On the map Cygnus, which is used in ranked multiplayer, the starting positions are not even. In this case, I am specifically referring to the difficulty of initial expansion. From the upper right starting position, it is easy (~5 seconds to spare) to cap both a radioactive and a metal region prior to creeps appearing. From the lower left starting position, I honestly believed it was not possible until my opponent managed to do so in a match last night. With the recen

Like any good strategy game, Ashes takes a little effort to learn in order to be any good at it. There is no shame at sucking initially, but don't blame it on the game. The missions are really quite trivial to an experienced player.

Often when I attempt to play a ranked match, it appears that a match is make but then an error indicates either that my opponent left, or that I was unable to connect. This happens regularly, including tonight. And now, in mid-match, just when I was holding my own against muffincat for the first time ever (and probably not for long, but hey) it told me that the connection was interrupted, and no longer able to connect to steam, and the match ended. It also said that I won,

My keyboard (Corsair K70) has a volume control wheel (similar to many "multimedia" keyboards). If I attempt to adjust the volume during the opening video, it detects the input and aborts to the welcome message with the main menu behind. Not really a big deal. However, during the tutorial and campaign missions, when the dialog is presented giving instructions, the wheel is also treated as input and will skip through the entire dialog in a hurry. It seems like some filte

I do occasionally get into modes like you described where I can't seem to select units despite drawing a selection rectangle around them, although it seems pretty rare. More frequently, the game seems to fail to register a click after a hotkey, and then I can't select units until I complete or exit that operation somehow. It IS quite annoying when it happens. I think that the explanations here <a href="https://forums.ashesofthesingularity.com/476839/page/1/#3630891

I don't know that I would call it a bug. There are two different numbers - the demand you have scheduled, versus the actual resource net consumption. If you have resources banked, those numbers are equal. If you run out of something, you want to know how oversubscribed you are - not that your net is 0, so it's showing the right thing. The only case where you really want to know the actual net is when you are oversubscribed on the opposite resource, but it could
1. I had an ally use the Carving Turret orbital next to a base of mine that had repair drone bays. The drone bays enabled the Carving Turret to stay alive indefinitely (did not disappear after its timer was up) by healing it. I am unsure if the Carving Turret kept the ability to attack as the base was not attacked again during the game.
I've had medics heal a carving turret before, keeping it alive indefinitely. I haven't seen th

Played a couple times last night... I think I like it, even though I failed miserably to adapt. That new engineer cost... it probably helps to keep expansion in check, but losing one hurts.

I think the T1 nerf and Zeus buff will allow an early upgrader to more effectively withstand/counter a T1 bum-rush. I like that. And as others have pointed out, the extractors will be more important. There will be less advantage to dispatching combat units to claim territory without engineering support, and it will be easier to penalize players who expand without defending what they've taken. This is pretty much what we were asking for in the other thread, and I

I agree that rapid expansion is necessary. The way I lose the most often is by not expanding as fast as my opponent (and not knowing how to counter that rapid expansion). Other times I make some sort of blunder. And sometimes I get beat on strategy. But mostly... it's the speed of expansion that determines my games. BTW, Shutdown has clobbered me every time I've played him. I don't suck, but there are a few guys that really have my number, and

I just ran through the tutorial for the first time (because why not?). And then I jumped into a ranked match. I was paired with Skully, but there were two very interesting problems: First, my name showed up (to me) as Neophyte, and Skully showed up as "Haalee AI". Ok, not a huge problem, but confusing. Second, I started without an engineer. I was able to build one and continue the game, but I was still rather surprised by this. I'm not sure, b

A couple times as I've been maneuvering units toward an enemy's base, I have seen the other player's rally point render momentarily. I presume this happened at the time the rally point was set. The areas where this happened were also covered by fog at the time (as I didn't actually have units terribly close yet).

I agree that PHC medics need balanced (I had a short post suggesting as much yesterday). I experimented a little bit more with them last night and I'm even more confident of that now. At one point I had a small squad of mostly T1 marching into an AI substrate base, and a turret was blasting away at one of my medics in a futile effort to do damage. I'm not sure that less powerful healing is the answer, though. The medics should remain relevant when grouped wit

I agree some sort of notification on start would be nice... maybe even a 20 second pre-match hold of some sort (that could be bypassed if both players hit 'go'). Also, I think my last four matches were all instant starts when joining the queue. I guess I finally got lucky!

The new level promised between Beginner and Easy seems like the most straightforward way to address this. But I do have a thought: Frogboy has previously explained that the AI in Ashes is non-cheating, in the sense that it doesn't know things that a player opponent wouldn't know. What if a "training" AI mode was created that DOES cheat, but only in a limited fashion so as to always present some degree of challenge but to not be dramatically stronger than the player?

Last night in a match, my opponent took control of a region, and I sent a small force to recapture it. I wasn't really paying attention when the units arrived because I had bigger problems elsewhere. A few minutes later, I went back to that region to see why it still wasn't mine, and I found that I had two squads of brutes, and I believe once each archer and hermes (but I can't swear to the exact count of archers/hermes). And my opponent had two medics. My

I've played a few matches with v0.94 and I can say that overall, the behavior with groups and armies is definitely improved. However, there are still some odd things happening. Periodically, when I add units to an existing army that is in a group, that group will vanish (the group, not the units). This seems to be especially true when I add the new units by selecting them, then right clicking on a unit that is a member of the army. It is still possible

The bomber issue was against a bot I believe. I did some more single player last night, trying to get better at substrate, and I had martyrs also refusing to move. Tried breaking the army, selecting units one at a time, etc. Nothing worked. Sometimes they might shift around in place a little, but they refused to actually travel.

So many things are going wrong with unit selection, grouping, and army formation that I don't even know how to tell the problems apart from each other. Before today's patch, I noticed a few things - but now it seems like a dozen. If I have two groups, and in each group I have all of the units in an army, then later I select all of the units and try to reassign them to one group it doesn't work. some of the units change groups, but not all. Sometimes unis

I like that we have multiple starting strategies, but I feel the same frustration that OP does: I commit to a strategy, my engineers show confirmation (blue path), and then stop in the middle of nowhere for no reason. Then I fail to get that second node, and I've wasted a lot of time. But I know it's possible to do because I've done it before! I wish it was straightforward (with low risk of failure) to execute a viable, chosen strategy so early in the game... a
That doens't really make sense. The AI rank itself wherever it ranks itself. What will happen is that good players will pass by where the AI players are and never match up with them anymore.
This must be somewhat dependent still upon the number of players. In Beta 1, I made it up to 2nd (or was it 3rd?) on the ladder and was still getting mostly bots. Some of them had high ra

Sometimes this can be an indicator that your graphics card is begging to physically fail - even if you aren't overclocking. If that is the case, there's a good chance you will see the problem get progressively worse. If you are able, you might try underclocking your card to see if that improves the situation.

Following the completion of a 2v2 custom match, which we won via victory points, when I returned to the game lobby the sound glitched with loud repeating sound (kind of a loud crunch sound). If I had to guess, it seemed like a soundbuffer was left looping. When I exited the lobby, the sound stopped.
