I might be called an hereric and hunted down, but I think I have to tell you my theory about the identidy of CariElf: It's an AI. When Stardock made this forum, they were looking for one among them who'd take the job of dealing all day long with the complaints and demants of ungrateful geeks - well, for some reason, nobody wanted the job. Then some underpaid intern said: "Well... you know... we made this incredible AI for the game. And the AI is used to do diplomacy and stu

Well, this could be a quite interesting thing indeed. However, I don't think that
Implementation of it cannot be very complex
I think it would require to re-design huge parts of the game. Much to much work. And then get the AI do understand the concept and the portal...

Wow, lot's of cool ideas and pretty cool CariElf has an eye on that thread. ;) My opinion to the ideas so far I agree with nearly everything, but I don't think the idea with the special spy-ships makes much sense. If I want to send a spy to another planet, that is the LAST thing I would do. I would send my spy with a regular freighter that is going there anyway or something like that. And I think it would (for my taste) add a bit too much micromanagement to the g

Wow. I just had a nice game and thougt I tell you about it. :) Small map, planets common, all AIs bright. Federalists, bonus on speed, sensors, production, hitpoints. Act 1 Used my speed advantage and went into dept a lot grab as many systems as possible. Quite succesful with that. A very strange picture begins to form: Terra - 4 systems Arcean - 4 systems Everybody else - only 1 system each ! (minors were of no real importance throughout
I can tell you that no matter what you do, there will always be a percentage of very vocal people ticked off at the system.
Well, I've been moding a forum with 3000+ users for over a year and made the same experience: No matter what you do, there will be those who blame you for being to tough, and those who blame you for not being tough enough, and those who blame you for - being. After a while of mostly frutiless discussions, I came to the conclussion that there is only o

I'd really love to hear some stories about what you're biggest surprises were in playing galciv... those moments when the computer came up with something you hadn't exspected at all. For me, it was during my first game (medium, sub-normal) when I was going for cultural domination pretty easy. I allready controlled about 80% and was getting bored, just tried to end it as fast as possible, 100% military, one constructor after the other, nothing can stop me, raise taxes another time - an

I prefer clusters. :) It leads, in my opinion, to interesting situations which are not possible in a scatterd game. For example, on my actual game (large), there is one cluster on the bottom with NO major civ in it at the beginning. Between that cluster and the rest are about 6 sectors of empty space. So the first civ able to send a colonyship over that distance will get the planets down the: A much longer colonization phase, everyone trying to bridge that gap with space stations and ran

wudang, I understand you very very well. ;) I don't want to blame anyone in this forum because the most players are just players and are not in programing, and that's not their fault. But when you're boss at work - who should know better, but doesn't - is one of the "could you give it wings?"-kind, it can drive you MAD. Once worked for a guy like that. Never again. Argh.

By the way, it's not only galciv - I had the same problem in civ3. The big difference is: I somehow believe that it will be fixed sooner or later in galciv (and it needs to be fixed for sure) while civ3 doesn't have this kind of support. :)
So I simply don't understand why there is this great resistence against implementing a multiplayer mode in this otherwise great game.
*sigh* I don't care if galciv has multiplayer or not, but that ain't the point here. Code Monkey explained it more then once: To add multiplayer would require to re-write most of the code. It is not "just add something", it is more like "start all over again". And they can't afford to put so much work into it. That's it. S
