voidcore: As I mentioned, playing with the text settings in SkinStudio doesn't make any difference in skins where the username is invisible; it stays invisible whatever the settings. In skins where the username is visible, its position can of course be changed as you suggest. jazzymjr: I'm not sure whether Vista as my OS makes a difference in the case of non-Vista WB skins; some have the username visible, some don't. As far as I can see, this isn't due to the skin autho

Thanks for responding. None of the skins I currently have installed was made for Vista. As examples, my username is visible with ChromaXP, but invisible with Universe Metal. All the skins work fine otherwise.
With a minority of WindowBlinds skins my Windows username appears in the top section of the start panel, but with the majority of skins it doesn't. I've tried using SkinStudio to look inside various skins to find out what makes the difference, but I can't figure it out. The start panel text settings don't seem to affect the issue. Can anyone shed any light on this, please? This topic doesn't appear to have come up anywhere in these forums, or indeed anywhere on the Web. Running WB 6.3 in Vist
It won't install on my system; I get a mysterious error message about an (unidentified) file not being found. I've opened a support ticket.
I wonder why the standalone setup file is so much larger (at 23 Mb) than the one for version 6.02 (at 17 Mb)? There doesn't seem to be that much more stuff in it.
I see UniverseMetal isn't on the Inspired Themes list. A pity - it's still one of the all-time great suites. But Logika is on the list, so that's something.
Two points about SkinStudio 6 Professional, please: (1) I've enabled the code editor tab, but I still can't see it anywhere. How do I get to it? (2) SkinStudio 5 had a tool for identifying and fixing skin errors. I can't see this anywhere in the new version. If it has indeed been dropped, this is surely a retrograde step. Many thanks
This is generally a pleasing skin, but as with so many others, little or no thought seems to have been given to the menu backgrounds. I find I don't wish to keep on my system any skin with boring menu backgrounds! Even simple enhancements, such as those in the Universe Metal skin, can make a real difference.
Yes, the choppy cursor movement is much improved, thanks very much, but I'm still getting the problem of the cursor becoming invisible when trying to apply a different theme or changed settings.
On my system, this version still has a problem reported by another user in the original CursorFX thread, namely badly choppy cursor movement with any theme. This makes the program unusable from my point of view. Also, I had to get a new CursorFX Plus activation code for a fresh install of this version; the code sent to me for the first version no longer worked. Not very clever.
Sir Zubaz - thanks for the suggestion, but it's hard to do that with the cursor invisible. Actually, I've now discovered that I can bring the cursor back by logging off and logging on again, without rebooting. Just the same, there's a glitch in the program somewhere. I never had this problem with CursorXP.
Could themes which are CursorFX-ready be flagged on the site here, please? CursorXP themes work up to a point in CursorFX, but not with full functionality: for instance, I can't get the dynamic-mode shadow to work with CursorXP themes. Running CursorFX Plus. Also, I'm getting a sporadic glitch whereby the cursor becomes invisible after applying changed settings. The only way to bring it back is to reboot. Running Vista Home Basic. Many thanks
I've upgraded to WB6 and it's generally working fine (after the initial hassle with activation). First I installed it over WB5, but then on looking in the registry I noticed that some WB5 entries were still stored there, which I didn't like, so I uninstalled completely and did a clean install of WB6. I'm especially pleased with the colour and font controls in the new version. I'm afraid I didn't care for any of the bundled skins, so I've deleted them.
I've had the e-mail and have downloaded my free upgrade, but it turns out to be of little use to me as the details I correctly enter during the activation dialog aren't being accepted. I've sent a support request to Stardock, but In my experience they never answer such requests, so I guess it's back to WindowBlinds 5 for the time being.
This announcement is rather light on helpful information for existing users. For instance, are the long-awaited updates to WindowBlinds 5 and IconPackager 3 now available, please? Not as far as I can tell as of today from Stardock's `download the latest build' service (I no longer use SDC). Many thanks.
No new versions of either of these programs are currently available via Stardock's `download latest version' service.
For those who are looking for an excellent alternative to what Winamp is about to become, try QCD.
OK, I've got the hang of it now, although as yet I can only create very simple designs. I use Paint Shop Pro, by the way. Many thanks once again.
Many thanks for the helpful advice. The screen bitmap I created wasn't 640 x 480, so I imagine that's the reason for the major bootup problem. Now I've got the messed-up colours problem, so I guess I have to learn more about matching the palettes of the screen bitmap and the progress bitmap. I'm fairly experienced at working with image files, and with software generally, so the remarks by craeonics would be a bit insulting if I were the sort of person who easily feels insulted!
Followed the instructions carefully, but when I restarted my computer it went crazy. Eventually I had to go into safe mode, delete the new bootskin I'd created and apply an existing one instead. Evidently there is some vital information missing from the tutorial.
I hope that soon more skinners will create bootskins to match their existing WindowBlinds themes. This doesn't seem to be happening very much at the moment - I have about a dozen favourite WB skins but none of the bootskins presented so far comes anywhere near matching up. Many thanks.
Hello. I have several of the Stardock programs in current versions, which I bought individually (WindowBlinds, SkinStudio, IconPackager, CursorXP). What will be the situation as regards upgrading to the 2004 versions as they come out, please? Many thanks.
Hello. I take it that everybody here who says they have already tried the new version is talking about the beta? I've been checking the Stardock site regularly for the full release but there's still no sign of it. Or have I missed something? Many thanks.
Yes, bitmaps, an .ini file and one or two others.
I've figured out a way round the problem. I renamed each .logonxp file as a .zip file, then unzipped its contents into an ordinary folder. LogonStudio now recognises these folders as available logons and loads them without any problem (so far, that is). Thanks very much for taking the time and trouble to help me with this.
