Why do you keep bring up MaxStyles? We are crossing posts...Two people making a suite with the core for sale is simply a different idea of a community skin than I think was held by many and is a result of the evolving world of pay for skins with which I have no problem. I do not think this is a world breaking situation nor have I presented it as such. I am not talking about MaxStles skins or any other particular skin, I am talking abut Jafo's definition of a community skin period.
Can't we all just gey along
Having a differing opinion should not be construed as "not getting along". There is no hostility on this end for sure. Just for the point, common ownership and personal property are two different things. To sell something you must own it first or if you own it is common, you must get everyone's agreement to sell. I always viewed Community Skins as skins made as a combined effort by the community as a gift for the community. Only my view, ce
I'm not 100% sure OUR opinions or definitions of "community skin" matters. What matters is the definition set by WC admin. Whether it's 2 or 20, if they want to call it a community skin, well... I think that would be their right.
No one said it wasn't their right. But in a world where our opinions concerning the meaning of "community" don't really matter and we just accept the edicts from above without comment.....well, then that is not much of a community, only an audie
Community Skin n. A group of skins [or suite] created by no less than TWO individual skinners intended to be a 'set' in appearance and style, sharing origins/images.
So, a master and another person get together, make a suite, offer the WB section for sale and the rest free and we have a Community Skin? Bizarre.....this is sure a convolution of what I always thought about a Community Skin. My bad I guess.
The thread is about what is and isn't OK to post on WinCustomize; forums, news, skins etc. that might border on the edge of unacceptable advertising or spam. Do Masters get a bit of leeway? Can non-masters sell their stuff on outside sites and advertise it here in the forums? What are the limits? What's fair to both the community at large, and the skinners who have contributed free work for years? Perfectly summed up. <img
.as it pertains to THIS community was MY initial concern.
Throughout this thread, THIS community has referred to the skinning community on more than one occasion. WC does not live in a vacuum.
Has ZERO bearing on this discussion a
Disagree. When, where and what is acceptable advertising and self promotion is exactly the topic.
But from what I read, anyone can sell skins on their site and advertise them on WC and not have to sell them here.
As only masters can sell them here, this cannot apply to "anybody". "Anybody" does not have the option. Question: A master sells a skin here on WC and the same skin on his/her own site. If the skin is advertised for sale on additional sites on the net, is there any obligation to mention WC or is it fine to link only his/her own site? PS
As of date I have yet to upload a 3D render, as seeing works like yours and others, I have yet to feel good enough to attempt it..
You never know what will strike the fancy of someone. Some of my work that I consider some of my best, gets few downloads and other times a piece I think is just OK gets a lot of downloads. So go for it and have fun! I believe that you or anyone will actually improve their work by being out there in the public eye. Somewhat like learni
Of thousands of Photo manipulations/renderings I have on my PC, I have 3 in the gallery that were worthy of being Walls, and if
The differentiation was between 3D renders and photo-manips. Totally different animals. There are no 3D renders in your gallery. Your use of the / confuses the terms.
Hey Kenwas, I'm sure a fair share of people might have been fooled into thinking a couple of your walls were real.. awesome work.
Thank you! I would have to live in a really strange place or be able to fly to get those shots though! I keep reading that this isn't an art site, but in the nex
Well, they're good enough to fool me. They always looked like photos with great editing work done on them
All this time you thought they were photo manips? Well, I'll certainly take that as a compliment as a degree of realism is always one of my goals. Vue Infinite is also a great program and a fine render engine as well which makes my job somewhat easier for sure.
It is also important to note that there is a difference between a photo wall such as the work Kenwas does, and a photo of your backyard, taken through a screen and glass door, or a picture of a friend in a costume.
I assume you are thinking of someone else as all my walls are 3D renders and not photos.

"Im curious Craig, is there a salary cap in baseball, and if there is how would you get away with paying above that and not break any rules." Not really as salary cap but "MLB has instead implemented the so-called luxury tax, an arrangement by which teams whose aggregate payroll exceeds a certain annually revised figure is taxed on the excess amount (or fined). This is paid to the MLB who then puts the money into its "industry-growth fund". [3] For
Hypothetically, if the SOX didn't try to compete with the Yankess and their payroll, the Sox Nation would have strung up the owners by now and hijacked the team for themselves. If the sox don't spend more than the salary cap they are not playing to win. Sox fans buy alot of stuff, we are proud, we are the CHAMPIONS!
Exactly so! Well said NT! We are the Champions indeed! Go Sox!
