I played the EaW demo and, well, it is - nice. I liked the space battles a lot for the flavour, but the rest seemed a little boring.

Isn't there a small "+" button next to the GalCiv II entry in Stardock Central that shows you the three sub-modules?
*leans back in his chair, pets his already pre-downloaded version and prepares to enjoy the show* Brad, perhaps you should put a ransom on really catastrophic reports - it was almost boring yesterday!
Do I need to uninstall the Beta 5 before installing the final release? It was told by Stardock that you can move or copy the Beta to a different folder and then continue playing with it. I prefer waiting for the real thing though! <img src="smiles/
Tutorials are downloaded now, can't tell about the two others yet.
Pre-download of the base files was fast and worked fine for me using the California server. Trying to download Tutorials, Movies and Multimedia though results in Stardock Central constantly retrying to get the files, but doesn't seem to work.
Just make a wild mix of the downloaded files and an archived Beta and you'll be able to play... - something. (No, kids: Don't try this at home! )
Thanks for the information, sounds good that the problem is manageable. So it'll be worthwhile to pre-download tomorrow for me and others in the same situation? We'll just have to download a different .exe file later to be able to play?
With regard to the thread title: I didn't realise that the Maso difficulty level in GalCiv 2 even started before you got the game!
Don't forget "The AI pwns me!!! It has to be cheating!" or "What are the cheat codes?"
My version is German. Just tell me if there's anything I can do or try to run on my system, it would be a pleasure to help you. (Last version I had running successfully was 0.81a.015, didn't try after that.) Edit: I may be totally wrong, but perhaps it makes a difference that I'm using SP4? (don't know about your test case) The word "thread" appears a couple of times in the SP4 changelog, especially the first occurence might be interesting. (<a href="http://support.microsoft
Thanks for the response, mavx21. I'm not nervous - yet. How come I could perfectly play Beta 5 then? Okay, I know the game has been changed massively since then, but I still wonder about it, and hope a fix will be made.
Could someone please elaborate a bit on the Win2K issue? I read some bits here and there, but I don't get the whole picture. I'm running Win2K (non-English version btw) and had no problems up to Beta 5, is this going to change with the final release?
I'm sorry to say that, "Lord Doom", but both with format and content your postings remind me of the datatype "byte stream" used in programming languages... I'm sure you could do better.
AFAIK the collector's edition is mainly about getting a different box with a fold-out tech tree and some other similar goodies. The only difference in game content that I know of are the graphical goodies you'll be able to download and put on your ships when designing - it's all about the bling.
While I agree with many of the criticisms put forward against the United Nations, I don't agree with the - more or less subtle - claim that the world would be better off without this institution. I think the well-known Churchill quote about democracies ("It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.") can be applied in a similar way to the UN. World history of the last 60 years would have be
This would be a very nice improvement, but probably not as easy to implement as it may seem. The rules about who proposes the issue to be dealt with and what the choices are need to be thought out well.
Are you sure the devaluation is linear by absolute 5%? I always thought it were relative 5%, like Dracil suggested. I wouldn't mind absolute 5% though, I think if someone didn't submit scores for 20 months (!!!), he shouldn't stay near the top of the list. I was in the top 25 once in GalCiv I, I'm no longer there and it's okay. I consider the Metaverse an up-to-date high score or performance table, not an eternal hall of fame.
A friend of mine told me about it, but I wasn't impressed that much by the screenshots and trailers. Will download the demo though to give it a try (and to shorten the wait for GalCiv 2...).
Actually you can trade ships and starbases in GC1 I believe. I don't know about GC2 since I didn't get the beta, but I would assume that it will stay the same. You can trade ships, but only when you're not at war with the trading partner. When you're at war, they're not listed in the diplomatic dialogue (probably for intelligence reasons). It was sim
I'm sure they'd love to hand the game out as soon as possible, but the retailers would be pretty annoyed if they did it too early.
The one thing I don't like at all is that the game isn't out yet!
Is there any publicized version or plans for it in the future for the entire backstory? I'm sure a lot of the fans would love to read more on the races, and their history. Second that!
Paradox sells a DVD steelbook version with a tech tree, a second poster and other minor stuff included.
I can't see the Beta anymore either, I think they took it out until the final version can be put in upon release (or a tiny little bit earlier ). I read in a thread the other day that they'd take it from the server.
