I downloaded it this morning. It's very, very nice. Thank you very much, HawaiiFive-O!

If the AI has more planets than you or more population, then with the same military/social/tech split, they could have more technology than you. Or, they could be investing a larger percentage of their economy in research. Or, they could have encountered research improving space debris with their surveyor. Or, they could have starbases on galactic resources that affect technology. Also, the AI may be trading technology with other players. Oh, and you mentioned the other reason
There are galactic resources that affect military. The difference in military stats could have been affected either by: a. The Drengin could have built a starbase over a military resource. or b. The Drengin could have added a mining module to an existing starbase over a military resource. Also, please remember that military stats can be affected both by the space debris found by surveyors as well as random events.
Sensor drones still have no maintenance cost. I guess they occur late enough in the tech tree that folks can't use them to do the same "devious" stuff?
At the very, very end of my last game, I heard something about a space monster. But as that was the turn I won a tech victory, I never actually saw it.
As a result of the changes to the MetaVerse scoring, my last game was also worth only about 1/5th as much. I am almost glad the MetaVerse is currently down. It is really, really unsatisfying to play a better game and achieve a score that is so much smaller. I imagine I'll wait until they go back and re-score all my games before playing again. Of course, I'm only saying that because I shouldn't have been playing the game during the week anyways. By the time the weekend rolls around, my
If you post a reply to a thread and then click the 'Go Back to Message Board' link, it takes you back to the very first page?? Isn't that just a bit silly? It reminds me of my Modem days when I had to watch the entire screen repaint every time I clicked a command. I guess the forum doesn't store any state information regarding which page you are on?
Thanks for the fleet tip! I grouped my six constructors in a fleet and was able to cancel their autopilot orders. Thanks!
Thanks for the tip about creating a fleet. That works quite well.
The Drengin were attacking from the "north", and I had a stack of six constructors heading that way on autopilot. I tried clicking on them to divert them. But those ships were bound and determined to rush "north" to their death. I think the Drengin empire had some sort of tractor beam that was pulling those ships toward it. No matter how hard I tried, those ships were pulled, pulled, pulled north. I think I did convince one of them to turn away. But the others rushed to their death!<br
I really cannot believe that the game destroyed my Antimatter Missile before destroying any of the other ships. I think it would be extremely helpful if I could say that one ship is a Designated Defender for that square.
I'm sure this has been suggested before. The game maintains a list of ships that need to be moved, and it REALLY, REALLY wants to make sure that you move them in that order. After you move one ship, the game jumps to the next ship in the list. This is severely annoying. Consider, for example, if one ship is in the NW quadrant of the galaxy and the next ship is in the SE quadrant of the galaxy. You have just finished moving the NW ship, and you get a very brief glimpse of somet
I had four ships in one square: a Battle Hammer, a Dreadnaught, a Scout, and an Antimatter Missile. The AI attacked with a Dreadnaught. Guess which ship was destroyed? Is this random, or is the game setup to let the AI attack the ship that is most likely to kick its butt on the following turn?
Woo Hoo! Thanks for the info. :)
Does anyone else thing that it might be nice if your ships would ask you before automatically attacking a ship that is in their path?
In 1.03, the cost of constructors increased from 150 to 200. In the 1.0 version, I think you didn't see diminishing returns on the production enhancement from starbases until you were somewhere around 20x the planet quality. In 1.01 or 1.02, I think this was lowered to 10x the planet quality. In 1.03, this *quasi* bug was corrected so that you can only boost the military / social production by 3x the planetary quality before you start seeing diminishing returns. If y
Add the web page to your Favorites. Then, from your Favorites List, right click on the favorite for JavaScout's webpage and select the option 'Make available Offline'. Thanks for asking this. I hadn't thought of doing this. Now the page load a bit faster. :)
When you click on the 'METAVERSE' link at the top, on the next page, you'll see a button labeled 'Legend' on the left that lists the ranks, the medals and the bronze bars. I just found that the other day, myself. Now, if I could just remember how the ranks are determined (Ensign, Commander, etc)...
In another thread, Frogboy said they'd located the source of this problem and would release a patch. It sounded like you would be able to resubmit your score.
In another thread, StarDock asked for players to volunteer to test mods. I think that is a great idea. Personally, I want the StarDock folks working on other stuff. I wouldn't mind if StarDock put a stronger warning on ALL mods saying that these are 'use at your own risk'. But, seriously, given all the infinite possibilities for mods, testing them would be more than a full-time job.
The dream of Gal Civ is to create a space empire 4x game with the best AI out there. To that end, StarDock created the ingenious MetaVerse so that players can submit their games for analysis in order to make the AI even better. AI is very, very hard to program and even more so when you try to code an AI that doesn't cheat. Given a choice between StarDock porting the game to Linux or continuing to pursue the awesome dream of evolving the AI, I choose the AI.
Oh, for the days of being a bachelor when I could start a game on Friday night and finish that game or the second one shortly before going to bed Sunday night. :) Seriously, with the speed at which the updates are coming out, I think we would be doing a disservice to the developers if we slept more than they do. :)
I think the key is to name your empire after the best sci-fi series ever to grace the television screens. That's what drew me into the best empire there is--not quite the highest score, but still better. :)
Personally, I think the price I paid for Gal Civ is WAY too little compared to the effort that StarDock is putting into this game. Most publishers of games today release the game and then leave it as is except for minor bug fixes. But Brad/StarDock's vision is to continue evolving the game to make the game and AI better. AI is HARD to program, and the AI in Gal Civ is quite amazing and fun and challenging and... I would put Brad and his team up above any team of programmers for any othe
They say you can increase your trade by building starbases along the way. Is there any way to see the effect of this? For example, when you build a mil/social production module on a starbase in a sector with planets, you can pull up the Details page and see an increase in the production. Is there anything similar that lets you see an increase in the trade for a sector? One time, I tried building trade improving modules on a starbase *after* the mini-freighter had already entered the se
