Having multiple trade routes is the best way to the AI's heart. However with 5 AIs, you have to pick your routes strategically for their political as well as financial value.

Actually I find many of the ships seem to be a big jump in quality, but the Excalibur is the biggest. Once I get Excaliber's I'm unstoppable. Luckily for the AI, they tend to get them first, unfortunately for the AI they don't make good use of them.

I agree, and I use this tactic constantly, unfortunately, once in awhile, my troops do better than expected and succeed, only to destroy the planet. :-) This is probably stupid, however fixing it would create a different problem. You could attack with 1 troop, do some attrocity to reduce the planet quality, never having the real potential to do any damage. So I think this is a very tricky area to work with.

Okay, I can now beat Masochistic anytime I get a decent start using pretty much just constructors. The AI at this level are clearly well beyond my skill level but they are completely unable to deal with my cultural influence attacks. They seem to try to stop me by building their own starbases but this is not effective. They can not compete with the quantity or the speed I build them at. They should simply detect what I am doing and declare war because their fleets are massive and I hav

I get frequent lock ups during the AIs turn in my games. Never ending hourglass during their turns is what I see. Luckily, the turn can be aborted. If I save the game, and reload GalCiv the problem goes away so I have a work around. This has been around since I first started playing GalCiv. Although yesterday when I was playing I had several CTD which I haven't had with GalCiv in quite awhile, not sure what that was about. Not sure what caused it, but it happened many times. Wh

Contrary to popular belief, I was not cut off, I just didn't have anything else to say... My historical knowledge is pretty think now. I've found I've forgotten almost everything I knew. I think the binge drinking at the end of University cleared my memory! :-)

Acadia and the Maritimes are not the same thing either. Acadia was the French colonies in the Maritimes. It included some areas of each of the Maritime provinces (not sure about PEI but I think so), but it was never the entirity of any of them. Saint John, N.B. and Halifax, N.S. for example are two very "english" cities. I am of 100% Acadian decent, although to the horror of my fellow French Canadians, I am assimilated. I am the first generation English speaking (1st language)

P.S. I was in Stockholm in June. I loved it! I thought it was the most beautiful of the Scandinavian/Baltic port of call I went to. In fairness, I didn't go to many: Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Talinn and Coppenhagen.

Technically the Maritimes do not include Newfoundland. It's a fine point many people don't know, and probably don't care about. When people want to refer to the Maritime provinces as well as Newfoundland, they call them the "Atlantic Provinces". Bottom line is, they're all on the East Coast and touch the Atlantic Ocean. I'm originally from New Brunswick, but moved to Nova Scotia at 16, so I consider both home. I just refer to myself as a Maritimer. It seems especially

Well, I know one thing that is false in your statement. You can make friends, even allies with your moral opposites. I often end up allying myself (good) with the Drengin (evil) because I find they're competent in battle, unlike the stupid Torian (who are good). You strategies have only small differences to the most common strategies used. Those are the same strategies I'm talking about when I complain about them attacking me for a lack of military. Looking at your description you are b

I guess this is similar to the point I raised the other day. I was playing a game and when it got down to just the last 2 playersit seems up that I can pay the other guy not to attack me when his military is 5 times bigger than mine. It seems like an ideal time for him to make his move to finish me off and win the game. Especially since the race in question is the Drengin who is evil and loves war.

I think doing something about armies of Constructors is the first step to make every level more difficult! It's too easy to win any game by building just constructors. I've done it at every level up to, and including Masochistic.

Okay, I just wont at Masochistic again, and it was way too easy... I even got credit for a military victory which is a bit of a joke. Here's a quick summary. I find 2 habitable planets in my sector on a small map. I don't bother building any colony ships since I know the AI will beat me to the planets anyway. I immediately start building my infrastructure. (lots of bonuses for economy). I am by far the smallest of the 5 factions. I pay everybody to leave me alone with my booming economy

Frogboy: I understand the difficulty programming AI. I did it for one of my own games that ran through a BBS in the "olden" days. No matter how good you do it, some human will find a way to abuse it. Also, it's hard to balance it so it can adjust and make the game interesting for the best players, without making it too crazy for the weaker players.

Sorry if this has been covered already. I haven't read all the threads on new feature requests. As a player who likes to play Gigantic maps, I'd like to of course see more races. There is talk of 2 more, so that's great. (More would be better). Also, I'd like to see the ability to add more than 5 races to a game. It may not make sense in small games but I think it would be cool in Gigantic maps. It should also be possible to add more than one version of the same race. Create s

Well, I think my original point was a little confused. Probably my fault. I agree that winning cultural victories are easier, and at first that was the only way to win. My complaint is that without building a significant military early into a Masochistic game, I will have all races declare war on me no matter what else I'm doing it. Often they do it so fast I haven't even begun to build my freighters, or they're still on route because my engine technology is so pathetic. I can

Woohoo, finally my 2nd Maso. victory. That one took me several attempts. I'm clearly not a player that should be playing on that level. My style of play is almost impossible at that level, the AIs are just way too aggressive. No big deal, I enjoy it at lower levels more anyway, just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.

Oh, as I mentioned several times in my original post. This is just my opinion and I still hold it. To me it is one of the most frustrating thing in the game. I can't count how many games I had to quit early because the crazy AIs all declare war on me right at the beginning. After this happens to me 3-4 times in a row, I don't play it a 5th, I put it away and maybe I come back to it a few days later, or weeks, or months... I just find the emphasis on military power in this game is way to

Frogboy that must be a latter change, because in some of my Gigantic map games in May, I had guys declare war on me from the other side of the universe. The guys never did make it over to attack me. So after 40 or 50 turns they ask for peace, when the declared the war in the first place and our ships never came into contact. Just seems stupid. What was the purpose of the war?

This is my opinion, so some, or many may not agree. I know I read somewhere when I began playing GalCiv back in April or whenever it was, that the designers of this game didn't like the way the computer players ganged up on the strong players for no reason other than he was the strongest. They felt that was unrealistic and that many relationships that were forged to that point are thrown out the window and that it's very frustrating. I completely agree with their comments on th
