The 1 IP bug was fixed under 1.12 - that's probably why it didnt work! Gifting IPs (any amount) isn't going to save you at maso under 1.12. The plan still works, though, if you gift techs or money instead. You'll have to concentrate on researching techs that the AIs dont (typically, yellow and green techs) and just GIVING them one every now and again to ensure good relations. Alternatively, you can give cash gifts (usually you need at least 500BC as a gift to achieve a diplomatic status change,

I'm sure the Euro's will lodge a protest in Geneva against any plans concocted by other nation-states; the paperwork involved will tie up the whole business in legal debates for years... ;p With Europe, you dont ask questions - you just INVADE! ;)

Jaws - did you then qualify as a "toolie" - as in too-old-for-schoolie? I saw that line in a local paper - anyway, hope you had a great and restful time! The Euros better come well armed if they want to mess with us! >:( ;p LOL

The Bodyguard Another screaming horde of fans greeted them at the hotel entrance. Wild Wombat spoke quietly into his throat mike, directing Monkson and black smoke into a wedge formation to help them get through the lobby and out to the waiting limo. In the middle of it all, the harlequin jester himself, DJ MM77, cavorted and played to the crowd as if he had been born to revel in the spotlight. As they reached the pavement outside, the fans began the usual throwing of chocolate M

I bow to the Suave One's superior computing knowledge! I agree if save/reload fixes the problem, it's in the code not in the hardware. I guess my experience has been with number crunching games - Championship Manager 4 is a good example: it simulates the results of hundreds of soccer games in the background and I reckon there is a direct relationship between the time taken to process and the CPU doing the work. Anyway - I'll stop wombatting on about stuff I dont know about!

ric: footnote - I dont think there is any scoring difference in 1.12. Regarding your Torian problem - I think you found the best way out of the dilemma. I find that if an AI gets a flying start in resources (eg several good planets in their starting sector, or adjacent) they will really come for you, no matter what. This is magnified on a small map, of course, when they're in your face from the start - I will sometimes have to simply abandon games because I cant get any leverage on them.

vincible: hmmm...I dont know enough about computers to really answer that, and it wasn't in my mind when I was responding to LDiC's comments earlier. Yes, I guess fancier graphics mean that processing time is diverted, but I would have thought that it is not the same as the issue for FPS games, where the graphics are full screen and everything is in constant motion. Sure, game companies need to make sure their software runs on the "average" machine - but as Fulgrymm implies, modern machines with

Jeff - the way you're score bombing, I wont hold you off for long - great work lately, mate! And thanks Piers; just mail the brew to... ...Piers, check the GalCiv Strat Threads - there's lots of good stuff there. A lot of more recent material relates primarily to maso, but the tactics and techniques should be applicable to other levels. Hey team - as I write this on Sunday night: we're only about 150,000 behind the wizards! Given we started about 750,000 behind, that is ABSOLUT

LDiC: it becomes a bit of a chicken and egg argument, but no game ever has "insurance" that it will sell. Companies are in the business of taking that risk; of going out and getting venture capital and trying to make a product that will sell at a profit. It's like film making. I could walk in to Paramount Pictures and say: "Hi, my name is Wild Wombat. I've got a great idea for X-Men 3 and I reckon it'll cost about $500 million. If you could just sign the check, I'll get cracking. Oh...and do you
