If they aren't at close, a gift of a few thousand BCs for an insanely long period (doesn't matter since the game will be over) will usually put them there.
I can't believe I didn't think of that! :-)
For example, you can make a culture into a military victory by unchecking all the types of victories, leaving only military victory.
That's a pretty lame way to win by military means. I'll have you know I turn my cultural victories into military victories, by at least destroying the last sector with a military! :-)
Excuse my ignorance, but I keep hearing the term, and don't know what it means. What is a 4x game?
When you are not interested in "The political machine" and some pointless minigames Stardock is releasing time by time you should only preorder AP instead of subscribing the whole drengin.net.
That's what I was going to do, but I decided all those games which have less appeal than GalCiv combined are probably worth $15, which is the difference in price between buying AP or upgrading GalCiv to Drengin.net. I have to admit, Political Machine looks like it could be
Paguma, to whom did you send an email. I have pre-ordered the AP cd, but am considering subscribing to Drengin.net. I will not do it if I still have to pay for my AP cd, obviously.Thanks.
I sent email to as is listed on the website. I had not already ordered AP, however I'd guess since they have not shipped it yet, they'll likely let you switch, since it means more money and less work for them. Like I said, they were very quick in responding.
I was told by someone at Stardock sales (in email) that once your Drengin membership expired you'd still be able to download bug patches for games you had installed prior to your membership expiring. You would NOT be able to download new (non-free) expansions or new games, of course. That's what I wanted to know, and obviously that's fair. So I guess I'll buy Drengin.net instead of AP. I think Political Machine will be worth the difference.
or possibly have it scaled by map size/difficulty.
Starbases are not the only thing that should be scaled to map size. I personally find it weird that you are limited to 10 trade routes on both a Tiny and a Gigantic map.
I got a CTD but unfortunately not sure what caused it... I noticed that if you DON'T select auto-launch ships, but still set a waypoint, the ship will be auto-launched anyway. Of course, I'm not sure why you'd want to have a way-point without auto-launch. I think if you unselect auto-launch it should probably clear the waypoint. There was some other problem I can't remember now, I'll try to write them down as I find them now. :-)
To people who are interested how their score is calculated. I created a servlet that calculates your score from your metaverse submissions using the formula Primipilus Alexus has published. Now, it's still a work in progress, and may have some problems, but you can try it out here: http://paguma.no-ip.org/galciv/galtest.html It'll even calculate your new hypothetical scores if you submitted a game with X points on a hypothetical date. You should know
I saved the last stand-alone patch they put out, but I think it was 1.10.
The undead get their 2nd Admiral... The race is on for our first Fleet Admiral. Although I'll likely hit the points before Technician, he's already got the required games submitted and I'm way off on that one!
I always wanted to be poplar in High School!
I wonder if it's an Excel version issue? I'm using Excel 2002. Odd because it screws up consistently on certain lines. If I enter it backwards it'll appear correctly. Other times, regardless of how I enter it, it appears the same. I can switch day/month and it still appears the same. That's just freaky!
Has anybody else had problems with the spreadsheet screwing up the dates? I entered all the dates using month/day/year as appeared by default in the add form, yet, in my rows sometimes they are listed day/month/year, other times month/day/year. I think it's confusing the rest of the calculations because I get a lot of negative numbers, and my metaverse data says I have a score of 20! Woohoo!
according to the diplomacy screen the Torians were getting 102% of their income from trade with me
That has to be a government statistic! :-)
Then the Yor did the great invert alignment trick; demonic to saintly in 1 month. Strangely they remained allies (for a while).
I don't know what the trick is to change alignmnents, but I keep alliances with evil races all the time, and I'm always good. In fact, I find the Drengin make great allies. They like to fight, I don't. I'm course, our ultimate destinies don't lie together, and our alliance will end when it's no longer convinient. :-)
In reality thouhg the game is trying to be fun not realistic
They seem to be inconsistent on this one.
Yes, I do that to the AI all the time. Wait until they have a huge military, then culture flip their planets. No one to pay taxes, and they don't seem to ever disband military units, so they go hopelessly into debt.
i play cakewalk difficulty
Why would you play cakewalk more than once? I can understand once or even twice just to learn how to manage your own empire without interuptions. There is virtually no opposition from the AI though, that has got to get boring pretty quick.
i've always wondered why the races don't have the negative 500BC safeguard that the humans have to avoid getting into ridiculous debt....
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think they'll only give you money if they currently have a positive cash flow. The problem is, they'll give you more money over time than they can afford and end up going into debt. Although I wish the aliens were smarter in higher level games rather than just turning it off. The inability to sell stuff i
Maybe I'm way off track here, but to me, there is a very simple solution to this problem. If you aren't building anything, then you get bonus credits rather than wasting the resources. I read here about the rent and layoffs etc... and although that makes sense, when designing a game you have to balance between realism and fun. This doesn't sound like the kind of thing anybody wants to worry about. We don't worry about the difficulty of hiring new employees instantaneously, or r
How come I don't have any goon!? I want a goon! :-)
This is one of those long standing annoyances for me... Although the point that it bothers me most is late in the game when I'm conquering alien worlds. They tend to raze their own planets when they know I'm coming and I need to rebuild the infrastructure. Unfortunately, all my own planets are already all built up, so if I allocate money to social I'm wasting lots, and it's a real pain to visit each planet individually to buy the upgrades.
Someone in my empire thread suggesting cancelling my auto pilots and running a couple of turns. I was sceptical, but one of those autopilot moves must have been triggering whatever event was crashing me, because when I did that it actually stopped the crash. Of course, I unfortunately found out I was not in as good of a position as I thought I was in the game. :-)
That's why I'm torn. Of course, I'm assuming that when I bought GalCiv I'd get bug fixes for free, maybe that assumption is wrong too. That's the way it works with every other company I know. Of course, some of them stop releasing bug fixes after awhile... GalCiv has more bugs at this state than most game, HOWEVER, that's because they kept adding new functionality when most companies would have stopped.
