Many races culturally flip very easily. Sometimes it's difficult to slow down your cultural conquest. Raising cultural resistance would help. If I want to help an AI combat culture. I have to build the starbase and give it to them. It would be nice if they knew how to do combat culture by building starbases rather than cultural resist projects.

Hey, B Garrett. Welcome to the forums. Tax slider use is a very advanced technique. Although you are getting more money by moving your tax rate around, you are being penalized in population. The lower morale also makes you suceptible to destabilization. In situations where you really need the extra money immediately, you might want to manipulate the slider. In the end, it's a short-run/long-run decision.
Play the GotM! :) They are lots of fun. But I have to say that the most recent scenario is a huge pain in the butt. When you finish and read my AAR, you'll see why.
Victory: Alliance Victory Number of Original Civilizations: 7 (including Terrans) Date of Victory: Jan. 2100 Late July Game of the Month This mission looks like a diplomatic mission, and give me jitters. Not that I am unskilled in diplomacy, but I usually do not play this way. My strategy involves bursts of rushing. My plan in this game still involves fighting, but it is more of teaching the aliens a lesson than exterminating them. I hope I can weaken them
Ok, first report in. Again, my notes on strategies, although not quite as detailed or blow by blow. My CTDs and reloading changed the course of history and the alliance bit was really tricky. Although I can't be sure, I think the only reason I got the last alliance with the Torians was because I saved in frustration and loaded again. The AAR is coming up.
Yo, I finished. Although I did fairly well, it was really frustrating, and I have to say that this scenario involved a lot more luck than skill. The game mechanisms are also screwy, and my CTDs during the game were one of the biggest problems. At the end I was autosaving every two turns and hoping for the best. I'll post my results and AAR in the discussion thread.
So, how about it Richard Heaton. Join the Fellowship? Good luck on your masochistic play.
Ahh, taking back the gold. Very nice, Ray. Maybe this time you'll keep it for longer than a couple hours.
Go for it, Ray, bring back the gold. I just started the GotM. This one looks very interesting, and the diplomatic juggling has yet to start. I wonder what I am going to do about those pesky minors and the Yors.
I recall reading somewhere about an exploit where you dump starbases on the computer to drag down his economy or something
Do not do that. At masochistic, the AI might have an influence bonus, or the AI might just have an overwhelming influence due to its PQ advantage. Regardless of the cause, the AI has too good of an economy and too powerful of an influence to give it any starbases.
The Game of the Month for late July is up. Participate in force and try to claim that victory. This time it's a diplomatic challenge. See how well you can convince everyone to ally with you. [Message Edited]
Awesome idea for the late July game, Michael. This one is going to take quite a bit of diplomacy! It also means I can't play pure evil this time. [Message Edited]
Good job everyone, and Ray's holding onto the #1 spot in the metaverse. Keep it up!
http://www.galciv.com/playerreg.asp Try that. If you already tried it, then sorry not helping.
awesome, can't wait.
Masochistic strategies often involve two extremes: Lighting war and stay out of war. In essence you want to be in the state of peace or declared ceasefire as long as possible. When you do get into war, make sure you have the first strike. vincle has some creative tactics to use against the AIs. Tech trading, however, is essential and cannot be overlooked. Basically trade at every opportunity.
As far as the AI is concerned whenever you ask for something you are demanding.
It's best to have a lot of money on hand, grab a transport and rush over. Rush buy everything up to 100 that pertains to moral, and ferry quite a bit of population back to your main colonies.
I think we could accomplish the same thing by magically disconnecting them from the internet. ~SDC~
Some of you might not need to change your nicks. Just write introduction and background into your current names and join. Space Wombat would be quite easy. Drop Bear: not as easy, but shouldn't be too hard.
I understand. I think I'm going to play small/maso maps for fun now. No point in trying to score them. As for the larger ones, I might give them a shot. But as of right now I have not had any success.
It was a game that came from 1.01. The game was started on normal AI, but 1.05 didn't process it correctly. I don't think I'll be submitting the newest maso score. Most of them are already dragging down my overall.
I just finished a small/abundant/maso victory by rushing and allying. Rapid trading, early rush, and overwhelming numbers got me the win by 87, but the score was abysmal. :( I can't believe it only scored 3500.
And #1 for now.
I seemed to have missed quite a bit, this weekend. I'll try to contribute after I catch up on everything.
