload. So long as you don't try to scroll while it's paused you are fine.
I'm running into the same thing and basically I micromanage the battle and try to keep my capitals from firing on their capitals. So I keep directing fire to the "blob" and take out as many as I can. If my capitals starting taking heavy damage then I'll try to take out a couple of theirs and then run myself (exactly what the AI does, turn tail and run once a couple capitals go down). :D
LOL. I'm playing against easy AI and finding that quite hard. I think I'll have lots of gameplay to go. :D
Well, that's a bad sign. A good RTS interface shouldn't take a few games to figure it out. At least not for a veteran of RTS and TBS games.
Well, I'm not an RTS guy at all, they always have confused me. Here is what I mean. The basic UI is very simple. Click the research button to do research. Click the Pirate/Black Market button to do that stuff. Point and click and zoom. All simple. The Empire tree is a bit getting used to, never played a gam
Wow, Geforce 4? I think that is what, 8 years old? Ouch. Basically you don't meet the minimum requirements so good luck is about all I can say. I'm surprised it runs at all to be frank. Good luck!
I heard it (2000) was highly prone to viruses, or something.
Not really. Win 2000 was about the most stable OS Microsoft ever came out with. Still very solid. Win XP was simply Win 2000 with a modified UI for the home market after the ME disaster. Besides, *every* Windows version is highly prone to viruses and stuff if you don't patch it and you are stupid and open attachments and stuff. ;)
And a few year old rig will run this game at highest settings no problem. I have a 4 year old P4 2.8ghz I do have 2 gigs of RAM. Video card is ATI x800 GTO 256 meg *AGP*. Couple generations behind obviously. I'm running at 1440x900 on my widescreen monitor and *all* settings are cranked up to their highest setting. Yes, the highest. So far I have had no slowdowns and FPS rarely drop below 25-30. It's just smooth. And I have had some pretty big multi fleet batt
I'm very suspicious about this game after watching the trailer. An RTS without a minimap?!? Zooming as compensation?!? So far I've never seen any RTS where this worked. Unlike GC2, SOSE is playing in a genre with extremely high competition. Games like Companies of Heroes, Dawn of War, C&C3, etc. offer excellent graphics combined with excellent overview at the same time through the mini map. Honestly, if the game can't be played without zooming then y
I haven't had much sleep in 3 days. This game is going to kill me and my old body. I can't game night after night to 3 am anymore! But I'm sure trying. :D
I don't have mine yet and I'm in Michigan. But I downloaded on Monday and have been playing nearly every night since. Have you not downloaded it yet?
Whats a podcast?
I've been listening to podcasts for about 4 years now. ;) PC Gamer also has a nice podcast and they have been pimping Sins for a couple weeks now. As for podcasts. If you are a tech geek, check out TWIT http://www.thisweekintech.com/ For Sci
I wasn't sure about Sins as I don't normally like RTS games. I don't like "click happy" games like that. Civ 4 and Gal Civ 2 are my staple with some Oblivion tossed in to take a break. But Sins just looked too good to pass up so I took a chance and got it. Wow have I not been disappointed. I am blown away how good this game is and how much fun I'm having playing it. It's heart pounding. I'm playing on normal and it's slow enough for me to keep up (you can play it on slow i
I've never played a campaign on any game I've ever owned including GalCiv2. I don't care for them at all. Just give me a great sandbox single player mode and that's all I need. I was worried for Sins being a multiplayer game but it has a deep and rich single player sandbox and I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to play GalCiv2 again. :HOT:
Doesn't matter how long it takes you, so long as you are having fun, right? :CONGRAT:
Pirates are easy to handle. Just raise the bounty of another player higher then yours. Very simple. Now that I know this I've only had one pirate attack against me and it was one that I actually allowed so that my capital ships could gain a couple extra goodies before I went after an AI controlled world. You will hear audio when the bounty on your head is highest, simply go to the pirate screen and pay more. Done deal.
Bump for the afternoon crowd since this is already on page 3. Just wanted to help people with older computers know all is not lost. :D
Slow? Are you guys kidding? I'm playing my first game on Normal speed and I can just barely keep up with everything and I only have 2 planets and about a dozen ships. It just feels frantic to me. But then I'm a turn based guy. Maybe I need to start a new game on Slow speed and it will feel better to me until I get used to this game.
I must say I am very impressed with the graphics quality on my "old" PC. The specs on the 4 year old PC: P4 2.8 ghz (single core of course, dual core didn't exist yet) 2 gigs of RAM (if anything i think this makes a big difference) Windows XP ATI x800 GTO 256 meg AGP* * Video card is an upgrade but still over 2 years old. Got it to play Oblivion. Running the game at 1440x900 on my widescreen LCD. Have all the graphic settings at high with
