Bobo think mayne Sigma not say words right and mean only RTS sucsessful?
Okay, allow me to correct myself: All applications (games or otherwise), in one way or another, have flaws. This included blockbusters like Half-Life, Operation Flashpoint, Total Annihilation, Microsoft Office, Diablo, Master of Orion II, and Galactic Civilizations. The successful applications, in one way or another, manage to snare a large quantity of users. In case of both Starcraft and T
#78 by Citizen Ellestar - 5/23/2003 2:00:59 PM In RTS there is only one such game - StarCraft. And Blizzard was just lucky...
That is not quite true. Starcraft has been reported to have its own skill-based game balance issues, such as the Zergling rush. This requires every player to make preparations for an early game assault, which can be quite difficult if you've only started to play the game recently. (As an aside, the zergling rush isn't as powerful as rum

Also, how is your economy sliders set as? The default of 33-33-34 doesn't cut it - there are more optimal combinations such as 45-15-40. You also want to take a look at the tax rate to see if it can be improved.

The space sharks were quite a problem in the early game, because they were effectivly invulnerable. This would result in paralysis for the entire galaxy, which isn't very good or playable (and trust me, this event should not be cataclysmic.) However, I am in support of making them more powerful each time they appear (e.g. +5-10% weapons, defence and/or hitpoints each time they are deployed). They might eventually be invincible, but it would take a long time to occurr.

I find that I prefer a fully scattered map. It feels more realistic, as the stars in the galaxy are evenly divided as opposed to being lumped info a few groupings. Besides, it reduces the probability of a poor start on the larger maps.

I've peeked into Galciv.exe, and it seems that its grabbing a default string as opposed to accusing another race of being too powerful like it was planning on doing. I'd like to see the conditions that would have caused that, though. (Oh, and "Hi" shouldn't be capitalized either.)

I disagree. The teenagers of your civilization, although know that such products are banned during warfare, still manage to get their hands on Torian blood larva to spice up their sponge cake. Never underestimage the power of the black market fufilling a strong demand. Besides, just because a war is going on doesn't mean your citizens aren't desiring the Altarian's virtous lifestyle.

Also, you could try scrapping buildings or ships. IIRC, you need to be in the details portion of the planet display to scrap them.
then, it happend. at least 25 dreadnaughts swarmed in, while my best ship was still a battle cruiser. i was destroyed in 3 minutes. are the dread lords unstoppable?
They are powerful, especially if they appear at the beginning of the game. They are only a minor race beacuse the engine treats anything not in the six standard races to be minor. There is a way to stop them after they have been deployed. If you can build three or more starbases with maxed out milit

Found an interesting oddity. The Yor sent a message: "Greetings, Human. We just wanted to say Hi." The default reply (the one that appears in green at the bottom panel): "How can I put this delicately? You're probably doomed." I'm blinking in awe from the non-sequitor reply...

I'm not sure, but the Boldface and Underline icons dont work in Mozilla. I'd appreciate if there were understandable instructions to do it manually. Same with the "Quote" button". Doesn't work either. You can get Mozilla at http://www.mozilla.org/ In my opinion (as well as others), it's a solid browser in its current state.

Want a trainer? Use the one included in GalCiv itself by setting the AI level to Fool. They won't even be able to harm you. Alternativly, get a text editor to modify the files in the GalCiv\data directory. Set the AI to Pure Evil, and give the Good event options a ridiculous bonus. Want to instantly conquer planets with minimal effort? Use the second trainer to add a new invasion option "Insta-Capture", costing 1 BC, and giving +2000% Attack advantage, but prevent the AI fro

Espionage can counter Destabilization, as well as either reduce or negate the effects of some cataclysmic random events. I don't have positive proof on counter destabilization, but there are text strings found in "English.str" that suggest this possibility.

I used to build them a lot, based on the fact that they were, in some cases, better than battleships. Now, they are a scaled-down verstion of a battleship, laying right between "Frigate" and "Battleship" on the scale. They are faster to produce, but don't have the firepower a full scale battleship has. In general, battleships are good for attacking. However, Battle Hammers still more suited for defence...

#14: Follow the http://www.microsoft.com/games/riseofnations/trialdownload.asp and download the trial version. Unless you are on a 56k connection, you should be able to download it in the background within 20-30 minutes. At that point, you can determine if it is different or not. Even though the RTS market is saturated mostly by "click-fests", there are a few gems that can be found when you dig deep enough. Very few appear in the mainstream market, meaning that you will have to try to

#3: Only "Information warfare" is buggy. The other available tactics do not affect the defending+attacking population, which eliminate those as potential culprits. It doesn't mean that there might be other bugs attached with them (e.g. Not updating the money display immediatly after the attack...)

From what I can see, it doesn't amplify the nearby system's influence that much. However, the starbase itself provides quite a powerful influence that can capture rival star systems in adjecent sectors. For the math, the current sector's influcene is calculated with a base value, adding the nerby influence centers, and adding the starbase cultural bonuses. The base value appears to carry over from turn-to-turn, which will allow the starbases to provide a "small" bonus to nearby syste

If you are really having trouble with morale, start building Transports or Colony ships. People within those ships are not on the planet, thus freeing up housing on the planet to keep the citizens happy. If you let the planets over-populate, your approval rating will drop. Don't worry about the approval rating dropping to 54 - it should be enough for you in a republican government. The AI players don't cheat at "Normal" - if you want to see how well the player performs, t

Also, there are rumours that if you keep offering ridiculous trades (e.g. ones that have the text in yellow), the AI wil like you less. You're welcome to try, anyway. ;) Oh, and for #8: Don't. Given that morale jumps up and down and sidways, automatically adjusting the tax rate based on morale is a bad idea. Why? If it is too high, you won't get maximum efficiency from it (and have a low morale.) If it is too low, your economy will suffer forcing you to raise it (and thus reducin

You are allowed to pay as much tribute as demanded, even if you end-up bankrupting yourself. However, you really should consider strengthining your empire and fighting back instead of driving yourself into bankruptcy. For now, Anti-Matter missles are nice. You can demand more than what the other civ has. You can do so by manually typing in the amount of whatever for howlong.

The linear multiplier, as well as a square-root multiplier, takes into account missles. Missles have 1HP, 100 attack, and 0 def. Their rating is 100. As a comparison: Linear Multiplier: Starfighters - 5HP, 2att, 1 def = 3*5=15 Corvettes - 12HP, 3att, 2def = 5*12 = 60 Battleaxe - 40HP, 2att, 5 def = 7*40 = 280 BattleShip - 40HP, 9att, 4 def = 13*40 = 520 Dreadnought - 50HP, 12att, 5def = 17*50 = 850 Square-root multiplier: Starfighters - 5HP, 2
