Stardock Sales told me by mail that Once Galactic Civilizations II is released, we will likely be making CDs of the game or copies of the retail version available to TotalGaming.net customers for a media and handling charge. This has not yet been announced or arranged. I didn't want to wait and ordered a physical copy on a different
e-stab
Congratulations to both of you! May the Frog join the pond safely and healthy.
Does it mean I will download the game on Feb 21 and then get a CD That's it. (Be aware that you'll have to pay shipping for the CD, but the "physical" pre-order goodies like a tech-tree poster etc. will be included.)
the 15$ differance is hard to account for. $15? 44.95 - 39.99 = 4.96 (Yes, plus $10 for shipping in the Stardock shop, but shipping isn't included in the other price either.)
Maybe they should make it available a few days eariler to the Beta testers to spread the load. What a great idea! We won't tell anyone... (how could we - busy playing anyway!)
Don't worry - once we all get our greedy hands on the game , I'm sure the whole episode will be forgotten pretty fast.
BlizzardGR, just give it a break. You haven't made a single turn in GalCiv II, and IIRC you haven't played GalCiv I either. This is not Master of Orion or Space Empires, this is GalCiv. You don't know how the game plays and feels, so I suggest you wait for that experience before suggesting quite drastical changes and additions. They won't be heard anyway at the moment and it's not me I'm talking about, it's Stardock that has other things to care about
To throw in my two cents, I didn't miss supernovas, black holes, meteors, terror stars and the like in the Beta a single second. I think we all should play the game before demanding any additions.
how big it will be (because I have to watch not to exceed my download-limit) It'll come on 2 CDs so we're somewhere between 700 and 1300 MB.
I won't be buying GC2 for the flashy (graphics) part, what drives me crazy in advance are these AI reports. Hey, you're not worshipping all that bling enough!
Bah, who needs a demo anyway! Play the real thing right away!
16x9 Hmm, how about getting a video projector and some popcorn...? Oh wait, somebody will have to play for me then!
Thanks PP, that's what I thought as well. I won't take the risk and download the whole thing anew. It can't hurt to keep the Beta archived though...
The publisher for Europe is Paradox Interactive, they have a web shop ( Link ) as well and ship from Stockholm, so there shouldn't be a problem with customs. They don't have a direct download option though, so you'll have to wait for the physical shipment. AFAIK all pre-orders will get the same goodies.
Is there an official recommendation by Stardock about whether to install the final version on a "clean" system or over a Beta version?
I heard the demo comes out some time after release, don't know if this means one week or three months later though.
I was winning the game on all fronts in the Beta 5 when there was a backlash against my growing Terran influence. Suddenly blue completely disappeared from the map! I'm pretty sure the influence borders were buggy in the Beta. I had several very radical changes, like almost the whole map taking one colour a
I've got the same amount of RAM and less GHz and had no problems with the Beta. As for the graphics card, I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for on a quick google tour, but I don't think you'll have problems. Most (if not all?) modern gaming graphics cards are 3D I think, but maybe others will fill this gap for me.
We'll probably fix it for the bonus pack. Would be nice, at the moment it's a trade-off between investing a little real-time and lots of mouse-clicks against giving up game money (or IPs).
Thanks for the information, CariElf. I hope you had a nice hunt tracking down this one.
Sounds very good! I was already impressed by the last Beta version available to me, but I understand more and more that I only saw the bare brickwork. I don't play that many games, bought only two or three last year I think, but the ones I buy I tend to play a lot all the way down to the bottom. And it's been long since I could hardly wait for a game that much like I do at the moment. Thanks for taking the time to write down your impressions
"All told, however, Galactic Civilizations II should begin effectively killing strategy gamers' minimal social lives on February 21, 2006." Yepp, I liked that one most as well. Seriously, I think the game is doomed to be a hit.
close to a hotspot in Nepal atop' a mountain, close to a Pizza outlet, and where they deliver beer If you ever find that place, tell me! <TD class=
Now I'm confused - is IP accumulated and spent every Dec at the UP, so that in the example above you will have 12,000 at the beginning of Dec and 0 after the meeting That's how it worked in GalCiv I, and I think it's still like that. Basically there are two layers of influence: One is accumulating the values until the next UP meeting (this
It was also the most easily abused part of the game. You're probably right. *whistles and tries to look innocent* If exploitability is the cause for removing the option, then so be it. But a "cash-me-out" button would still be a nice addition, setting money and influence values to the right
