Probably gets tired of explaining why he has the right to sell his products amongst the $hitstorm of entitlement. Undoubtedly, but...ahh the heck with it.
I gotta admit.. since Vista was released, the crew at Stardock have been WAY bigger people than I would have been in dealing with some of the completely irrational people that have cattled through the doors. Kudos to you all for keeping it professional. Ditto that!
So if someone really thinks that we haven't been doing a good job updating and enhancing Object Desktop this past year, then I really don't know if I want them as a customer. So much for stating a contrary position. Why do you feel it necessary to say these things?
So that is something we'll have to enforce more strongly going forward. But understand this: We are a site run by volunteers. Some of the attitudes and words that have been expressed to the volunteers is upsetting to say the least. Have realistic expectation and be reasonable in your discourse. The reason other sites don't have moderation isn't because they're more open. It's because it's cheaper and easier. We do our best on moderation but we have to bala
Opps, Jafo beat me to it.
People who drive with 2 feet. I think you will find that almost all professional drivers (race car drivers that is) drive with two feet. Check it out. Knowing how to do it and will the right touch is the ticket.
Put bluntly, Russian rip sites do not give a f**k whose the upload is....and if you enter a pissing match over one....they don't plead the fifth...they plead 'no-speakie-English' [cos it suits them to] and simply ignore you.... Very true. I have prints of my work being actually sold on several Russian sites so you have no argument from me with this statement. I think there is a concern about the Dreams policy opening the flood gates by allowing people
We are working on a "report rip" feature for the site which will make this a lot easier. It will require that you provide a link to the original work as proof of the rip. Now you're talkin' !!! Excellent!
This new PM gizmo will help with many issues such as these....and other plans are afoot to improve things as well....
Just for the record Jafo, I did not compare WC to a Russian rip site. I compared the use of Rule 3 which puts the burden of ownership proof on the original artist to the methods used by Russian rip sites operators. Period.
lease don't compare this with that which is found on Russian sites [your example]. The difference is that if and when an author takes issue with something of his posted here it is dealt with. Jafo, I believe if you read the thread you will note that everyone has repeatedly asked why the referenced walls were still there after all the time of this thread. That is the frustration with the thread and many of the responders.
I do in fact check many of the Dream uploads for the 15 second/25% rule. A great number of entries have been rejected for not following the fair use rules we set out, which are incredibly more restrictive than most other sites that would take the same content. Zoomba, I tried to make it clear that I do not doubt mods or your intentions. We are talking about a potentially large upload situation where "I" needs to be a very well educated "we" and still yo
If I read these rules correctly, I can use 15 sec of anyone's material (provided that that is not more than 25 % of the total) without any permission required (0nly a link to the source) and unless the source complains and can prove ownership, all is fine? Rule 3 is quite interesting That is how the Russian rip sites operate. Try proving ownership in Russia. I repeat, a slippery slope. You actually expect the mods to check the 25% rule, check the 15 sec rule and check
the situation with dreams is that provided the animation is no more than 15 seconds [eg extracted from a video] it's deemed 'fair use', unless determined otherwise by the owner of source. I agree with NT here. This sure sounds like a slippery slope in the ethical department. 14.9 seconds all is well, unless of course the original artist happens by some amazing luck to find the piece and complains. 15.1 seconds, it is a rip ? Ethical slight of hand in m
Happy Birthday to you!
A prayer for your complete recovery!
