Hmmm, let's see....one more try..... 1) You buy GalCiv. You have updates for GalCiv for the life of the product, period. 2) You buy GalCiv and *upgrade* to Drengin.net subscription. Now you not only get GalCiv but all other games for a year (or whatever). If you don't renew that then you no longer get all games offered on Drengin.net but guess what? You have a separate "subscription" (if you will) to GalCiv which gets you updates. 3) You just have a Drengin.net sub

Frogboy post: "Instead, when you buy Drengin.net you will continue to get updates to the individual games on there after your subscription expires. What you won't get are new games or games that are in beta." Toothy, how more clear can this statement be? If you don't understand it, please go back to basic English class. Please read along with me: After your Drengin.net sub expires, you still get updates on the games you purchased (such as GalCiv). However, after the sub expires you

Hmmm, if posting a score to the metaverse is your biggest problem then I'd say that really isn't a problem. Who really cares about scores in the metaverse for cying out loud, it's the game itself that matters. Geeezeee..... Troubleshooting tip: Sounds like you are on dial-up. Make sure you are connected to the Internet *before* you submit a game to the Metaverse. Sounds obvious I know but Frogboy has posted that the vast majority of problems with scores posting has been that. A

I think Frogboy made it pretty clear that you'll get GalCiv updates forever because you bought the game. The Drengin.net sub is good for 18 months (right now anyway) and will get you *all* the games available. If you renew, you get another years worth of new games. If not, you get no new games but continue to get updates for the games you already have.

Also, high taxes will cause population to go down. I remember from the docs that the population you see is actualy the *taxable" population, not the total. So if taxes are too high, the amount of people that can pay them goes down, thus a simulated population decline. Try lower taxes if you have them above 50% as a test for a few turns and see if that it.

I did an analysis once of moving from Republic to Democracy and found as Valamir did. Yes, I have to lower goverment spending % to now break even. However the amount of money going into research, military and social is greater. After that I quit looking at the spending % so much as what are the actual hard numbers that are being spent on the three.

No matter how hard I try, I can't get to good. Guess I have to force myself to take good choices no matter what. One evil choice and it seems like you are done for. Most my games seem to hover in the low neutral territory. I have no problems with my economy and have pretty decent relations with everyone (or can repair them easy enough). I went evil on purpose twice and got my butt kicked both times. Although the Dregin and Yor liked me and gave me free ships and stuff, the

Lock sliders would be awesome and I'll give a quick and easy example. I want research at 50%. Period. Have a checkbox to lock in research. Then I can change military and social all I want and research will not change. Same goes for mility and social. I lock in military at 30% I can then change the other two without military changing. As it stands now, if I want research at 50%, as soon as I change either military or social, research changes as well. Great sug

Had no problems with SDC. I just followed their easy to read FAQ on how to install it for Gal Civ and I was up and running in 5 minutes. If you can't follow the FAQ with handy dandy screen shots...well...then I feel sorry for you. ;p

I've had 2 CTD's since I got the game a couple weeks ago. I learned to set the autosave to every turn so that if it does happen, I don't lose a whole lot. The game is not slowed down one bit that I can tell by having autosave on every turn. Autosave is your friend! :)

Diplomacy is part of TBS games like this. SMAC (Sid Meijer's Alpha Centari) had a great diplomacy system. I like the way you could bribe other civs for their vote in upcoming elections. Every Civ game going back to Civ 1 over 10 years ago has diplomacy. MOO series, same thing. Diplomacy and back stabbing are part of the genre of strategy games.

I lease all the time. First thing I do in a new game: 1) Turn military and social spending to zero each, research at 100%. I do this for at least a year. 2) I immediately buy/lease 2 colony ships to go with the free one I get. I *might* get a 4th, depends what's going on. 3) This gets me at least 4-5 star systems going and a decent tech lead. May a beeline to impulse drive to move those colony ships out faster. 4) After about a year I typically even out to 30-40% milita

Funny, I have lots of productive former 13/14 planets in all the games I've played (large map). In fact, in my home sector there was one system with two 14 planets I have avoided. I just put a colony on one of them. Was I truely amazed at it's productivity since I have two fully decked out starbases and working on a thrid in that sector. Also did the same thing with a 13 size planet 2 secoros away on the border with the Torians. I needed to get influence going there so I colonized i

I just have a Battle Axe defending each star system and key starbases with 2 survey ships and a couple scouts running around and my rating is always above 100. Hardley a massing fleet. I rarely get squeezed for anything. If I do, I refuse, change production to a few offensive units and do some damage. Enough to get them to declare peace or else I'll take them out. One stratagy I've used recently if I don't actually want to take over the planents is to bound their defenses to nothing

I colonize class 13/14 planets all the time. There is a downside however: Morale. Especially mid game to near the end, morale is 1% on these planets when first claimed. I've had such planets join up with the I-League just a few turns after founding because of it. I've found if you are in such a situation, you'd need to rush built social projects to get it up to a 15 and then morale gets in line with your empire. So if you don't have the cash to rush build those and you are in the low moral
