Games are for fun. In general, my own feeling on "gaming honor"--in single-player--is that I use as few exploits as possible to still come away with a victory. Generally that means none. But while I don't like using exploits--I agree with Sirian, they encourage mental laziness--I also dislike losing. I'll lose it gracefully in multiplayer but in single-player I don't see any reason to eat a loss that I know I could avoid. I can learn from my mistakes AND reload from a loss. And there's no ethica
Suddenly i`ve been attacked even by my good friends!! Makes it quite difficult to submit points to surport the Republic! Anybody able to tell me how this is possible AND swich it off.
AIs are now sensitive to your military ships parked in neighboring sectors, not just those parked in their own sectors. This is probably the cause of those wars.
I the only one old enough to remember the Trade Federation? I recall us beating them...
It might be better if we could all go on pretending that Episode I never existed... Also, Intergalactic Mining was a far more effective evil empire than Darth Sidious's ever was. You Sith should watch out! [Message Edited]

For advice on which improvements to build, you might want to look at this thread on the GC strategies forum: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GS&id=78358#80621 I don't agree with all of it but it's generally good. In general, which improvements are worthwhile will depend on what kind of game you're playing.
just how useful are "guards" on a terror star or starbase? In other words, does a guard ship defend first, or can the enemy zap the base while ignoring the ship?
This was posted somewhere before... the ships with the highest attack values are attacked first. If two ships have the same attack value... then I don't remember. But anyway, starbases are attacked last, after any military ship, since they have 0 attack. I don't know what the order would be for nonmilitary ships
But I don't know that it really solves anything, since you can simply leave your ships at home, massed in your own sectors, until you are ready to attack.
Something that worked in past versions (I haven't checked it for 1.12) was that as long as the ship was on autopilot away from the alien territory, it didn't complain--even if the ship was in the alien's sector. You could really abuse this by moving your fleet next to the alien world, using up all the movement points, t

Welcome back Matthew! And good story! I enjoyed the the second LOTR movie, but not as much as the first. This was mostly because I intensely disliked how Peter Jackson handled the Ents, which may have been my favorite part of TTT the book. I'm definitely looking forward to ROTK, though, and will probably see it as soon as it comes out. (Here, that's the 17th.)

Hmm... seems like you do almost what I do in the mopping up stage. If you have a slow computer, this might contribute to the mop-up stage taking a lot longer for you. There's a vast difference in the game's crispness between when I play at work and when I play on my home computer--everything's literally twice as fast at work, or even better in the late game.
Even parking a single transport adjacent to one of their sectors can trigger a war, although moving through does not seem to do so.
I noticed this too, and was pleased. The Altarians went to war from "friendly." Then I noticed that they seem to declare war even if the transport isn't within their sensor range. That was less pleasing. (I had Eyes of the Universe and could check every ship in the area.) Welcome back, Matthew! I always enjoy your stories.<b

On the off-chance that Stardock is paying attention, I'm going to agree that diplo picks are by far the strongest and should either be nerfed or made more expensive. I think most top players agree on this--I've seen a whole lot of people make comments to this effect. Just don't overnerf!

There's no empire that's "officially" Good. However, since Good is the dominant alignment in the Metaverse, most empires end up with mostly Good players. Many people have thought that an all-Good empire would be fun to form, but no one's actually gone and started one yet. Maybe you could?
Is there an Empire where the members do not swear all the time
There's really very little swearing overall. You'll be fine in any empire.
