Will there be multiplayer through Impulse for any of these games? I already own them, but have been unable get the multiplayer to work (at least for icewind dale, the only one we've tried) since upgrading to windows 7.
I doubt that any of the games will be updated with multiplayer through Impulse. Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale were originally released w
But isn't Windows' firewall basic and thus somewhat risky? I've never heard/read someone actually praise Windows Firewall!
No, it's very highly regarded with generally great reviews. Even the first one in XP is very good. It stops things coming in or out based on your configuration...what more do you need? ;) Windows Firewall with MS Security Essentials is all you need and MSSE is now considered
Built in Windows Firewall is all you need besides what would be on your router. If you have a firewall on your router why would you need to use windows firewall? I've never used a software firewall at all.
A software firewall will allow you to accept/reject outbound requests from software on your computer. Most (all?) routers with a hardware firewall are just stopping incoming requests.
I can see how scaling might sound like a good idea to developers on paper. How do we insure that the main quest remains at the intended difficulty for people who want to do every little sidequest? Why, have the enemies scale with the player so that endgame fights don't turn into curbstomps. In practice, there is no way this system can ever work. Since getting stronger has no real benefits to the player under this syste

First thing I'll say is that a few of the complaints about Oblivion in this thread (like level scaling, "console" UI and so forth were very easily fixed with mods of which there are thousands). I love the ES series. Played about 300 hours worth of Morrowind in the day and played at least that much with 3 full playthru's of Oblivion. I very much look forward to ES V. But for the love of Pete..... PLEASE NO STEAMWORKS!!! Don't make me miss my favorite game se

I've always loved the Sim City series and Sim City 2000 and 3000 were great games but to me (and many others) Sim City 4 went over the deep end with too much detail and too much complication and balance which just didn't make it fun anymore if you just wanted to do "causal" city building. Not that I don't want to "think" but I think the balance was good in say 3000 in terms that you controlled things like taxes, ordinances, needing schools and such but it didn't go overboard. So

Thanks for the feedback guys. I found the developers forums and here is what I found: 1) The original publisher went under so the stupid MMO aspect crashed and burned and a patch was released later that made trading better in single player. 2) However the new developer is about to release Cities XL 2011 in a week or two so really no sense in getting the original at this point, even for just $10 bucks (in my mind anyway). Hopefully 2011 version will be bette

So Cities XL is on sale for 10 bones and I loved the Sim City games (hated 4). This looks pretty cool but all the reviews I've read say that single player is actually pretty sad because the "trade" system is against you every step of the way. I don't want anything to do with online in a city building game. Did later patches correct this issue? And are you still required to be online all the time to play or just to register it?

I downloaded the demo and it seems like a lot of fun. Mostly mindless clickfest killing things but there is certainly a time and a place for that type of game. I'll be picking it up this weekend for sure.

Lot's of negative posts over at CivFantics. Mostly gameplay stuff and the "dumbing down" of the game. Plenty of crashes too though. Not a smooth launch at all.

Totally agree with the original post. Just basic turn mechanics need to be improved in this way. So frustrating to have to tab thru units I wanted fortified or sentried...I put them that way so I *don't* have to deal with them anymore. I sentry a guy on a mountain pass and only want to deal with him if an opponent passes near. Hopefully things like this will make it into the upcoming UI updates.
We can't. They're not ours to sell. In the end though, there will be an expansion pack's level of content all free for the price of a $10 book. Random House has done something really interesting here, it'll be interesting to see how it works out for them.
Cool. I was going to pick up the book eventually anyway but if it comes with a ton of free content as well I'll go get it. So I assume one can get t

I'm having a hard time telling what faction is what in games. Their "culture boundary" is all the same...yellow. And when you hover over a unit or city all I see is the faction coat of arms and not the name (unless I'm missing something) so I don't know quickly which faction I'm talking too. In my most recent game I declared war on what I thought was my main enemy but ended up being a minor civ. In most civ type games, including GalCiv it was really easy to tell on

Just an FYI that I didn't get a shipping email (I pre-orderd over a year ago) so I contacted support just to find out if I should be getting an email or not and got an email back today saying that my box had indeed shipped. And come to find out my box arrived today and had actually shipped last Tuesday in the first batches. So it took almost a week to get it so they should start arriving to everyone pretty soon I'd think.

We have verified with AMD that the pre-July cards had a memory issue." I think the latest drivers are 10.7, which I have, so I'm hoping all will be OK. ATI update their drivers so often with hotifxes etc, it's hard to keep track! This is why I never buy ATI. Grea

If there are any bugs you can expect them to be fixed quickly. Stardock is not above releasing a few small patches in the first couple weeks of a release. One only need to look at their history to see this so no worries. If you aren't quite sure you'll actually like the game a demo will come out shortly after release, probably a month or so and you can try that first.
