I can only agree with you, especially on this:
Ex. I click to retreat, and some or all of my troops just keep plowing forward into the enemy.
Units get taunted by creeps and split off the army attacking them. Telling them to move to a point and they just keep attacking, even if you spam the move order. This is so annoying. Imho there should be a "Army Retreat" command which makes a

take a look at Starcraft 2. In order to do an air opener (Starport -> Banshee or medivac for drop / Stargate for Phoenix or Oracle) you need to do severe tech and ressource investment first which takes quite some time. Furthermore the AA in SC2 (especially Terran missile turret) is a fearsome repellant for air units. In Ashes - even if there's an AA turret) you can safely fly in, cause some significant eco damage and get out with no or minimal losses.
@fantstc1: I am talking of the very early game. Building an airport before anything else, rushing airplanes towards the enemy and then killing extractors or even incursion drops. That early in the game you wont have smarties ready. If you indeed have, then you would have to build them before anything else which is trying to blindly counter again. ;)
I'd like to see the air tech in a higher level of the tech tree. Air openers followed by harass are (like Amelie does all the time) must be blindly countered or you suffer huge eco damage within the first 2 mins of the game. Compared to other RTS like SC2 you at least had the chance to scout your enemy and react. In Ashes your opener feels more like gambling...
a voice warning ( event if its just a little *bibip*) would be a little yet very helpful addition! +1! :D
how big was the army you wanted to add those units to? There is a limit on units within an army, currently 100 I think. So only the amount needed to get to 100 will be added to the army.
Agreed, definitely not random. Randomness can ruin the game for you. I thought more of static weather effects like storms which block certain areas for aircrafts?
maybe a peek at the intro for the substrate campaign? =)
An unsolid ground area could have other traits like engineers not being able to build on it. But periodic things aren'ta very good idea imho. There is a reason such things aren't established in the RTS pro game scene (see eg. SC2). I must admit neither did I know nor did I recognice having any benefits from having high ground... lol +1 for the weather effects! ^^
hm, from a lore perspective this coul be hard to argue since every single unit is hovering or flying. Most of the units are quite slow already, further debuffs on that would make armies a fest for bombers! :D Personally I'd like to have more traits for positioning, like high ground sight and range advantage or something similar.
well since Frogboy explained both the freezes and the crashes I don't see any problem with terminology... :D On sunday I played two ranked matches and didnt experience any freezes so I think the micro patch was indeed a fix (at least temporarily)...
I just tried to file a support ticket as asked by The_Gear but the zip file generated by the diag tool exceeds the maximum file size lol... I guess these diag files are not really required anymore? Since the problem seems to be deep within the engine/game itself?
Thanks for the info, The_Gear, I just read through the troubleshooting. Quite a lot of stuff that can cause side effects! :O For now I can only say that my desktop pc meets the recommended hardware requirements, has no programs installed which could cause troubles (like UPlay) and the drivers should be up to date. As soon as I get back home (Sunday evening) I will try to recreate the freeze issue and then run the SD diag tool and open a suppo
Hello there! Since version 1.2 is online I experienced a game freeze mutiple times, always in multiplayer (ranked and unranked). Also in both DX12 and normal version. The game simply freezes, music keeps running and the process itself is not dead according to Task Manager. My only option to get out is to kill the process . :-( Does anyone experience something similar? Is there already a known reason for this?
But bro, i dont see anything running after the crash. the game just disappears.
Sorry I should have mentioned that you can "see" this diagnostic in the Task Manager. It's only visible as a process and disappears a few seconds after the crash.
2) Extreme strategic depth with specialized sensors (RADAR, counter-battery, VTOL strike tower and so on) to which again you could assign units or artillery positions, several kinds of artillery plus tons of specialized weapons and chassis types (wheel, tracks, hover, VTOL and so on...)
Hoy zarax999! I really like this one. I would love to have more strategic depth in sense of scouting, permanent&nbs
Happens to me too. At least you can see a Direct X Diagnose process running right after the crash. So hopefully the devs have an automatic error log for this! =)
Being a software developer myself I can only imagine what will go through the devs minds when reading this... [e digicons]o_O[/e]
+1 on that issue! If you compare the battle time to SOSE, you pretty much have two extremes. One has battles that can last like 10 minutes and the other one like 10 seconds... :D
In general I have to agree with you, except for this one sentence:
i am not sure that you can even call SC2 RTS
but that's a whole different discussion, so let's leave it aside! ;) I Think a third faction, radically different from the first two would bring a lot more visual diversity into the game. And tbh 3 factions should be minimum in RTS games. Jupp, controls are
well worth a try! xD Count me in ;) edit: this should have been posted in the thread for the steam group. Dunno how it landed here, sorry [e digicons]O:)[/e]
I played a few sessions with a friend yesterday and today and here are some more thoughts: Substrate Anti Air Since the Sky Cleanser is a tier 1 unit, it is far too weak to fight bigger amounts of PHC bombers (Hades) since those are quite tanky. More than once I had a reasonable amount of Sky Cleansers but one fly by of like 6-8 bombers evaporated them and these bombers went ham on my army until air support arrived. Quick c
- Metaunits are behaving worse than before when it comes to adding in new units. Earlier, if a new unit was added to a meta unit, the meta unit would generally stay at its location or keep following its current direction. If a dreadnought was added, then the metaunit would retreat back to form around the dreadnought. Now though, even if a single T2 unit is added to a metaunits with multiple other T2s, the entire metaunit retreats ba
Great list of issues, Ticktoc! May I put in my two cents? @ Army/Meta units: Totally agree. As long as a non-army group of units moves and fights more efficient than an army group, micro will greatly boost your battle results. Which brings me to the point that control group handling is still quite tough (missing features like "add to control group" and stuff). By the way: control groups nable you to control several dreads with an army... ^^
@Moomo: thanks for the hint with the option to scale the UI. I didn't see it before. My current screen resolution is at 1680x1050. Scaling ro 90% solved that. Tbh I would expect the UI to fit my screen width when set to 100%. The strategic map is working fine when using the space bar. But when using the button, I couldnt close it. Thanks to Ticktocs hint I looked where the close button was supposed to be and voila, it was displayed only partially and fl
