In my experience (mostly small to large maps on maso with different cluster/abundance settings with default alignments) Yor are definitely the weakest ai. Torians can be strong but they have poor attacking skills. Drengin and Altarians are the most dangerous in my opinion, though the Drengins strategy requires them to succeed fast or else they tire. Arceans are better than the Yor and can last more than the Drengin but tend not to dominate because they neither ally nor go in early conquest wars.
[Side question: why did holding Research resources increase the amount I spent on Research and take it from my budget, rather than increasing the amount I spent as free increase?]
It did both: Increase the paying and the free portions. If you kept the same number of bc in it, then the free portion would have augmented.
A) You're wrong about the tech-sharing event, because when new minors show up later in the game, they always show up with most if not all of the tech anybody anywhere has researched. This makes it nigh impossible to keep a tech lead, whether you are the player or the AI. Those behind can always exploit the new minors, who show up entirely defenseless and ready to be raked across the coals.
Actually, I saw it the other way around, where I have almost no tech the others don
The suggestion to "keep some transports floating in space" as a workaround to the event is BEYOND INSULTING. That's not strategy, it's exploiting the game design.
It is by no means an insult. It is just a proposal to show that you can counteract the event. From my point of view, CtrlN is beyond cheating because you abuse the fact that you can always restart. I don't tell people who suggest to use a game feature that they are insulting. Again, I think your main point i

My point was 1) it's not broken because I always recovered from it so it's not a game-killer. 2) it is not random because you made a decision in order to get this event deal you damage. Thus the assertion that strategy had no matter in this event breaking the game was false. I was not refuting that the event was a problem, but the fact that it had nothing to do with strategy. It has, it is totally linked to strategy. If you play evil, be ready to face it. Keep some ships with combat tra

It's up to Stardock to answer, but I'll try too: They said they'd provide support for galciv for one year and this they will do. It also looks like they didn't plan support for more than one year (and we're nearly there). They said they'd continue to support galciv (no XP) as was planned and the resources on the XP are different resources. So I think that 1) there will still be support for galciv (no XPack) 2) there will be support for the paying XPack after vanilla galciv su

Alexians could be exploited, but no longer can (at least not more than a few bc in myu experience). This has been done in a patch sometime before 1.10. Jordanvmp, which version do you use?
Here is the text on scoring (I'm sorry I don't remember who to credit (from the 1.05 era):
The problem with that text is that if you win a game by tech and then replay it to an alliance on same turn, you can see a difference that is not consistent with what's written there. Anyway:
Economics, Trade Goods, Wonders, etc. These other things are looked at and a few points added. They won't make that big of a difference (on a 15,000 point score they may add a few

I strongly disagree with the statement that this event is brkoen. I actually like it the way it is now. Note that I didn't like the nerfing of events like space sharks in the early days and wouldn't like that either. You have to remember this: Fundies is the main price you pay for being evil (that the good guys don't like you is not so much of a concern in my opinion, since you know it and can target them first). Therefore, I might even argue that it doesn't happen often enough. If

TG used to be valued a lot. I mean really much. So now their value has been adjusted quite a bit. I always sell all my TG except Diplomatic Translators to new minors in exchange for all their cash over as long as possible when they appear. This prevents other races from taking their money, and I can't sell them tech since they have all the same as me. The result is usually good enough in terms of money, though the main idea is to cripple the minor so they don't start becoming powerful and I

I don't know. I once wanted to do something similar (limit the number of starbase modules to 2 and leave the UP to build more) but the trade thing definitely was too much for me so I didn't try. You should try leaving just before building a terror star to see if you can.

Notice that in the example, the minor was not any minor, it was the I-League. There are 2 minors that are often powerful: I-League and Fundamentalists. These can start/get many more planets than most other minors. As for their ships being powerful, you can dodge them and just bash what's on the planets to alpha strike them. However, the I-League tends to resurrect itself out of nowhere from time to time (if any system decides to defect), so you may not want to declare war on them even if

The free production is a percentage of the paying production (or total prod, if you prefer to see ti that way). This prevents you from building stuff when spending 0% on social/military. It would be quite hard to know where to put the production if it was not null (in social, in military, in both but under what proportion?)

The point is that they reach it before you BECAUSE you lease and don't spend at 100%. Now some techs you'll never be first and have to lease if you want the trade goods (nano metal composition, the tri strontium stuff TG and the other one). These are atually better left to the ai (or, even better, a minor) so you can focus on something else. Also don't lease if the only civ that might built aTG is a minor. You'll be better off buying it from them later on. Wonders are worth buying, though,

I forgot the most important part: Don't be at war! You want to be at war when YOU want, not when they want. The best way not to be at war is to keep the ai busy fighting one another. Thye like fighting the minors, so you can give ships to minors so they last longer, or give 2 techs to the altarians so they attack the arceans, and 2 techs to the arceans so they fight the drengin (who hopefully were already at war with the Torians who fought the Yor). Then, you can give in to threats when

Sell deflectors if you an and buy defensive phasers if you want to use hammers. Buy diplomatic translators at any cost if someone else built it. Never sell it to anyone, unless you plan to kill them on next turn. You can buy any trade good but shouldn't sell grav accelerators or influence ones (galactic guide book) to a major. Other than that, a 'good' trade depends a lot on your diplomatic skills and the level you play. Incredible ai's giving you 10bc for deflectors means you have a
I find anything other than a military victory is boring.
And I find military victories boring. The "Well, I control 90% of the galaxy, am sure to win, but still have 5 star systems to conquer - can't bother" syndrome. I don't really care about the score though, but Stardock should, as right now almost everyone seems to be turning off the alternate win conditions.

Universalists is ok, but I think you usually benefit more from more focused pol parties (+20 econ or diplo or morale come to mind). Check the strat forum. The maso strategies thread has a lot of advice that can be used successfully at lower difficulty levels. Mostly, trade techs with other races (for other techs, money, IP, ships, whatever), keep your spendings high, don't worry if you get in the red, and get Diplomatic Translators. Then get resources (build on them, but them, cause the ai t

He has a point that random events can happen at any difficulty level and are not biased difficulty-wise. The way Stardock handled that was by almost removing the space sharks event that was quite common in 1.0 because players ranted that it killed their games. Events should have a difficulty assigned to them so they won't happen if the game is too easy. This said, I don't think Fundies belong to the category of events that should be difficulty-dependent. OT: Leave Hermann al
