Well, there's one thing that seems to be new. I might be wrong, since there is a change it was included in a previous release.. In the IRC chat lines, you can right-click on the list of users to get a pop-up menu. In any case, I'm proposing a contest involving SDC. Whoever can get the largest cascade of said pop-menus before their system crashes wins.
It works in IE, not in my version of Mozilla. It automatically puts HTML markup around your quote, then sticks it in the message window (the thing you use to hack out your message).
It's a problem with browser interoperability. JavaScript has so many varients that it's next to impossible to find a universal solution. That's why JavaScript usually detects which browser is running, and uses a different route depending which browser is detected. Som
Oops, forgot to mention in my previous posting: You can manually edit the playlist (or at least do so last time I checked) to include the non-MP3 files. It should play anything that the background media player could run. Don't have the exact list handy, but it's a nice thing to know. (Though for some reason, Windows Media Player didn't recognize the playlist. Strange...)
Most of the time, the crash seem to occurr within a short time of exiting the program normally through the "Quit Game" in the Galciv Menu. I don't get this as much anymore since I've discovered the joys of Windowed mode with the latest version. Killing the game while Bink is running has a different effect - prevents GalCiv from starting up again until the computer is reset. In some cases, it seems to do collateral damage by preventing the system from shutting down normally. <br
What difficulty setting are you talking about? Do they always do this or only on Increadible, where they get tahet huge PQ bonus?
The bonus was based on Taxes, not Planet Quality. :) Besides, it was a Genius AI, and its location implied that it was attempting to extend its reach.
This forum seems hard to use. Is there a way to set user prefs? I'd like to mark all threads read when exiting, then display only those threads with new posts on my next visit -- standard BBS stuff, but I can't seem to find anyplace to set viewing options.
Not really. The next best thing is Stardock central, where it at least seems to keep track of which ones are new or not. [Message Edited]
Fool AIs get a -56% to taxes. Beginner AIs get a -46% to taxes. Sub-Normal AIs get -24%. Normal AIs get -18%. Bright AIs get -10%. Intelligent AIs get normal tax rate. Genius AIs get +5% to taxes. Incredible get +40%. Of course, based on what I see here at http://www.galciv.com/faq/faq.html , there might be a typo in the AI tax adjustment code that gives a major bonus to the AI players. Instead of the percentages shown above, the taxes could instea
I think it also happens if you don't pay the ship maintenance fees.
Maintenance fees are mandatory, and cannot be skimmped on under any circumstance. Otherwise, your fleet could disappear overnight just because you had a bad economy.
Could it also be happening because Bsic Repair has not been researched?
Basic repair just affects how quickly your ships/bases return to full health. There are ways to get the repair ability through anomalie
Somebody else noticed that the Yor go now for the PQ14 planets to colonize
Not just the Yor - I've seen the Drengin do the same thing. It looked like the Drengin were attempting to "extend" their range onto one of my flanks.
#49 by Citizen Twirlip - 6/2/2003 1:33:30 PM Sigma 7 -- Try it. You can type in any number you choose, but it'll reset to 0 for 0 unless this has changed recently.
Yeah, just noticed that. But in any case, the limitation does provide an exact insight of the economy of the other player, regardless of espionage level. This is a minor issue that should be looked at anyway, especially since the AI doesn't have this insight. Now,
Is there a way to launch empty transports?
No, but you can aim for 1M people in a transport. Set the slider to 0M, and click on the right arrow. From here, you can launch the 1M into space. (Also useful for building transports at small planets, and filling them at the planets with larger populations.)
I read somewhere (I think it was Gamespot's review) that the new pack would allow you to import MP3 spots so you could listen to your own music while playing. Is this possible? And how is it done?
Just plop all music files into the "PlayList" directory found in Galciv. A default playlist will automatically be created for you. Note that there is a bug that prevents it from adding .MID files to the playlist - the only thing it adds are those silly MP3s.
I did see somthing in the Event file stating there there is a Morality Weight. It could be that event in particular has a higher morality weight for the Evil option than most other events.
Give a couple of levels of modifications: Low: Research cost ranges from 90% to 110% of original. Medium: 75% to 125%. High: 50% to 150%. Personally, I wouldn't recommend anything larger. It runs the risk of giving away a "free lunch" of Excaliburs.
On tribute, the human player isn't even allowed to *ask* for that much money upfront for anything
Actually, yes. Just manually type in the number. As an alternative, do 500 for 2 months instead of 1000 for 0 months.
So it's like a killer brutal minor race suddenly pops up, or what?
Yep. You do get some warning before they appear, though. ;)
The Dark Arnor is a linked series of events that always occurs at an AI system. The first tells you that an alien cult found an artifact, and one of them (probably the second) has a brief history lesson in the event description. The second and third events in the sequence suggest conducting espionage, and if your current espionage against the race the event hit is high enough when the third event comes, they are prevented from being revived.
Actually, I already covered
N/A Means that the game was submitted using 1.00. The difficulty wasn't recorded.
I concurr. In the meantime, watch the color of the text. If it's green, they'll accept the offer. If it's yellow, they won't.
Scroll down. :) The actual error message is at the bottom of the page. Anything above that is some hints for those not as experienced with computers.
I seem to be getting recent crashes when I either exit Fullscreen GalCiv or Alt-Tab to the desktop. These are full crashes which lock up the computer with no chance of recovery. Suprisingly, SmartException actually picks this up, but doesn't really give any additional useful information. Additional information: Sound card is Creative Sound Blaster PCI128. There is the VIA chipset on the Mainboard. Stardock SmartException Logging Information
In the screenshots section of Galciv: There is a shot of the Evil News-bot at http://www.galciv.com/images/screenshots/27200261346PM.jpg Is it possible to find this screen in the game itself, or was the background depreciated as being unsuitable for the production run?
No, that is a hard coded limitation with the UI.
Read the manual for a good staring point, specifically the "Getting Started" tutorial. After that, create a new game with one AI at Fool difficulty level on a Medium map. Practice expanding as quickly as possible. Next, add an AI, going from two to five. At that point, start increasing the difficulty levels. There are a few early tech tree paths that are critical. Weapons Theory -> Phasors get you star Fighters. Defense Theory -> Deflectors gives you the defender. P
Ships shouldn't be invisible. If they are, save and reload the game. And yes, I have encountered the Dread Lords. They tear everybody to shreads.
