You should add something about speed modifying starbases and their role in trade enhancement: Keep them between wealthy planets but in the same vertical or horizontal row of sectors. Builds trade centers when you have a large military spending capacity. More Advanced Trade Optimization: (For trade routes spanning multiple sectors only) You might notice that starbases with speed bonuses do apply to mini-freighters. To get the most out of your trade, yo

He. I had that colony, too. Unlike Gandalf which was alway productive PQ 24 to start! Ended up 35 with all PQ improvements and The Terraformer. Bellatrix was shitty ass planet that was 14 before I built the Terraformer. I'm sure that had something to do with it. I think the real answer is that I was going to join anyways. We're not doing so bad sitting at 2nd with only 20 members. A bit more recruiting and we'll take 1st easy . And yes tech victories give poor score

when used skillfully, corvettes are excellent weapons they have decent attack power which allows them to take out most starbases, attack trade routes, take out colony ships, chase down constructors and freighters, etc. and since they are so cheap to make and maintain, it doesn't hurt to have a lot of them. If I have the tech, I never really stop making them. If I am frigate rushing an AI and I have the corvette technology, I'll have corvettes near to destroy the colony ships pa

damn scoring has no rhyme or reason probably some reasoning behind it, but it beats the hell out of me anyways joining the council now, this past game, Gandalf and Sauron star systems were right next to each other. I guess it's just luck.

Beginning Stuff 1. Tutorial are necessary but look around the forum for a helpful fellow player. 2. Nice concise organization, I like it. The "good" interface looks really nice. Graphics I just have to say that the current demand for better graphics, better visuals is plain stupidity. If any one remembers all the old games, old classics. They are still good, not because of graphics or visuals, but rather the concept and their originality. You can take the sa

Maybe that's because I play on higher difficulties and with my style where it's necessary to be an excellent war machine, I usually dominate in military power. If you are playing a peaceful style then build one colony per fifteen colonies where you crank out the units, save your construction cost for something else more productive in the other fourteen.

I always set aside a few, a very small number of colonies dedicated to simple transports, constructors, scouts, sensors, etc. The vast majority I build shipyards etc. because when you do go to war, you really need to turn on the ship production. and the ships that pop out are high quality, so yeah for me the I follow rule #1 with a few systems as exceptions, (the ones in the corner of the map on large or larger. Oh, yeah and my style doesn't really allow me to build ma

The best way to go is to own half the galaxy until you reach really high tech + population levels, slowly culturally assimulate everyone and win then a military victory in the end yeah, I played that maso pretty skillfully, but there was no way I would have scored a high score, I owned about 1/2 the star-systems but still wasn't producing nearly enough to keep up with the other civs and I forgot about that feeling of repeated redundancy.

Good way to start. Population growth by the way is from having high moral >54% Keep moral at 100% until you have the map colonized. Also don't colonize planets with PQ (planet quality) less than 15 and always colonized the planets with highest PQ The Encyclopedia (button up top) has a few excellent tips. The GalCiv Guide (downloads page) has a few more. For specific help look around on this forum or on the GC strategies forum.

Anyone have some of that!?? I think I'm screwing something up. Playing on the smaller maps - have been getting best results on tiny Government: Federalists or Populists Picks: speed+1, pop growth +30, soldiering +10 75% military 25% tech until all systems are colonized - not colonizing additional planets in system unless 18 or better then 100% tech to diplomacy after that I tech to deflectors that I can often trade can for impulse drive<b

Damn someone has to help me with my rushing skills. Maybe I'm screwing up my rush, but i've never gotten even close to the results from my second attempt at it. I figure as soon as I win a maso game on 1.05, I'll join some empire.

Oh wow. 15-20 trillion??? I haven't even reached 7 trillion and I thought I was being cheap. The 1 trillion number was from an old game that I did not submit. In a military conquest attempt on gigantic ver. 1.03, on painful, I've finished with under 1 trillion in pop, with about 200 billion still in transports - no teching up the entire tree - just as fast as I could, like most of the games I play The game turned out to be a cultural victory because my war ma

Yep, you should find yourself destroying a whole bunch of social projects when taking over some AI planets. Lots of research buildings, moral, buildings are just junk because their upkeep costs is so high. Others you might as well keep because although they were really expensive have low enough upkeep to justify their existence. I think I find myself destroying cheaper buildings with same or higher upkeep costs when I find them. Entertainment Network when I find Harm

actually, if they only made a second set of resources, resources necessary for only one unit. the strategic resources in Civ3 was a brilliant idea. You can't imagine how many wars have erupted over bickering over strategic resources, but yeah from the sound of the game, it isn't exactly a game with a lot of replayability. I guess I should say, someone would have to really convince me. [Message Edited]
