There is more scrutiny going on here than with questionable statements and events in the actual real world! The bottom line is: What fun is cheating? For that matter; even if you're not cheating, what fun is the game if you just crank out 60k games with a formula? I enjoy every turn! I like watching my ships move through space, I like thinking over every turn and having a distinctly different experience every time I play. I didn't spend my money on the game simply to let it play by itsel

Thanks Carielf: YOU'RE THE BEST!
Quick question: What's the best way to install AP for those of us who ordered the CD. I downloaded the public Beta. Will the CD update GCAP 1.49 or shoud I just un-install and re-install from the CD? Thanx [Message Edited]
Empires Threads
And Empire threads ALONE (:( This used to be an involved community. Now, no affiliation no fun here. Oh well :notsure:
Anyone remember when this used to be a fun place? Anyone remember when people used to post here for the heck of it? Anyone out there?
I'm glad to see someone out here. I too doubt that the poll is giving the best advice. "Drengin.net" means something to players of the game; but is that who needs to remember it? the name MUST be meaningful to someone who doesn't play, so they don't have to try to remember "that really cool web-site with weird name."
Was there something I could have done to prevent the event
Abandoning the Colony is the only way I know of to avoid the Dread Lords once you see the message about the impending doom.
NEVER question The Dread Lords! :sniff!:
5c worth
Should that be 5bc's ?
I would love to see the major civs have the same name for their homestars every time. I know, this is small a dumb, but it just occured to me. Terrans always start on Earth around Sol, shouldn't the other races have self-named homeworlds? I would also like to see some more random events. Now there are events that raise PQ, add Hyper or Ultra techs, and so on. What about sudden disasters? One of your planets suffers a devistating hit from space junk, a ship has an engine malfunction and t
That would be the Fundie event
I think thats actually the Dread Lords event, isn't it?
I like the Fundimentalist event, but I do agree they should never be able to take every last planet. Evil gives you a lot of advantages, so be prepared for the risk!
there's way too many first-person shooters
Oh, how I agree. What we need is a Space-Based turn-based RPG. That, and I'd love for someone to develop R.E. Howard's "Hyboria" from his Conan novels. And, hey, how about a GOOD non-mmorpg Super-Hero based RPG! It's a shame how I never have an opinion, huh? :D
I wouldn't; in any discussion about a consumer product, discount the power of what is marketable. What configuration is technically best or most advanced means nothing when compared to which can be marketed and distributed most effectively. Lots of examples: Beta was a better system than VHS but most people say "what?" when you mention it; the seemingly eternal debate over PC vs. Mac; and, is the iPod really the best way to carry music around or just the coolest? The fact is: Most pe
I would love to do an isometric RPG like Baldur's Gate II someday
That would be SWEET! I'd love to help with concept!
At the very least, we should not be losing the number of games we've played. I should have about 37 games in and I've got 33, and I haven't submitted in a couple of weeks. It just can't be THAT hard to keep track of the number of games we've played. I can see the need for some degree of aging of games, but one of the attractions to the game for me was the addition of Metaverse play. Let's hear a little from our Avatars.
I just don't see this as a multi-player game. I know a lot of people expect a multi-player aspect from every game these days, but some games just don't call for it. So, let's say ship design, but as a branch on the tech tree.(i.e. the more you research, the more design aspects you control)
I think it may be possible to use transports to shift population around. I really don't remember, I usually use my overpopulated planets to produce combat transports, so I'll always have a force ready. Anyone know if I'm right about the transports?
Hey! The same thing happened to me! I just thought I was crazy! Anyone else?
Hey Genghis Hank: Philly! Home of the cheese-steak; a heart-attack on a roll. :d
My Fellow GalCivilians: I seem to have been locked out of the newest poll! I have not been given my vote! They have tried to silence my voice! But I WILL be heard! So many have given so much so that I may rant and rave here today! I urge you; my fellow players, to raise your voices in protest! DO NOT LET THIS INJUSTICE STAND! YOUR voice may be the next to be taken! :sniff!: BTW: Got AP beta & I'm lovin' it. P.S. Sorry, the Primary Elections are tomorrow here in Pennsylvan
Would you guys please Please PLEASE develop an isometric traditional RPG
I concur!!! What I like about this game is that I feel as if I'm playing something that was developed by Gamers, not some faceless corporate 800lb Gorilla. I really get the feel of how much everyone involved at the company sees this as their "baby". It ups the quality of the game and the originality that goes into it. Can you feel the love? :)
This is it :D
