Hello all, I am editing the FactionText.xml files - adding in descriptions for custom factions in a mod but when I actually open them in the game, there are random line breaks that look like this it is incredibly annoying and looks unprofessional. Has anyone else had this issue and/or does anyone know of a resolution? Thanks!

Gauntlet's mod really doesn't change any of the underlying gameplay - it just adds races and ship styles. I haven't played with them together myself, but on the face of things, there's no reason they shouldn't be compatible.

I have done a few and I still find it to be an incredible pain in the ass. You make the ships in the game, then you leave the game to code them into a collection - the collection being the primary unit on which the game is based. I can't fathom a less intuitive system - jumping in and out of a game (that takes, like ten minutes to boot up, BTW) to see if your coding work actually functions properly. Also, that tool has "been on the horizon" since, like, last July. I'll believe

Dude, you're doing everything I wanted to do but didn't have time. Good on you. You're doing God's work. Event: Such and such world is experiencing a strong resurgence in radical religious zealotry - they claim to be an offshoot of the Wormhole-alien religion of the Prophets known as the "Pah Wraiths." Their leader claims that is it time to pursue a crusade against the godless aliens of other worlds and is encouraging his followers to take up arms. What

I honestly can not fucking believe they haven't released as easier way to do this, yet. Forget the fact that ability to makes a shipset should be EMBEDDED IN THE FUCKING GAME - let's leave that aside for a moment. They haven't even released a standalone downloadable tool. And even if they did, you couldn't download completed ship sets from the workshop. Still. A year later. Sorry. Just needed to vent.

Hello! So, the little bit of work I did do on this mod - creating races and shipsets, was broken by the most recent update. The dev streams have implied they're going to release some tools eventually that may make modding simple things like ship styles a little simple. I tried to start over from scratch a couple weeks ago and I didn't have much luck. To be honest with you guys, I was thoroughly underwhelmed the Mercs expansion and continue to be thoroughly underwhelmed by the

I was a little dispirited to see such a well thought-out post from Gauntlet be used as an opportunity for everyone to sort of say what they do and do not agree with. It really goes to show, we're nowhere with this game. It's not that I think anyone's opinions are bad it's just that it seems like none of us are able to separate what we see this game COULD be from what this game actually IS, and we, therefore spend post after post sniping at each other and sniping at the develop

This would be excellent but not everything listed here is possible yet in GC3. As far as I know you can't set exact race starts on maps in the map editor but hopefully this will change in the future. A complete reworking of the tech trees are needed as well as changing the components added to ships. You'd have to replace missiles with torpedoes so that would require changing models and effects and again I'm not 100% this is possible yet. Howeve

The big issue with the mod visually is giving it a cohesive look. Most of the images of Star Trek races come from screen grabs of the race on the show itself which is of a very low resolution. Getting a high res Ferengi or Federation picture is relatively easy. Getting a high-res picture of a Gorn or a Tholian is much trickier. The Gorn have never appeared in the later high-def shows and a Tholian only appears in a single episode of Enterprise in which there is a visual effect that undercuts

Would you mind making your file available for download? I don't like overwriting files either, but in this case, the damage you could possibly do is pretty minor.

You have to update two files: factiondefs and factiontext. Faction defs needs the information in the tag and faction text will require the information starting from . You also have to upload a Foreground image, background image, logo and portrait of the race into the relevant folders of your galciv3->factions folder. From there, it's just a simple matter of updating fields to suit your needs. The problem I ran into was I was only putting in n

I know exactly what you mean and, no, as of right now I don't think there's a way around it - you either change the main file or you don't. I decided not to. The devs have made the engine color function off a simple RGB number specification mechanism so clearly the capability is there to do it that way for everything. They just didn't do it. I haven't the slightest clue why we aren't able to specify colors directly in the GUI in that way. The gradientmaps strik

I am trying to create a new race for use in the game but it is being very finicky about the images. Sometimes the game replaces the foreground with the race logo image and other times it replaces the logo the foreground image. It is only doing this with one of the races I'm creating. Images here: http://imgur.com/a/7bHE0 Please advise. Thank you!

Yeah, I've actually made some custom shipsets in the past but I was having a couple issues. Like you mention, the AI doesn't always use them and when I play as that race in the future, other designs from outside my customized shipstyle sometimes show up in the buildlist. Moreover, the switch to 1.4 broke all my custom shipstyles and deleted the associated factions. Any insights on why that would be?

Hello all, Just putting out feelers to see if anyone was interested in participating in putting together a Star Trek mod. For the first time, airmaster and Omnibus (the two best Star Trek ship designers by a pretty wide margin) are on board and we are full steam ahead. If anyone is interested in participating or helping out, we'd love to have you aboard. Thanks all!
