I had a similar problem when I made my mods too. I dug around in the forum a bit and found a thread that RustyBlade started, that led me to a nice program that'll help you out. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GM&id=41556 He has a link to where you can download the program, and describes it a bit. It'll let you convert that 24bpp PCX into an 8bpp really easily.

It shouldn't automatically disable it. But when you are playing with mods, you shouldn't submit the game if the mod looks like it will throw the game balance out of whack. It's kind of a grey area, but Brad (Frogboy) himself has said that they are fairly lenient about it. Although they have stated that if they catch you really cheating, you will be banned from the metaverse. I haven't had a look at Hebert's mods yet, so I can't comment on them specifically. But just use

If I understand correctly, they allow you to specify a location ahead of time where you want your newly created ships to automatically move to. To cut down on the the tedious job of moving them all yourself.

After I grab up all the 15+ PQ planets I can, and have some money coming in, I usually colonize all the 13 and 14 PQ planets in my area as well. Within a fairly short time you can raise them up to atleast 15 with the early terraforming techs. And if I am really in need of planets, I'll colonize a 12 PQ planet or two. But that's the lowest I go. I remember reading something about an economic cost for colonizing below 15 PQ, but I'm not sure about it. Also, I'm not sure if that cost d

I've been using the same stratagy Forceinfinity just outlined to win my games lately, and it has been working well. A couple of things I would add to that is to switch your starfighter production over to corvettes as soon as you research it. They have the same production time and maintenance as starfighters, but slightly better stats. You shouldn't be using them as your actual warcraft after the beginning of the game, but I've found that corvettes stacked into a fleet are

One thing I would love is a pop-up that warns you that your next senate election is a turn away. It may just be me, but I always forget about them until it's too late. (Darn aliens distracting me. :)) A warning would give forgetful people like me a reminder to play around with the tax sliders and try to win that next election.

Equinox - from Star Trek Voyager, looks a lot like the survey ships. Eclipse - a 17 km long star destroyer from Star Wars. Chimaera - Grand Admiral Thrawn's ship from Star Wars. Here's a link to a bunch of other star destroyer names. The writers always seem to come up with pretty good names in the novels. http://www.theforce.net/swtc/isdlist.html

I watched most of the 1st season of Enterprise, but I just couldn't get interested enough in the characters or stories to continue watching. One of the things that really turned me off was that episode with the Ferengi. The show's writers have all these cool alien races to choose from for their episodes, and they choose one that the Federation won't make first contact with for another 200 years. Why, because people like the Ferengi, and it will draw viewers. Talk about stretching c

Having two or three survey ships on a giant map can be useful though, so that you can pick up the empire-wide bonuses faster. But you definately want the vast majority of your fleet to be the generic dreadnoughts and such.

Besides the techs there's several things that could be making their ships stronger: 1) Built on a planet with a lot of ship bonus social improvements. (Not just shipyards, a few others help as well. Like medical centers, and a few others.) 2) Mining a military resource or two. 3) They may had picked racial picks that increased it, as well as maybe being the War Party. 4) Ships gain levels as they survive battles, and as the levels go up so do the ship's stats

Yeah it can get expensive to keep your morale above 50, especially early in the game. But you start out with a 1000 bc, so you can run on a deficit for a while if you like. What I like to do is to max out the production slider at turn one. And then set the military slider to 60, with social and research both to 20. Also I leave the tax fairly low to get the morale. I lose a lot of money for the first portion of the game, but it lets me build my colony ships, constructors, starfighter

1) Yep, tech improvements apply to all existing ships. Where as planet improvements, like shipyards, only affect ships manufactured after the improvement was built. 2) To see what a planet has built, click on the "Details" button in the lower left-hand courner of the planet screen. You can also see all the bonuses the planet has as well. So if you got a random event on the planet that gave a bonus or penalty, it will show up there.

I usually don't have any trouble keeping my morale around, and above, 50% as long as I don't over tax. Even a realativly small increase in taxes can really affect your morale, so play around with the sliders until you get a good balance between income, morale, and production. Also, the social projects which give morale bonuses are a really good deal for the money it takes to maintain them. After they are built the population will increase, providing you with more tax payers, and pay

Wampyre's (and Bobo's :)) points are just as valid and welcome on the board as yours are AntWrig. There's no need to be so rude. On topic, I like the PQ system GalCiv has set up. It's a lot less time consuming then how Moo3 does it. Which means more time for fun. Although I do own MOO3, and like it for other reasons. And by about half way through the game, my planets are fairly different and unique. One planet might have a huge production bonus from a series of galactic wo

Well, I hope it all works out for you. :) I hope you didn't take my post the wrong way, I was just trying to show the difference between the game and the license. Part of the free services they are providing is the expansion, it will be completely free to registered owners. So if all this gets worked out, you won't have to pay a thing for atleast a year when the membership runs out. The registration process to download all the free stuff is Stardocks way of preventing piracy, instead

"Whoa. Are you saying someone who buys a single user license for the game, can't give or sell that single license to another person if he doesn't want it anymore? I realize it's not going to be a software producers favorite thing because they don't make money on that second transaction, but you know, when I sell my car, the car dealer doesn't make money on that either." In response to Paguma's car example, remeber that you are buying two things when you buy Gal Civ brand new. 1) The ga

Yes, they changed the scoring system a bit with the last patch to make it more fair. They've also said they are going to go back through the old scores at some point to change them accordind to the new scoring system. From looking at your last score, I'd say that would have been atleast 2000 points if you'd been using an older patch. So, congrats on the good game. :CONGRAT:

Thanks Bill, for the great program. It's really helped with the modding I've done so far. I still start out with the notepad to give me a rough idea of the mod, but then I move to your program to polish it up and catch any mistakes I might of made. Saves me a lot of trouble in the end. :)

Even taken in context, that was still a foolish thing for Al Gore to say. Talk about trying to take all the credit. That is why people make fun of that so much, because he was stretching the truth so much just to make himself seem so great. But I guess that is par for the course when a politician is involved. ;)

There was a planet Gaia in Isaac Asimov's Foundation series. It might be a reference to that, rather then the real meaning. Or else they just really liked the name. :)
