Master of Orion strikes me to a degree, as a chess game. There are clear, definite consequences to decisions. One can set the game on "Impossible" and expect a good, but often quite winnable game (though the endgame AI is weak). One can prioritize needs and take appropriate actions. Colonizable systems out of range? Perhaps put heavy resources into quickly developing propultion technology to increase range. As the game progresses one sees clearly his/her progress. Ah, yes, thanks. I noticed that "Social Production" and "Research" are considered to have expenses (which are stated), and that the total of the Military Production, Social Production, and Reasearch expenses, and the maintenance costs of the various improvements, does add up to the total expense for the planet. I had thought that "expense" was an overhead amount, but, it includes overhead (maintenance) and production. Thanks!

I am attempting to examine the "overhead" costs for my planets. I note that, often, the "expenses" for a planet exceeds the "maintenance" cost for the planet, even if no credits are being spent on propaganda, and nothing is being built on that planet. The "maintenance" costs are itemized, but what is "expenses"? I wish to lower them, but can't without knowing what they are. Thanks

I can see my income and my expenditures, but where is the amount of money in my treasury? Is there such a concept? The manual states that "At -500 bc(billon credits) spending on planets stops". I presume that this it a treasury amount (I suppose the goverment sells bonds or something to acheive a deficit), and not a per turn income minus expenditures amount.

Is there an intention to put out some real documentation? What is supplied is so incomplete, it's hard to believe it wasn't a hit or miss collection put together at the end because the documenters were trying to document a moving target, with the intention of supplying full documentation later. It's not that sentences are poorly worded, it's just that the documentation is SOO incomplete.

Thank you for your help. As for the "Find" button, I have no ships on sentry or guard, but the Find button consistently fails to find my survey ship. I am guessing that ships which have been given a route (are on auto pilot to a destination) move at the beginning of a turn, after the "turn" button has been pressed, rather than moving as the last part of the turn. In other words, if I am finishing turn N, and I click the "turn" button, the turn finishes, and then the shlps move for turn N+1. T

Well, the game looks Ok, but it's hard to judge so far. It has, in my opinion, possibly the worst documentation I've ever seen for a game. In the ship list, there is a blue arrow to the right of the ship name pointing up and to the right? What does that do? Why does the "find" button skip by ships which have movement left? How does one launch a ship if "auto launch" is off? I find the interface to often be rather unintuitive.
