I haven't seen these either, but I believe that in more recent builds that some events like this do not show up on the lower difficulty levels.
I posted a similar idea last week, and feel there should be a penalty for this kind of redirection (production reduced maybe 20-25%), however, your idea of putting this option right into the build lists is *extremely* clever and simpler than what I had in mind.
I'd like to discuss the possibility of adding a new forum for empires. This forum would be used for recruiting new members, communicating with existing members, taunting other empires, etc. I think the empire concept is cool. I like that there are people that are taking active roles in their empires, and thus in the community as a whole. In short, I think the empire threads are worthwhile. On the other hand, it also seems to me that they can really clog the boards sometime.
Interesting read. Thanks for taking the time to type that out.
Bruce, I'm actually fooling around with Starhawks in a game. I'm playing tiny/rare and only have 3 planets (one of those formerly owned by the carinoids). My economy is awful so the Starhawks, with their zero cost to maintain might work nicely. I do have a lot of military bonuses, though, which beefs them up. I haven't played in a couple of days, but if I can get the Torians to work with me, I think we can make short work of the rest of the galaxy.
Thanks, I wasn't certain. It makes sense to me that if I'm going to give a tech away to one group, I might as well get what I can by selling it to the others.
This question got buried in a scoring discussion, so i thought I'd ask it here. In my current game I'm trying to make nice with the Torians (currently friendly). Does trading techs to other AI make people that don't like them unhappy? For example, if I give a tech to the Torians, then immediately sell it to the Yor and Drengin, does that defeat the purpose of giving the tech away (I'm assuming the Torians don't like them)? In my last game I traded with the Drengin a lot, and
Yes, you can find it at javascout's excellent page: http://webpages.charter.net/trevorpowdrell/ Look on the lower left where it says "research tree". it can be viewed online or downloaded in pdf form.
I think it depends on what stage of the game you're in and what kind of victory you're angling for. I think I might have traded them in a culture victory pretty late in the game.
Traded techs may be traded, you need not research it further to do so. If you receive a trade good in trade, it may *not* be traded by you. The culture that made it is the only source for it.
I did this recently on a medium/simple game with good diplomacy working for me. I want to say I paid maybe 6 or 7k for two different bases, btu i may have thrown in some tech, I can't recall.
Nico56, you are mistaken about that. You can, in fact keep those improvements if they are captured. You just can't build more than one yourself. I believe I read this even works if you capture the planet while it is in the process of building the improvement, it can continue to do so. See http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=33914
You know, doing research is cool, but you can see your score without submitting and screwing up your ranking (unless of course there is a problem that occurs during submission).
You know, I have always hated playing humans too, and usually avoid it whenever possible, but there are a lot of customization options. There are a fair number (about 8?) political parties, each of which gives different bonuses. You also get 10 ability points which you can use to beef up anything from your military to your diplomatic skills. It really is pretty flexible. It should also be noted that the fact that you are human is semi-integral to the backstory of the game and how it
My guess is that Stellar Cartography would be of more use on huge maps. Some people like to hit CTRL-N once the game starts to change their starting position. I think the random feature is nice, because if you want to challenge yourself with a bad start you can, or if you want to make sure you have a good start, you can do that too.
CM, Let me put this a different way, and a little more directly. Suppose you play a game on simple and thoroughly dominate econ, tech, mil etc. This was the greatest win you can conceive of at that difficulty level. For the sake of argument lets say that win is worth 2000 points. Now, in your opinion, relative to that score, what would a victory by the narrowest of margins be worth on crippling or masochistic? What about an equally successful victory at those diffi
Well, I believe that 95 happens to be the GoneGolders, which I joined because I never would have heard of GalCiv if it weren't for the forums over at GoneGold, where it has been very highly praised. Truth is, if you actually look at the numbers, the vast majority of members haven't posted any scores. True, the opportunity to exploit the metaverse through sheer numbers is there, but as others have said, that's part of the fun is recruitign people. One cool idea might be to have
I'll never play on the harder difficulty levels I assure you. I'm not good enough. But i agree with you CM that playing on those levels should be rewarded. Certainly, the maximum score achievable on the higher difficulty levels should be higher than when playing on a low difficulty. Maybe it is also unreasonable that barely winning a game on a hard difficulty should get a really big score, as that might be a sign to ramp things back a notch until you improve your tactics. That's int
Peter, I was messing around with this same thing just yesterday. The thing I think you have to keep in mind is that morale is a constant struggle. Anything you do to raise morale will increase your population, which in turn reduces morale. I'm no expert, but I would suggest if you know ahead of time you want to do something like this, consider taking a PQ bonus, but do not take population bonuses...in fact, you might even consider making choices on events or when colonizing that penal
I'm messing around with a tiny game right now. I started with the carinoids in my own sector and have captured the planet. Military victory is hard! I didn't want to trash the planet and I'm low on cash, so it took me 3 transports to take it out. For some reason, the Torians seem to like me, so I'm trying to butter them up into an alliance so they can help with the drengin and Yor. I took a bunch of military bonuses and am mining a military resource, so my ships are doing well. I'm
I don't know...it can actually be a pretty valuable piece of information when that resource disappears off the map.
How about telling us what the problem with Stardock is? maybe someone can help. I admit it is a bit awkward at first, but I had no real trouble getting it to work. Are you getting an error? Will it not run at all? Is the problem that you can't find the software?
Yellow's suggestion would be wonderful. I assumed this had probably been mentioned dozens of times, so never even thought to mention it. While I'm thinking about it, I'd love to see a way to automatically maximize income on the domestic policy tax rate slider.
Huh...I assumed it was post count too. I hadn't really paid that close attention. Ah, Forceinfinity, there's your problem...you're chaotic evil LOL No worries. Communicating with a strictly verbal medium like this is a challenge at times. Whatever happened, glad you're still here and it'll all work out. As for contacts, try http://www.stardock.com/contacts.asp
