That is my concern, too. Hence my posting the question. I'm sure my system could handle it, IF I play it light. That is, I don't have so many opponents and stay away from Gigantic galaxies. I'll just hold off until I can upgrade my system.

I'm loving everything that I've read on GalCiv II. My system is an Athlon 1GHz CPU with 512MB of RAM and a RADEON 7000 video card with 64MB of video RAM. I'm running tXP with latest service pack.. How will the game perform on my system?
:-) It is a good thing that I have broadband! Dialup users do have my sympathy.
I downloaded the new version of GalCiv Writer. I wanted to see what I could create, as it relates to Political Parties. It seems after installing and then clicking on the desktop icon, I get an error message. I've no ideas of what is going on. The error message reads: GalCivWriter.ex - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application. Any ideas of what I'm missing. I'm playing with the lat
If you're getting 5 on Large - Rare - Tight, then I'm likely to get a couple more. I'll give it a shot.
I'm playing the latest version of GalCiv with the Altairan Prophecy. The setting is "Normal" and am playing with ALL the civs. It used to be, I'd manage to get about 20 to 40 colonies before I ran into someone. Now, I frequently bump into a civ way before I'd want to deal with them. Now, I get about 5 planes before running into a civ. I know that I need to change my strategy but to what? I'm used to playing with 5 other civs and getting 20+ planets on a GIGANTIC map. <
A huge black hole of time is a very apt description! I used to play it while in college. Got tired of people only wanting to play evil characters. My time is now divided between church, work and some occaisional strategy games like Civ 3 & GalCiv.
As well spoken as you appeared, I thought you were. :)
Icho, I downloaded your Omega Pack. Read the details for your Patrol party. You'll want to clean up the grammars. Otherwise, nice party. Just wish I could scroll down to see the rest of the stats.
It is Torian Vengence. The Altairan are on your side.
I have been reading a lot about this software and would love to try it out. I know the Diplomats are the current caretakers of CalCiv Writer; however I can't find where to get a copy of the program. Can someone please point me to where I can find it? Thanks!
From a practical standpoint, it would have been nice if a similar event had been added. Only in this case, a good choice would get the PQ bonus and evil get the penalty. Then one would hope to get that event, if they're planning on a good empire. I used to not kill the worm and thought that I'd see some eventual benefits; however none came. Since I play long games, I just kill them if I think my PQ will go up substantially. In these games, I still get to keep my good morality because
Let me see, if I understand you. You created a map that gives the Human player, multiple planets to start with. If this is the case, it would make sense for the game to see these extra planets as colonies; hence the movie. After all, you're supposed to start with one planet in a normal game.
Gunner243, No you're not. That was another headache I was having with the editor. Apparently, you're supposed to use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out; except that it doesn't work in my case. :( I was told by Cari that the person who works on the editor will be working on the problem. :)
Being patience is the real key to any victory. This is especially true when playing in a gigantic universe. Right now, I'm playing with all the civs in GalCiv's AP and it should be interesting. Don't rush to conclusions in the early games. I've have started behind in some of my games in tech, military and economics and only to pull ahead to victory. In one game, the Arcean (neutral) were dominating in everything. I was just not able to win via military or alliance. However, I notic
Weyrleader, Thanks. I already talked to Cari. The version is the latest one posted on SDC - 1.05.06 Other than this, I actually enjoy the game. It will be great to make my own custom map, when this get dealt with.
He may be referring to the help files located in the /docs folder. When viewing the help file for the Map Editor, I could not call it up from within the editor. Instead, I had to go looking for it. The error message I received was basically, "Can't locate gcedit.doc in expected directory." Turns out that it was expecting the file to be in the main game folder and not the docs folder.
I just loaded the Map Editor and according to app, it is GCEditor v 1.0 I didn't see a 1.50.006. Does this thing generate an error report? I can send it to you.
I downloaded my copy of Altairan Prophecy on Tuesday (6/15) and was looking forward to looking at the Map Editor ( along with other items). 1. I went to the Help menu to look up how to use the editor. It could not find the help file for the editor. It turns out that it was looking in the wrong director. Found it by looking in my C:. 2. I couldn't place a single star on the map. Nothing appear to happen. After a bit, the screen would seem to hang and then I get a message abo
The game went gold on 6/3. I imagine that it will be available in a week or two. It takes time to make those CDs. As for downloading AP, I am guessing that it will be around the same time.
I came across the same problem, in an earlier game. Somehow, I managed to insult the Altairans and have yet to meet them. Met the Dregins, though. I chuckled and made note of this on one of the forums here. It definitely taught me one of the hidden value of espionage. Just would have been better to have met the Altairans, first and had a turn or to before that insult event. Yes the event was annoying but then this is supposed to be a game played for fun. ;)
I'm probably missing it, but where is the Logistics ability? I looked on Java Scout to find out what tech to research but no go. It is not in the list of Abilities that I can use to customize my civ. As I'm writing this, I have the feeling that Logistics is built in to the game, right?
I'd love to have the AI take over running my empire and see what it does with my settings. :) I saw in another thread, someone asking for a cheat to enable ALL the races to finish off the Tech tree; except for Final Frontier. It should be an interesting game if this cheat is enabled; especially at the start of a new game. :)
Same here!!! :-)
That would explain much of what I was seeing. I'll play around and see where it takes me. As I said earlier, these cheat keys can be used to create some wild scenarios. :-)
