Yeah, one on one with the AI is rough. I don't know what to tell you other than not to let it happen in the first place. :notsure: I responded to your post on freighters in the maso strategies thread btw. [Message Edited]

I typically have enough money that I don't worry that the trade routes don't pass through my main financial center. The main thing, for me, is that I want those trade routes established as early in the game as possible, and trading for freighters is the best way to do that imo. The other thing you can use them for is to quickly establish contact with distant civilizations. You figure out where a distant civ is using influence, then trade for a ship which happens to be in that area, usin
Should I take these suggestions as expressions of interest?
Sounds like bad luck to me. I haven't noticed this sort of pattern at all.
I'd start a game and save it on the first turn, and then put the save game on a web site for people to download. Everyone downloads and plays the same game. Of course, I'd test the game out to make sure the start wasn't absurdly good or bad. There are two nice things about this format. One is that it helps people learn from each other. If you and, say, Ray the Wanderer end up in the exact same situation, you can compare the way you dealt with it to the way he dealt with it, and
One of the internet's great gems.
I agree with Cypher.
I am toying with the idea of reviving the Galciv GOTM, if there is sufficient interest. How many people think they would participate? I would probably make two games. One would be maso and designed to be a challenge for even the most hardcore players. The other would be for the non-Masochistic and would have AI at, say, bright. Afterward, people could discuss how they responded to the challenges posed by the game, and hopefully learn from each other. I haven't thought too much
About the 1 IP gifts. I do see this as a bug, because you get something for nothing. Imagine if you could hit control-I and improve relations with all the AIs, without penalty to his civilization or to his score. If some player found that such a cheat code was active, it would universally be considered a bug. Gifting single influence points is completely equivalent to this--there is absolutely no difference from a gameplay standpoint, not that I can see anyway. Gameplay is about tradeof
Great! I'll post something more public to guage interest.
For you people with joeuser blogs--can you put files on their site? If I did a GOTM I'd need somewhere to put the saves.
Hey Jexal, welcome to the Fellowship!
JNighthawk, your planet might have been overpopulated. The other factors mentioned in this thread, in conjunction with overpopulation, lead to low morale.
got it! : VOMIT : :VOMIT: [Message Edited]
Also, giving gifts improves relations more if you have higher diplomacy skill.
Tried :vomit: and failed. Hmm... [Message Edited] [Message Edited]
Ouch Rick, you were *so* close to 60K. So you got to about 60K without being the dominant power? Intersting. Did you get most of the wonders though?
and you can't be at war with anyone else, and I *think* that there's some minimum time that must have passed since the start of the game. Not sure about that last though.
I've had invisible planets, too.
Yeah, that 3 million isn't so far off! Jexal, welcome! Rick, my last several games have been with all AIs at pure evil.
The Kwalasians (sp?) seem to always appear on gigantic maps, and they seem to always evolve into the I-league. The Furan are another terrorist race not yet mentioned. Dread Lords, Draginol, and Dark Arnor are supposed to be powerful evil forces that will dominate the galaxy if left unchecked. I say "supposed to be" since if the player is prepared he can extort enormous amounts of money from them. Whole bunch of others too.
Nice! Tiny map, what star abundance?
Last Kid Picked is really funny.
Huh, domestic trade ships are a really really good idea.
Oh, and thanks for the mods Nand1!
