Wow, with everybody else's scores getting reduces, I jumped into the Top 25. Quite an accomplishment, considering I readily admit, I'm not vey good at this game. My wins at the higher levels were poor examples, because it's very easy to win Beyond Human in a Gigantic Universe at any difficulty. You just have to stay out of wars.

Oh yeah, and don't forget, if you don't build any morale boosting social projects for a long time, your population's morale will most likely drop, and cause you to lose an election. Seems fairly realistic to me, and that's all you can really expect in a game "fairly" realistic. If it was completely realistic, it probably wouldn't be fun to play.

Technician: Why? If your standard of living is not getting worse, why would people be mad? All your existing social programs are still being funded, it's just that the new money is going towards military expenses. Also, you have to suspend your disbelief a little. We're talking about a game where you're trying to survive in a hostile universe. You do what you have to do to survive, if that means, you have to wait a few extra years to get the new virtual reality centers well so

No, don't think you are doing something wrong compared to me. You're probably doing things right, and I'm doing them wrong. Although I'm always a fast player in these types of games, which is why multiplayer for turn based games is just completely useless to me anyway. Part of my "problem" is I am impatient. Where other people spend a lot of time making sure everything is going well before pressing the turn button, I just keep happily hitting it until something is obviously wro

I think you shouldn't think of it as all the government's funds, but the excess funds, after all the minimal expenses are covered. It's not that they are not spending any money on social spending, it's that there is no NEW spending on social programs. You're still paying the maintenance on all the existing social programs that were already built after all, don't forget about that. Same thing with military, you have to support you existing military. (maintenance) you're just no

Does this affect whether you can build a culture enhancing starbase in a sector? I seem to get the AI demand I give it to him even if I have 2 or 3 planets in the sector to his 1. I guess if he has any planets in the sector you can't build influence bonus starbases?

Sorry if someone has said this before as I don't read this thread, but I found a few bugs this weekend. I think the rest are already known, but not sure about this one. I had a freighter that left Planet X to go to Planet Y. Part way to Planet Y, Planet X (my planet) defected and joined Empire Y. Then my ship arrived at Planet Y, and I got credit for a trade route between Planet X and Y, even though I didn't hold Planet X anymore. The key here seems to be I owned Planet X when

I've seen it with dissappearing ships before, but this weekend was the first time I saw it with a starbase. For me it wasn't a terror star, but one of my massive culture bombing starbases. They "dissappeared". At first I thought it was gone, but then when the enemies planets started defecting, I got the idea there was something wrong. I reloaded and sure enough they came back, and then 30-40 turns later, they dissappeared again. Always during the upgrade process for whatever that is wo

BTW, I upped the skill level of my opponents, and finished 3 more gigantic universes this weekend. 1) DIFFICULTY: All AI at Genius DURATION: 3 hours. MAP SIZE: Gigantic Pretty much as the one I described above, I did it without a significant army, but by staying in good relations with the other races. I probably would have lost this game had the computer been allowed to pursue Technological victory. 2) DIFFICULTY: All AI at Genius DUR

CariElf: This is better than nothing, but it would be REALLY REALLY nice, to be able to offer the computer a deal, and have him counter offer. For example, "I'm willing to give you trade for 9000 credits." He says, "no, but I'll give you 400 credits." Or, a feature I'd really like is simply, "I'll give you you Trade, what will you give me for it?" Often I've already decided I'm going to sell the AI something, but it's a long process to find out what you can g

When you say the Torians CAN'T invade, I assume you mean they are less likely to invade? I was playing yesterday, and in the early game, when I'm at my weakest, the Torians invaded and captured two of my planets. This was on Genius level.

Experience... Look at my submitted game history. When I first got the game, I thought it was so difficult I lowered the game all the way to cakewalk before I won. Then, with each victory I raised it. Now I win most games with the computer on Intelligent (all Intelligent = Painful), but have yet to win with them on Genius. (all Genius = Crippling) It may sound odd, but when I was a new player people told me the secret of success was learning when and how to adjust the sliders. T

I don't know about other people, but generally I win or lose all my games in the early game. That might be due to my style though. Either the computer detects I am weak early in the game, and goes for the quick kill, or I quickly leave him behind in every category and march to an unchallenged victory. I eventually become so strong, none of them want to mess with me, especially when their incomes are so closely entertwined with me. On Genius however, they are detecting my early weakness

Joben: You are correct, it is an incorrect use of the word lease, but it's been used so much now, it's become THE term. When you lease something, you pay for it over time, but you don't actually own it. At the end of the lease, you give the item back. That's not the case here. What this is, is a loan or amortization.

I think the population on planets also affects the influence of the planets. This is where the computer almost always beats me early in the game. I eventually catch up or pass him, but early in the game, it's very hard for me to co-exist in a sector with the computer. Especially at Bright or smarter, they seem to understand and will purposely increase their influence in these situations. The first time I played on Bright it caught me by surprise.

I play Federalists and +20% bonus, and by mid game, I'm floating in money, even when spending 100%. Of course my +20% morale means I can tax higher too. Alos my early research is often to improve my trading... That's not proof that it works, but when I try other combinations I don't have this "problem".

I think there are two different issues here. If someone agrees to lease technology from you. They should not get out of their lease just because of a war. However, if someone offers tribute to avoid a war, the other party should not be allowed to accept it, and immediately declare war. If it's tribute paid over time, a possible solution would be to cut it off. Of course if they demand an up front payment, then you're screwed anyway.

Yes, as they reproduce wildly in all the excitement of your new morale booster, and quickly become overpopulated again, causing the morale to drop again. I believe if you keep your morale around 60% it will be more consistent, but you won't get the population growth. It all depends on what you're trying to do. Do you want your population to grow at this point of the game? If yes, then keep morale high, and building more morale boosters to keep it high.
