What is that last logo? You're normal. I'd like to see the logo for abnormal!
Which I can tell the Aliens to remove their Starbase from my space ?
You can demand it, they're unlikely to accept it. I have succesfully bought them before. Starbases are listed with the ships in the diplomatic screen. Somewhere in an early patch, they added the ability for the AIs to detect a cultural attack if they have planets in the sector. However, you are probably aware, that your culture rating in a sector is based on what you have in that sector, and the

I'd be one heck of an ugly Queen! I'm just surprised to be #1 in in my own empire again. Several of you other guys had surpassed me by quite a bit. That was before I realized how you can easily beat masochistic AIs with cultural attacks. They simply can not detect them unless they are in one of their sectors. You may not realize it, but if you can find an empty sector that is surrounded by say 20 planets in adjacent sectors, you can turn all 20 of those planets
We really do need a doorman to keep the drunkards out.
I don't think Masochistic is the best way to play. My favorite level to play for fun would be with all the AI at Intelligent. I think that's Crippling? I play Masochistic just for the points, which is why I play medium or small galaxies, so I can finish them fast. When I play for real fun, I would play Crippling in Huge or Gigantic maps. That can keep me busy for days! I'd get less points than Masochistic smalls though...
You can put me on the list that thinks that the cultural attacks need to be fixed. I have a long list of masochistic wins, but compared to the top players of this game, I suck. It's so easy to win at Masochistic just by building constructors. It's an even bigger joke since I get military victory points for doing it when I destroy the last planet for ships. I don't think this is that difficult to fix. The AIs just need to be able to detect when a cultural attack is occuring, ri
As I mentioned before, I won't be buying the expansion, so that's no good to me. Although I am curious about the 2 new races, I just don't think it's worth $20USD for the amount I'm likely to play it. I may change my mind months from now though, who knows. P.S. What is Captain Flash smoking?
Well, I just submitted my latest "win" at Masochistic. I know this has been brought up many times before, but the AIs are just not able to detect culture attacks good enough. I was playing in a medium universe, and I only had 5 planets in a single sector. The other races had basically already discovered everything and were fighting amongst themselves, when my waves of constructors took off. First I took back the other two planets in my sector I had to "gift" to the Drengin earlier
How exactly do you maintain a life? Or do you? :-)
Oh, I'll have to play at least one more before taking a break. After I submit my finished game tonight, I'll only be 1 game away from moving up to Vice Admiral
Does GROSS still exist? :-)
Yeah, but I think I'm getting tired of GalCiv again... :-) In case you didn't notice, look at my history, I play a few games, then take a month off... :-) P.S. yeah, I means Reals Beyond, not Special Forces. That serves me right for depending on my memory. If only I could remember to stop doing that! [Message Edited]
Well it's clear that I alone can't keep up with the Special Forces. Unless we get a more widespread group submitting we may be abdicating 6th place for awhile. I did manage to add about 80,000 points to my own score in the past week. That's not bad. I have another medium Masochistic game to submit tonight. I finished it in the waiting room while getting my brakes serviced this morning. :-)
Well, I just put us back into 6th place, not by much though...
If you really though I was saying "guns are bad" then you completely misunderstood the point. I was just saying I don't play a military game, and I also don't get attacked by the computer. I'm just pointing out the guy who asked for help, that building a military is not the only solution to being attacked.
That's what I do to, if they're going to give you an extra 20% on the score, why not. I have never played a military game (Hey, I'm Canadian eh!) yet most of my recent (since this change) victories are military... All this rule really did, is hide how people are really playing the game.
I would of course always argue that guns don't solve anything! I play every difficulty level without really building any military until the final turns (for maximum points). High diplomacy, and strategic trading and gifts are the key to maintaining the peace. Of course if you know you're not going to build a military, there is no need to research any military techs, so you can concentrate on the diplomacy/trade ones to help keep relations high. If you can't keep all o
Well I put in 4 small masochistic wins this weekend. It wasn't enough to pass them, but it was enough to keep us very close. Funny thing is, one of my masochistic wins was scored as "tiny". Not sure how that happened since I never changed any settings between the 4 games (other than changing some of my abilities on the 4th game). Did the game get easier in some of the patches. After not playing regularly for about a month, I came back and found masochistic easier then ever befo
Okay, Canucks, time to wake up... We're being threatened. I'll get a couple of Maso wins to bring us closer, but would appreciate a little help.
Not sure if it was "fixed" but at one point they would rarely build transports either. Can't take over planets without troops (since bombers never made it to the game).
I had an interesting game last night. After about an hour into my small Maso. game I was way ahead in population, tech, getting all the trade goods, etc... Stupid me, I didn't save when things were going good, and while I was enjoying my lead, I didn't notice the Altareans picking off a few planets. In a small universe a few planets makes a huge difference, next thing I know, he's out of control, and even allying with the other two remaining races wasn't enough to win. I ended up in a s
Future Watch: I've got my eye on erjugger as he is quickly climbing through the ranks of the Canadian Star Federation. P.S. I guess it's about time I knock off a couple small masochistic wins to get myself a few extra points in the metaverse... :HOT:
I can't speak for you of course, but my style of play does NOT lend itself to Massochistic games. I have won at that level several times, but I have to alter the way I play so much, I do not enjoy playing like that. I prefer to be non aggressive early in the game, and it's almost impossible at that level. That's been my complaint about the AI from the very start. It's certainly an American view of the world. If you don't have a strong military, they all just attack you even if you are t
