Many people don't like MOO3 coz' it's completely different from earlier products in the gendre. I liked many options but diplomacy and espionage are terrible. Ship design and fleet combat is what I really miss. Frankly, GalCiv is not about fighting aliens. All aliens in Galciv are modified humans, living on the same planets and eating the same food. Imagine Silicoids importing 'drengin silk' to their boiling planet;) OT: one of my favorite episodes in BG saga were meetings with pansy ra

Many points are valid but not all. All my further points based on medium maps and below that size. AI in war prefer to spend their money and tends not to be rich, so no extra cash for tech trading. Although it is rather easy to start war between stronger-weaker or equial opponents, price is much higher and trading is considered much more, i.e. I could start a war between Torian and ALtarian on painful with ease even if they traded for an year. Now I must act before they even started tra

Those who said that tech win is cheese, try that on tiny/rare. Military is momentum on such maps. Who cares how one won? Win is win. Fleet of 20 SF can kill half of that number dreds if attacked. And what? Should I be proud for such 'deeds'? Contrary, putting a culture bomb in the middle of enemy sector with 6 systems is not an easy task with AI better than bright. As for easy 'increasing' military raiting by crancking corvets... Have you ever noticed price? And alliance could be necessity unles

Best way to increase your influence early on is to stay neutral,on good terms with all majors and start wars between them. No alignment troubles and civs at war have significant drop in influence. Limited warfare can help but rather unnecessary. Good diplomacy is much better. Anyway, that's long-term strategy ;)

There is another way to get some ideas of the game. Go to forums. Quite helpful. When main question is 'WTF? How to start playing?' and you don't see answers, wait a month or two. Of course, wait an year and game is cheap but community is most likely dissapeared. Rarely, like with EU2, community lives longer. Where stupid player like me can learn how to beat impossible?

...probably would help: 1. Get some diplo bonuses at the start (diplomacy picks, populists, rush-buying diplotranslator). 2. Set sliders 50%MP-50%R. If map is small, better increase MP. 3. Beeline for trade and build freigters. Send them asap. 4. Find all civs asap. Build some scouts on large maps. 5. Trade techs for other techs, wars between aliens, money, resources and TG (in that order). Can't get tech coz' alien doesn't have any, try to draw them

I don't agree that all influence stuff should be built on the frontier. Wonders that add overall+local influence are good when stacked on one planet with political capital. I think this is better at least on normal-sized maps and below.

Genius AI still fall in diplo traps. Incredible AI does not. I can't win Tiny maps on maso with preselected diplo bonuses. Rare planets will help player with AI Intillegent+, Abundant habitable worlds will stimulate AI production at higher levels.

I'm playing my first game in 1.05. My problem is that game doesn't refresh info screens, i.e. when I check Planets miniscreen, it show production that was finished year+ ago, or after changing economical sliders from 60%SP- 40%R current tech still stay at '1 month left' (I assume that 2.5 times larger investments should speed up the process). To refresh planet's info I'm left-clicking on the planet name and then it updates, like 'diplotranslator-10 months -> medical center-next turn). <

My current game on painfull, with maxed diplo + populists, works just fine. All alliens are at war, I am a leader in every single cathegory, picking up weaklings when that suit me.

Let me, rather inexperienced player, to step in. It was hard for me to win a game on challenging, now I think that painful is cakewalk but will play it till master different size/PQ settings. And I have not played games, which I was loosing, to the end. I don't think that speed should be the most important indicator of the skill. During one game I had an event on Tiny map that increased PQ of all uncolonized planets in 2 sector radio by 15, followed by doubled pop growth. It almost qu

I did it on 'challenging', Arcean intelligent, others set on bright. Coupled with +5%PQ and +weapons, Tiny map. Kept Drengin (second race to encounter) at 'warm+', even with their military 2 times higher, no demands at all. Were the last to be conquered. Since I play mostly Tiny maps, this trade bonus is quite handy unless I want fast conquest. One game as Universalists (Painful) with slight bonus in trade was rather easy as well. Me, being 'good', had 'close' relations with Altarians and Torian

Staffa, with all respect to you, we are talking about +2%, not +40%. I wouldn't mind to be penalized to get +40% PQ. If game uses decimals in calculations, +2%PQ for 5 picks could be useful. Otherwise it's rather wasted spendings. That's only my opinion, of course (and I haven't played on maso as till now). I would go for +5%PQ+1 speed instead of +7%PQ.
