Thanks Dark Mist ,I was going to try making the changes at the folder and file level to keep from using skinstudio.Problem tho,i've already altered the file on some in skinstudio,original filename is gone.To bokiopaki...MyWB4 is flaking to , A simple repair wouldnt fix it.Had to uninstall AND go to the windowblinds folder and clear out the leftover trash. Hope it works.

I'm having trouble with WB4 too .It's not handling shell style components well.They keep disappearing and reappearing.If i edit a shellstyle in skinstudio its gone for good even tho the code veiw is correct.
Skinners not only need something like this,they deserve it.Without the hard work skinners do for free there would be no use for WB etc...Need somewhere to get clear answers to skinning problems because the tutorials and documentation just dont cut it.Compromising a skins quality out of frustration is sad.(bitch over,whine dying down)

I am really enjoying being part of this very interesting internet subculture.the creativity level is amazing.The willingness to help each other.The humour(some of you guys crack me up).A skinners only forum is a great idea.A side note about competition and stats...nothing wrong with a little HEALTHY competition.Thats what drives skinners to push past mediocrity.We create skins and give them away for free because we love skinning.Comments and stats are our bread and butter.When my first skin went
As a new skinner i welcome this idea.My first skin might have been created in half the timeand been more fun and less frustration at trying to solve problems(some of which apparently dont have solutions...would have helped to know rather than waste hours for nothing)
Hard lockups are usually hardware related.Especially overheating.Try running your pc with the side off just to see if it helps.My pc used to freeze constantly.Mostly when it was doing nothing!(or closing an app)Turned out to be a common problem for the model of motherboard i had.(not able to read and write to memory correctly)A trip to Frys electronics and a cheap 60$ MB fixed everything.
I agree this is damn annoying.Being a new skinner i thought the problem was me.I probably wasted hours on little"bugs" that i couldnt resolve.Only to give up frustrated and settling for some compromise.

I'm sorry to disagree Neil, they just dont work.(not on my system anyhow)Specifying fonts for the start menu would be fantastic.I almost couldnt set the clock font because i was only setting it for WB4.(i will be sure to set both the same in the future)On the start menu NEITHER do anything.the mouseover color dosnt work at all.Sorry to be such a whiner about this but the whole purpose of this program is to allow you to change the way microsoft thinks things should look.

I understand (i think) that previous versions of WB or nonxp syatems might have settings that dont apply to them and have to use os defaults ,but this is the reverse of that.There are settings for both WB3 and WB4.The settings for 4 are deprecated and do nothing(tho i REALLY wish they would)the settings for 3 sometimes work and sometimes dont.My clock text would not change fonts until i set it with WB3 settings although i run WB4.If i only set the change for WB4 nothing would happen.

Mine says deprecated in WB4.If you cant set them for WB4,why are they there?This was a big stumbling block while designing my first skin and i would like to figure it out before i start another.Heeelp.

Thats what i thought but why?The features i'm talking about specifically are the settings for text fonts on the start menu and text mouseover color.Sometimes the normal color can look fine but since the mouseover dosnt change colors it may not work with your mouseover bmp.(somtimes blending in to invisibility)Why would they discontinue this feature?People using WB3 may get some unusual effects with skins designed for WB4 .Alot of the personality of a skin is in the fonts the skinner chose.

Several settings in skinstudio say deprecated in WB4.What's happening here?If this means what i think it means then people using using WB3 are gonna get a different look than the one in my screenshot.Maybe better maybe not because i cant see what my settings are doing.(i'm using WB4)

That was why i started with an existing template.Everything is already there your just replacing all the standard luna graphics.I'm no expert on blank templates ,its possible you may have to add all buttons and set there functions individually.Buttons were definately one of my stumbling blocks.but finally got them all to work(even the little winamp controls)The way i had to do it was to open a skin that works correctly and look at the way they set all the options.(not telling you to copy anythin
I dont think the classic template will include those branches but you might still be able to add them .

I just completed my first skin so i know where your coming from.I started with the luna template and replaced all the graphics .you will have to adjust things like margins and colors to suit your graphics.Some parts are pretty obscure but if you dig deep enough you find them.The other skinners are very helpful .The only part i couldnt skin was the mouseover on the more programs bmp.
I have seen it done in object bar but i'm not using it . Your method was the best i could come up with too.What a shame tho,...all that work and something very plain cant be changed.
