Glad to hear things went well, Theoden. SpecFor is close indeed--Jeff Desilva joining gave them a big bump.

You need to be online when you finish the game. After the section when it tells you your military, social, etc. score, it will give you the option to submit.

Has everyone seen Brad's news item on the expansion? http://www.galciv.com/index.asp?action=full&NewsID=424 Looks exciting!

Yeah, when the AI is strong they will throw their weight around. It used to be that if someone declared war on you, you could bribe all the other AIs to go to war with the strong one so that on average only 1/5 of their transports headed your way (basically harmless) but thankfully that loophole is closed. Now I think your way is probably safest--kiss up to them until they piss off everyone else, so you get all their trade. You can help the process along by bribing them to attack everyone else,
Wombat and others, Perhaps I am merely displaying my ignorance here. But don't you see a tradeoff between graphics and strategy in that a game with great graphics must therefore force the user's computer to devote more time to those graphics, and therefore the AI can't spend as much time thinking about its strategy? Or are the two processes independent?

nope. wormholes are not a part of this game, unfortunately. The tech just has that name to make it sound interesting. [Message Edited]
Btw, if you're looking for variety, a really hard way to play is you versus one Incredible AI.
More of a late early game strategy. Since you have will have cash to burn with your many trade routes and only one planet, you can buy a bunch of weak ships (star fighters or something) whose military strength is effectively tripled by a decked-out military starbase. You might even have enough money to buy the constructors, too. Also, since you will no doubt be doing a lot of tech trading, you can often trade for those weak ships when dealing with the civs that are behind in the tech ra
I'm probably like a broken record here, but Starcraft, even in single-player, is really good. A lot of people really like Age of Wonders, which is a mix of RPG and TBS. I don't know anything about AoW 2, so it may require 3D acceleration, but AoW 1 definitely didn't. It can be played multiplayer. I'm sure you've played Civ, MOO, etc. Hmm... if I think of something else I'll let you know.
Cypher: what kind of games? I spent a couple hours on Yahoo Chess last night. That was a lot of fun.
I think by the time some other empire manages to crack 3 million (should be a few weeks), I'll be ready to fight again! My guess is I'll be stopping video games entirely, and spending my time reading science fiction. But we'll see.
A suggestion. In one-sector games, you can vastly boost your military rating in the early game using a starbase with those very rarely used military modules.
I like the Flash Theoden, and I love your MR pics as always. It looks like my GOTM file got corrupted somehow... I replaced the original game.galaxy file (with the correct serial number) and it still won't work. I wonder how I screwed up. I'm really not feeling any motivation to work on it though... I think I need a bit of a vacation from Galciv entirely.
I think all Sirian was doing was noting a trend, not making an iron-clad rule. I can understand Hiram's irritation, since a lot of TBS gamers do seem to come off as rather snobbish and dismissive of other genres. Starcraft was an RTS but it was imo more deep and strategic than Galciv. I guess I can see how someone who only played the campaigns, and never multiplayer, might disagree, but really that's their fault for not knowing the game well enough.
Carielf,
I'm not sure why the population would still be attached to the colony or transport ships, because it's supposed to dump the population back into the system.
It's not still "attached." I think the orbiting ship carries the amount of pop that it would have if it were auto-launched. This makes invasions MUCH easier.
Are you saying that any race can research the alignment restricted techs, or that they can trade for them?
<b
Hi folks, I've been out of touch these past few days because of a really nasty cold. Anyway, I probably won't be posting much for the next several days as well.
What he means is that if you get too rich too early in the game, ie by trading stuff to aliens for cash, then you may get an anomalous score.
That's a very amusing bug.
Edit: may be the best tiny maso strategy yet.
Except that the aliens get a big PQ bonus :( [Message Edited]
Well, in my eyes the main issue here isn't the Metaverse, which is just a secondary consideration. The main issue is the fact that the AI is utterly helpless against a cultural assault. This makes the actual game much less challenging and interesting.
I will try it. But I'm certain it's not just luck. This just got posted an hour ago (in the Fellowship thread) and already two other people have said they've seen this behavior.
Oddly, it seems that the only UP events that ever come up are the tax on war and the "which planet shall get to host the UP for a 50% influence bonus."
Thanks for the comments everyone. Congrats on the game, Smeagol.
The UP votting was always 1 of 2 laws up for debate... the tax on war.. and who's be the focal point for the UP.. these came up many times but no others..
Now THAT is strange. I had those two events come up a whole lot as well. (Not sure if it was every time... but it was a lot.)
