Andrew, I pulled in a score nearly that high yesterday with a cultural win in a medium galaxy and all AI on beginner. I was pretty surprised too. I've gotten the impression from some of the vets that speed of finish is an important factor and it sounds like your game was quick. Staffa and others noted in the thread I started yesterday "Metaverse scoring shock" that there are some issues like this (easier games getting better scores than hard fought games) yet seemed to agree that

CM, for what its worth, I believe you love this game, and I think most of your posts that I've read have been well-reasoned. Truth is, I think both sides are over-reacting here. Perhaps Brad's suggestion to let it drop is a good one, at least for a while. let things cool off. Give the devs a chance to investigate it. While they haven't come out and said they definitely will, I believe they will. Why? For one thing, this issue isn't completely trivial. More importantly, I think Br

Would you call 2199 fast? Heck, if I hadn't waited for the computer to start the resource grab first, it might have come sooner. Fortunately, I had built up a sizable treasury and bought starbases on the only two influence resources, which pretty much sealed things. I found it a bit surprising that the Torians (who didn't like me much) relinquished theirs so easily. I'm guessing a more intelligent AI level might not have been so helpful...

Well...I just finished my first game, playing on medium/tight clusters/all AI on beginner. I achieved a cultural victory in 2199. The game was a blast, in fact it was almost like two separate games (pre and post resource rush). Oddly enough, the Drengin and I started next to each other, so i thought they'd mop the place up with me, but we were on good terms the whole game. What I don't get is my metaverse score. Based on briefly looking at other folks scores, I expected s

Well said LDiCesare! Peter, you can cancel those routes anytime you like in the trade screen (Domestic Policy -> Trade) Yeah I'm playing with all AI on Beginner and I also had a big boon early in the game. I had fallen behind technologically while building Diplomatic Translators and at the first UP meeting a vote was made to give races with less tech 4 of them for free. Woohoo!

CM, That seems to be the most remarkable thing about this game, that it can vary so dramatically from one game to the next. Half the fun of this board is hearing about different things that happen to people, like the thread where the Independent league (which I haven't seen yet) eliminated all spacecraft not in orbit. It's amazing to hear people say things like "savor that, because you may never see it again" about a computer game.

Brad, Just to clarify (as a relative newbie), are you saying that a trade offer from human to AI that would have been accepted at time of release might now not be accepted due to changes in the AI because of human behavior, but that the AI might still make that same trade with another AI? Also, on the issue of "cheating", I think folks need to realize that this a very emotionally charged word, and clearly the dev team takes this seriously and a bit personally (which they are en

The idea I had had for this was a "priority" setting. The way this would work would be you could designate a direction for wasted input to go. That is, you have 100% military spending, but no military production on a particular planet, but you have research as a secondary priority. Or you have social as a secondary priority, then research as tertiary. This could even be implemented at the empire level, allowing you to continue doing research while still building important key project

I'm only playing my first game, but using similar settings (medium, simple, populists etc). I've had influence out the wazoo...controlling a good half the map before I had any starbases. I've built a lot of news networks, embassies, and those sorts of things. they're expensive to maintain, but cultural exchange centers are fantastic (increase star influence by 25%). I have also built a couple of wonders that help with influence (galactic exhibition and the restaurant one). Economic exchange

The races finally started getting feisty with each other, but it took a long time. Interestingly, it was right about the time everybody started scrambling to make starbases. I let a couple of resources get away from me when I could have nabbed them long before. Unfortunately what I really wanted was an influence boost, but the only two on the map were on the opposite side of the map. No one is coming near me yet. Anyway, I'm having fun with it. I had a Drengin planet flip to me and

Cool...I didn't know you could reduce the number of AI. thanks for the tip, Sigma. Norty, you can do this. I'm doing very well right now in my first game with all AI set to beginner on a medium map. Looks like I'm on my way to a cultural victory, but anything can happen. I'm *not* a strategy gamer in the slightest, so if I can do it, you can. I've yet to be attacked...heck the AI don't have any warships to speak of, so I have to wonder what you're doing. maybe the AI is too high?
