Oh wow, im sorry for invadvertantly knocking your achievement :( I spend way to much time playing games and have been number one on many rating systems most of which had vastly larger playing populations then this one. Er I better shut up though before people start thinking im arrogant. I am, I just dont want people thinking it ;)

Anyway, I was number 13 before that game, not like I earned the grey metal with it :) I got 13 without any milking at all!
I dont deserve to be number one, nor would I want to be number 1 in a system that rewards boring game play. That would mean I played the most boring games of everyone. :) And that sounds boring! Perhaps when the system is fixed it might be worth getting number 1, my only interest right now is in generating dialogue to help concince the developers that some issues need fixing. If in the end I fail to get this address perhaps I will play another gam
You are pissing all over me because you identify me with those abusers who screwed with the system causing the developers to nerf some little piece of it in a way that you found annoying. This is both unjustified and pardon me bluntness, ignorant. You can't claim to not care about the integrity of the metaverse scoring system, as that is all that you seem to be able to mention. Actual game balance apparently has no truck wtih you, that influence
I apologize if these are known, but here are a few things I have noticed. When starting a new game, or reloading a game. The initial blue grid that represents your range is from the previous game. This is most evident when starting a new game, as the blue grid is centered on your previous start, not your current start. No real effect on game play. When loading pop onto combat transports I noticed that when I load 5 billion pop, the 'system pop' n
I had trouble getting it to work for me, it took me awhile to figure out what I was doing wrong, though sadly I can already tell that this isnt your problem. In my case, hitting submit did nothing because I had not registered for metaverse. I had assumed either the game would register me when I hit submit or prompt me to register, or warn me that I needed too. It did nothing and my score didnt show. So I registered to the web site, and that allowed me to
I tend to just pay the bribes and trade like hell. I dont even build a military until I have dreadnoughts and even then its rather small and just for show.
I get better scores at the highest difficulty, not sure I can agree that the current system discourages higher difficulty. Clearly your other points are valid though. It needs a lot of help right now
Ellestar, when you say you did not submit your score because you were told its unfair, that is what I was refering to. I obviously did submit my score. As for your munckin skills, by all means own them :) Though im not sure that you do :) I was 1 turn from final frontier when I shut down research in Jan 2194 with 5559.3 trillion I had every yellow star system colonized already except the 2 remaining ememy stars and about 90% of the systems tha
In my other thread, I suggest using PQ as the indicator which demonstrates galactic conquest without being milkable through just using end turn. Some milking is possible through setting up a few extra colonies, but its minimal and at least your working at something for it. We fundementally agree Cataleptic, I dont think what I did should even have been possible. My issue is that some would say the fault is mine for having done it where I would say the
I guess I did not explain my issue well enough. My first masochistic game, I got 3000 or so for my 1 trillion result where I was the 4th civ on the power scale. I techinically won, but through a cheap tech victory and my relative lack of pop was reflected in the score quite correctly. My 2nd masachistic win, I took over the entire galaxy and ended up with 5 trillion people, this took a ton more 'skill' and effort on my part, and was quite a bit tou
Btw, the system I refer to is the metaverse, not Galciv, which as a stand alone game is unconcerned with how the metaverse score is calculated.
What is fair, by my ethical standards, what I did was fair. My issue with it is not that I played unfairly but that the scoring system rewards boring, trivial game play. When such a systematic problem exists, the fault lies with the system, not the users of that system. Your comments lead me to believe you think otherwise. I could go on for a long time on theory about why systems that do not protect themselves from abuse will always be abused and why
To ellestar. In reference to problem 4(pop problem) Your proposed counter solution demonstrates why such a solution wont work. You propose capping the pop calculation at 1 trillion. In my first masochistic win, I dived straight to beyond human without even trying to dominate the galaxy and managed to get almost 1 trillion people in my little corner, even though by all counts, the 3 incrediable computers were head(by obscene margins) of me in
An idea I just had for scoring. Instead of looking at the population, look at the number and quality of planets a person posses. There is a direct relation between population and planet quality the only difference is that population takes a long time to reach its potential. Some might argue then that PQ racial bonus would translate directly into a higher score, but it already does given that it already directly translates into a higher pop.
DikDirk. After playing that game, I better apperciate your point of view, well put :)
Your 2nd post came after I applied my first response. We are talking about two different things I believe. I am talking about nerfing influence within the game, as it is far to strong, regardless of how you try to win the game. You are talking about the scoring system cultural victory being made worthless due to how easy it is to win by influence, hence my changes would make a fairly worthless win condition even harder to achieve. Your poi
Right, my fixes are aimed at the abuses, that was the point of them..... I used to play test games for a living, game theory and finding and preventing abuses comes kinda natural to me. Anyway, you reference to cultural influence as a victory condition, which suggests to me that you missed the point entirely, I am perhaps to long winded for my own good. The point of nerfing influence isnt to nerf the victory condition, but to nerf its capacity to captu
1. You dont need a majority(having more then all others combined) to control the senate you just need a plurority(having more then anyone else). If you have control but graphically it appears some other group does, then this is a minor cosmetic bug in the display. You cant switch government types, either you are in control and gain your prescribed bonuses or you lose them and get some penalities as well. 2. If you lose control, improving morale
I had this happen with a single save, didnt check the other saves before I just rebooted my machine and then the original saved worked fine. So did you try rebooting?
+20 pop growth +2 speed Populest(20 morale, 20 diplomacy) Gigantic universe, abundent good planets, tight clusters 3 civs I dont like(the warlike ones) I made incrediable, pure good. The stupid civs, I made geniuses pure evil. I hit control N alot(restart the game for a specific starting position) I know some people think this is lame, but i get bored really fast with a bad start and I play for fun too, you have your way, I have mine. The
This may be a long post, I tend to be long winded but I will try this time to be very concise. :) I recently finished a game that I think demonstrates some rough edges in the logic for the scoring system. My score was 23232 using version 1.035. Which is about 10k more then the next highest score im aware of in any version. Before I get into how I got this score, I will first list some balance concerns I have. Problem 1. It is far to easy
Er, when I say everything I had to trade, I mean technologies and trade goods only.
I have gotten a system from the AI that I wasn't at war with. It was the indepdent league who had two star systems. I had a rather large fleet just outside their big star system, and before I attacked I offered them everything I had in trade(which was a ton) for the 2nd system that was on the complete opposite side of the map from me(and the system I was about to invade). They accepted :) and then ceased to exist a few seconds later. F
Earlier versions gave more points for the same victory then do more recent versions. This is a known 'problem' and apparently they will recalc the scores at some point. Though the previous commenters are correct, as if you look at the number 2 player, he is still scoring over 10k using the current released version. One method of getting a high score is this. Win by tech victory with a very very large pop on a very large map with lots of com
