The major difference, as i see it, is that given consistent input (which may not be very reasonable as an assumption) that Staffa's method will reach an assymptote and stay there indefinitely, whereas CM's method will continue to increase. I for one would not want to see a situation where you had to keep playing just to tread water, I think that would get old in a hurry. But, it is difficult to really get a handle on real-world performance here. CM, have you guys been playing
Bearcave
You know...I took a nasty PQ penalty on an event this morning and the PQ of the planet didn't seem to change....
That did it, though the scoring seems to have changed in 1.05.071. My initial submission (1.05.069) was 2715 (5513 Mpts) and this was 2820 (4772 Mpts). It could be I just don't know how the points work. Curious, but doesn't really matter...beats the heck out of 400! LOL Thanks
Staffa, I think what he might mean is that the flag on the game record in the database has to be reset because the program won't override the existing version information which says the game should be 1.044. Once that is removed, we can resubmit, and assuming the game does properly say it is 1.05, the score should then be recorded correctly. Did I get that right, Brad?
Brad, I just tried it, and the game still submitted as 1.044 :notsure: Edit: Staffa, my score did change slightly, but not to where it ought to be. [Message Edited]
CM, I don't understand where the dip at the end of the original graphs is coming from. Oh, duh, now I see it. That's the 5th year decay.
Excellent. Thanks Brad. With the new "save prior to end of game" feature, will this allow resubmission of cultural victories without waiting 12 months? Guess I'll have to try and see :p
It's the world's first nanonarcotic! Way to go Brad :SURPRISED:
Ah! Thank you so much :D I wondered if that might be the case, but didn't think to ask. I had a huge early jump in this game. I submitted last night with a score in the 5000 range, but there appears to be a bug with metaverse scoring and the latest version (governor patch). Staffa has a thread about it. Anyway, I've moved on to a new game and bumped the AI up to normal...should be fun. I'm near a corner and got off to a good start again, but I let the Altarians grab a system i
This happened to me last night, but I thought it was because I used a game that was begun in 1.04 Staffa, I know you had done that too, was this the same game or was this one purely 1.05? Anyone else? I reported in the metaverse submission thread last night, but assumed that was the issue, as I had a few other odd problems.
Hi T-Man. I'm really confused. Edit: Actually, see the end of the msg please. I just finished a game started under 1.044 and finished under 1.05. All AI on sub-normal medium/common/tight Cultural victory in 2191 The game reported a score of 5513, but it said all AI were set on beginner. Then my metaverse score showed up on the metaverse as 390 (1.044). It's not that big of a deal, really, but I really thought I
Wow....I went ahead and upgraded with the governor fix and kept playing, assimilating planets culturally and shooting for tech. A full decade after I culturally control every sector (maybe one or two weren't mine at varous times on medium) the message pops up and the timer starts in 2191...very odd. Cari, if you see this, I'd be glad to send the file if you wuld like to look at it. If you don't have time, I understand. no one else seems to be having an issue. Thx
I agree with hairythe taco on map size...tiny leaves no room for error. I don't play strategy games much, partly because I stink at them. I actually find GalCiv quite easy on the lower difficulty settings (in a good way, not a complaint). I'm currently thrashing the AI on sub-normal in a medium galaxy (though I had a lucky starting position which helped). It would very much help to know what kind fo game you are trying to play. There are lots of ways to play. I tend to pick
Duglis, what do I send and to where? SoulWound, 96% isn't enough....That means you are 96% to the victory, not culturally dominate 96% of the galaxy. You must dominate 90% of the galaxy and you were 96% of the way there.
I'm not terribly concerned either way, but thought I'd try and clear the waters a bit. -EtherMage ----- I'm with you there...makes little difference to me..just trying to help. I think you've created a very simple yet powerful example. nice work.
Staffa, You know, I didn't realize it before, but if I understand the current method correctly (devalue numerator with same denominator) and you use a similar scenario (one game per week with constant score), the metaverse score will increase forever...it does NOT bottom out. Take an example of one game played per month with a score of 1000. In this example, the score is devalued each month by 20% until it drops to 40% (just for you CM :D )
Woohoo!
Plephart, I have had some problems with a 1.044 game (I said 1.040 earlier, but now I'm not sure). Cultural victory doesn't seem to be working properly. I've been trying to figure out if it is something buggy with my save or if that and some other problems (like peculiar behavior with refreshing of time to completion in the planet list) are due to 1.05 To CM and Staffa, Guys try to keep it civil. You're both valuable to the community and I'd like to k
Carney, a number of people have reported that. I'm sure they'll get to working on that one as soon as they can.
Nope, got thousands in the bank. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
Michael, I'm experiencing some problems in 1.05 that may be due to loading a 1.04 game. I'm not certain if that is the cause yet. See my cultural victory in 1.05 thread for more info.
That could take a while...I find planets take quite some time to go from rebellious to flipping...unless I go building SBs with waterparks in every occupied sector. Plus I've got some minors to deal with... If I do go for the tech victory, there are at least 3-4 planets that could flip any time...more research capacity :D
RayChua, that isn't it. Shakaar, yes I know that, which is why I'm trying to figure out if this is a 1.05 bug or something that resulted from using a game started in 1.04 Again, has anyone completed a cultural victory in 1.05 yet? I could start a new game later and try, but I figured someone probably already had. Anyway, I guess I have two options, try military victory or tech. I have a large manufacturing base, and could easily make a bunch of constructors to upgrade
Only culturally :D No I haven't fired a shot. The Yor are at war with the Torians, and I am trading with the Torians, nothing else. I can try getting the torians to declare peace and see what happens... well, i tried giving them all my money for 50 months, all my planets, all tech, etc. for the yor to make peace with the torians and they wouldn't budge, so I can't try that. Still their conflict shouldn't cause a problem anyway, should it?
Is cultural victory working for other people in 1.05? The 12 month countdown is not advancing for me. However, I didn't start this game in 1.05 and I'm trying to decide if that is part of the problem. Thanks ps...really hope this game didn't get fragged...cultural victory on medium in 2189 after an amazing start thanks to marvelous starting position. [Message Edited]
