Just wanted to encourage

On this Memorial Day, I'd love to encourage you to join me in both remembering the veterans who served in the Iraq war, the Gulf war, Vietnam and all the other wars that we in the US have been involved with. These soldiers gave of their time and sometimes their lives to serve this country. If you can, take some time to give thanks to the various people who served in Korea, Vietnam, and etc. Why did I say people and not soldiers? Simple. Soldiers were not the only ones to have gone t
Are you using espionage? If so, you may want to see if anyone is attempting destabilization. In my current game, the Arceans were doing just that and wrecking havack on the Altairan. It is likely that I was targeted but thankfully I have been building cultural resist projects.
So, the key is to have a mix strategy. Keep destabilize on low for the long term. On occaision, hit the enemy with a massive strike for a short duration. After a few turns of this reverse back to low destabilization. I'm guessing that short term is roughly 3 to 5 turns. Is the above correct?
What kind of victory condition are you trying for? Culture? Tech? Trade? Alliance? There are different set of strategies for each one. As for setting the AIs on neutrals, I'd be surprised if that works. Neutral can be best defined as, "Gee, what do I think of you, right now?" It really does not mean that the AI won't bother you. You could try setting the AIs on "pure good" and they'll behave in general. Be aware that you can tailor the game to shoot for a specific victor
In my current game, I am managing to use destabilization to wreck havoc on the Yor and the Arcean. In my case, I didn't jack up the amount since like others, I never saw any results in the first few turns of doing it. However, in this game, I had a situation where some subtle destabilization was needed. The galaxy was gigantic and the levels for the AIs were set to normal. During the course of the game, the Yor got an event that raised all uninhabited planets in sectors near one o
Thanks for the info. Some of my planets are working on Soil and now I see that I'll be getting a nice surprise. :)
First, I'm glad to see that PQ does not jack up an initial planet quality up 2pts. This does make for better game balance. Still, I have one question. What does the new PQ do? I found a planet rated 17 and colonized it and still the planet is a 17. Just like to know what the new PQ does.
From the sound of it, mayhaps they should be introduced via the "Spaceballs" soundtrack. That is, with a slight modification. :-)
:) It took me awhile but managed to do pretty well for the one game that I sent to the Metaverse. FYI, it was in a gigantic galaxy with the settings at normal.
Cool! One question though, what is in the "Expansion Pack"?
As it is, I haven't played with them and was looking forward to it. Dreads, you say? Didn't know those things were that powerful. Perhaps the event is waiting for someone to build a couple of Dreadnoughts.
I believe I have everyone at Intelligence (Normal). It has been quite some time ago 'ere I set this game up.
I am playing in a gigantic galaxy and have been playing this game for a while. Where are the space monsters that I've heard about? They haven't shown up and the Dregini are gone and the Yor are on their way out with the Arceans close behind. Just me, the Torians and the Altarians are the primary players. The other two do have an alliance and I'm trying to join it or get a tech victory. So, where are the sharks? I actually want to get a look at them before wiping them out with Battle H
Actually, I'm surprised those ships in orbit can't fire at the surrounding scout ships. While the orbiting ship's effectiveness should be reduce, it still should not be prevented from firing at attacking ships surrounding a planet.
I happen to LOVE battlehammers. In fact, I used to send a fleet of them to take on more powerful ships. Of course, I'd make a ton of them, due to their then cheap price tag. Until I came across this thread, I didn't know that they were that powerful or that they were supposed to only be defensive in nature. FYI, I'm more familiar with the OS/2 version of GalCiv then the current one.
Thanks for the correction, Duodecimal :) It has been a long time since I saw the movie. It was a great line from Ricardo Montalban. :) FYI, He is the guy who played Khan.
I like the idea of more alien races. To be more precise, I would love to play with up to 10 MAJOR alien races at once. :) Yes, players should have the option as they do now, to choose the # of races. Playing with 10 races in a gigantic galaxy should be something.
In ST: Wrath of Khan, Chekov and company were checking out a system and thought they were on Ceti Alpha V. That is, until they ran into Khan. Khan scolded him by saying, "This is Ceti Alpha VI". The planet was at a minimal hospitable to humans. Actually, it is only in a sci fi movie that you'd call that place "hospitable". I don't think Paramount would sue for that line. It would be totally ludicrous.
It is sounding like we're asking the AI to have the complexity of a human mind. This not very likely to happen. The best would be for the devs to pull off some kind of illusion of human intelligence. As for proposing own initiatives, I was thinking of pulling from a list. Still I do agree that this thing would be RIPE for abuse. In fact, I would be very surprise if the AI didn't give the player a taste of his/her own medicine. This logic comes from the fact that I'd look for a way t
I'd vote for once a year in a huge to gigantic galaxy. I like the idea of categorizing the resolutions into two groups and the one group (minor issues) be done once a year; except for the fourth (which is slated for major issue). It would also be nice if I can get a sense on how a potential ally will vote so as to either vote in tandem or suade them to vote your way. Another item that I'd love to see added to the UFP event is the ability to propose your own resolution. I believe that
Here is a pearl of wisdom for you. Patience, patience, patience and did I say patience. :) GalCiv is a strategy game and requires a lot of thought and planning; as opposed to fast reflexes ala FPS type games. FPS = First Person Shooter. Take the time to plan what you want to do and be patience and you'll get there. This is quite evidence when playing the gigantic galaxy. Again, be patience and plan your move. Just don't react but act.
I like corners and I play on those G maps. Basically, it is less ways for my enemies to attack me and easier to defend; as opposed to starting from the central position. Of course, that position does have its advantages and disadvantages. A quick way to colonize? Take a look at the minimap, it tells you the location of the various stars. If your sector has some stars, take them first and try to get a couple of scouts to check out the adjoining sectors. You can and should do the same w
So that is why I got those extra colony ship. I can tell you the circumstances for it. It did not occur before my current game and it is only because of threads like this that I became aware of the oddity. In my current game, I picked PQ (for 9pts) and Morale and Earth was rated a 19 (not counting the 2pts added to PQ). Other than this, I am playing in my usual Gigantic galaxy with a tight configuration and normal intelligence. Yes, I am using auto launch to quickly get tho
That would be useful. Of course, it would tip off the Arceans to my helping their enemies. :-)
