Freya: I know there is talk of some new races and ships, but Frogboy has also said the main new addition it the scenario/map editor. If I'm not interested in the latter, and at the time of delivery the added races or ships (and others) doesn't seem that exciting to me, then I won't be interested. That's all I'm saying, as that's what this thread was originally about. Why would someone say maybe... Looking at the plans for the expansion pack, I'm not sure I'm interested

I started at the lowest setting because at first I couldn't figure out how to play the game effectively. Then I upped the level each game until I won one at Maso. Having found that so difficult that I didn't have much fun, I lowered it a few levels and continued to play at a level I thought was more enjoyable. So I fit exactly into one of the categories originally described. Then I took a few months off... So when I came back I lowered it some more. I decided I needed to learn how to fi

Really, like what? I'm not sure I'd be interested in that at all. I'm not really interested in scenarios at all personally. Not sure why I'd want a map editor either. I like having random maps. So I guess I just don't fall into the target audience for this expansion pack then. I'd be more interested in seeing things that enhance the existing game. i.e. more races, more ships, completely new stuff I can't think of, but maybe you can, etc... map/scenario edito

First of all, I would hope any fix type things go to all the people who already have GalCiv for free. I've been very insulted in the past with companies who tried to sell "fixes" as an added upgrade. As for new features that might get my attention as someone who is slowly losing interest in GalCiv. More ships, maybe option to customize ships, new races. I think you see a trend. If I'm going to shell out more money, I want NEW features, not just fixing what is already there. <br

Give me a break. Obviously there are many reasons someone would choose maybe, or probably not. First of all, we can see that simply by the fact maybe is the 2nd most chosen answer, and also my answer to the poll. Why did I answer maybe? I like GalCiv, but over time, it's losing it's lustre in my eyes. This is nothing new and is not meant to insult the game. This happens with every game I buy eventually. In fact GalCiv has probably kept my attention longer than most. So would I

Hockey season starts tomorrow. I don't know about the rest of you, but this isn't the only game I own. Right now, I'm enjoying WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne, Rise of Nations and Port Royale. Unfortunately, Galactic Civilizations has dropped out of sight for me, for the time being anyway.

Why did this get so political... Always a bad idea, especially in a forum meant for a game that has left most of you locked in your rooms playing for hours on end. What do you know about the world? :-) That's a joke by the way... I did laugh when someone said that power was out in "southern" Canada. What an interesting concept. That's quite a stretch of territory! Of course as everybody probably know now, it was just most of Ontario which is tightly linked with the USA's power grid.

What is it with GROSS anyway? They seem like people who really like the sound of their voice, or in this case the look of their characters? Got to give them credit though, they really rack of the scores even while blabbering in every thread in the forum! :-) I don't know about other people, but Galactic Civilizations isn't the only game I own, and frankly I'm getting a little tired of it now. I'm sure my interest will be re-energized when they release the expanded universe to

Why are people offended that they can choose to be a beta tester by paying, but get the same product within a couple months for free if they don't pay? I mean for a lot of game companies, you can not choose to be a beta tester, you have to be selected. I am NOT a Drengin.net subscriber. I'm happy to let others eliminate some of the bigger bugs while I wait.

We are too polite to polute all the discussion groups talking about ourselves. Our empire name makes it clear who we are. Canadians can clearly see us, and we're an open group, so there is no need to constantly search out new members. Our sudden growth may have also been influenced by the end of hockey season(s). We'll slow down again in September as we start playing and watching hockey again...

Well what interesting timing. Today is Canada Day, for at least part of the day, we are the #1 Empire in the Galaxy! Be afraid, for we may yet unleash our most devastating weapon yet. The concentrated Celine Dion audiotronic Cannon. Able to blast her screaching to the far corners of the galaxy!

Wow, I went away on a 3.5 week vacation, and when I come back, my fellow Canadian have driven our empire way up there. Way to go guys! I guess I should start playing again soon, I'm becoming the weak link of the team. :-)

That is cool. I personally think the Senate over-ruling you is bogus anyway. If you want to do it, you'll find away. You could also simply insult them so bad they get angry and start a war with you. I think you should be able to over-ride the Senate in exchange for a temporary morale hit.

I think I'm in a vast minority here, but I would say I pay the tribute about 50-60% of the time. Although I agree that if the computer is demanding tribute, your best bet is to determine why, and fix it, so it doesn't happen continually. That is, increase trade with him, increase your military spending, etc... I try to avoid wars a lot, so I often pay tribute, plus in my better games I have such a strong economy the tribute is often small to me. In some of my better games I've

Odd that there is no choice for something like "I don't have any other software from Stardock, and am not interested." It assumes you either have it, want it, or don't know about it. There is no choice for knowing about it but not interested.

It's been said before, but how you win is also very important. I.e. in my last game, I finished beyond human and scored 1471. I went back to a save game 7 turns earlier, gave 3 planets away to the Torians to get him to sign the alliance, and scored 3572 for the alliance victory. I obviously had less planets and population in the latter but scored more than double anyway because it wasn't a Beyond Human win. This basically means there you don't want to win with Beyond Human (at

The people voting for the top 2 choices clearly cheated. I find it exctremely difficult to believe we had 160 people who voted, and almost entirely for 2 chocies over a couple days. We may revisit the empire name in a few more months, and I'll ensure there is no cheating next time. For now, it will do.
