The only post that struck me as an attack was Flymar's reply 9. It wasn't an attack in any way. If you consider it was, I apologize. I just think it's a bad idea.
I honestly didn't take it as a personal attack so please. no need for an apology. As you said, you were expressing your thoughts about the concept - so all cool from my side. :)

I would say it's closer to an 80% game. Meaning, in my mind, I think that this game is 70% in the enjoyment factor compared to other games in the same genre. But, this game is still on the rise. I think it can get to a 100%, when all the expansions and patches are out.
Yes
Cool initiative, but... are we supposed to allocate points to the different areas? Like I see you have 90 points for game world, but I'd put 150 max points in that area? Or do I have to use 90?
Completely redistribute points, categories, factors. Add and distribute based on what is important to you. I completely forgot to put in Modding in my original post - and this is reasonably important to me. [quote who="AM_Shark"

I've been thinking about how difficult it is to really rate Elemental. There are so many factors. Most games just split their scoring into categories such as game-play, graphics, sound, etc. But Elemental is way more complex than that sort of approach. A factor important to one person is not important to another. I thought it would be interesting to rate the game based on allocating 1000 points across the various concepts then scoring the game out of those 1000 points. Feel free to co

Thanks Toby for explaining the thoughts and rationales for 1.1. Before this thread I was awaiting 1.1 with a mixture of trepidation and cynicism. We hadn't really been given much concrete information. Now I am really looking forward to it being released. I especially like your objective approach to big-picture concepts within the game. It shows us that instead of patching the 'urgent' you are focussing on the 'important'. I'm also really heartened that you are not prom

Nice post Goontrooper. I see things a little differently with regards the population changes. Imagine a feudal society where each fief/holding/village/town/city etc has to give over 1 in every 10 workers to the feudal lord. Some will become soldiers and expand or protect the frontiers. Some will become bureaucrats and help manage the various towns. It will be up to the lord to allocate the roles to these people under his/her direct control. They wouldn't live in one ci
Yes, it does. You can just use a custom tech tree for any race, and that means you can use custom armor or units for any race.
I'll need to look again. Thanks for the info. :)
we already have unique tech trees for the different factions (not races yet) and some varied spells and we plan on adding to it in the future. As it stands now there will not be any further differentiation (for 1.1) between races in a particular faction aside from what is in the faction design options/tag skills. Both the Empire and Kingdom tech trees are being completely overhauled for the new system (they will lo

Hi Toby. :) Like the global mana. LOVE the research spell books individually (finally - choice rather than process!!!). Not sure about pop because of city spam. Sounds OK but I hope there are worthwhile rewards for fostering a large city AND also a reason to develop other cities individually beyond just claiming ground. Can see a problem with all resources being used on the capital while you have a swag a of small cities claiming the resources. Would like to see a rewa

As others have said, Heavenfall, you are one of the few who are moving Elemental forward from the outside. Please don't underestimate our appreciation for your efforts. I know first-hand it can be disheartening when producing work like this for a community. I spend a couple of days writing an installer for Dwarf Fortress tiles and graphics packs to make it easier for non-technical players. Someone, in post 2, replied to the community that because it was an exe file that it cou

In Elemental many of the concepts that should be simple are too complex (Allegiance - Faction - Race relationship, Unintuitive lore etc) and things that should have some complexity are too simple (tactical battles, racial differentiation, tech differentiation, spellbook differentiation etc) . Hoping Brad, Derek and Toby see the big picture in this regard.
The people who are unhappy don't stick around, they go away. Hopefully they'll return if/when the game improves. I don't think the community has "matured" in any sense of the word, I still see people with valid complaints get hammered by fanboys. If anything those who are too disappointed have simply given up posting, for now, leaving a disproportionate amount of fanboys left. I, for one, do not consider it civil towards the

Is it just me or does it seem our Elemental Community has tightened and matured during the last month or so? There seems to be less posts but there is also a marked increase in respect for both the devs and the other posters. Feels like a good environment now. :) I'm certainly enjoying meandering through the various posts much more. Well done all. [e digicons]:star:[/e]

Ummm, quick question please. I bought Civ 5 mainly for the next FFH mod in that series. Does Derek's appointment mean that I shouldn't hold my breath for any development now in this direction? Or was part of the deal to allow Derek to also work these sort of products? Not that I'm complaining. This is such awesome news I just hope that Derek will be allowed enough rope to get the changes made that need making within Elemental. :)
I'm a Floridian who very much appreciates having some colour in my world-English prose. It's just that my only exposure to "spelt" has been on the labels of niche-market grain products. Is it kosher in the UK to use a simple T where us cross-the-pond folks would generally think to use a form like "spelled?"
Lol. I think the spelling is Old English in origin and has been around a long, long time. Most words don't work by tra
Your liberated spelling of spelt has some serious irony/cognitive dissonance entertainment value. It almost distracts from your more important point about how the built-in factions do little to nothing for making a given game distinctive (regardless of the whole lack of random maps problem). I don't often rank-ordered lists and I certainly wouldn't put visuals at the top of one I was forced to make, but if I pretend 1-6 are fuzzy, co-

Some really great suggestions/insights added here. Particularly like the 'Shit happens' post by Dhraconus and the various comments for and against traditional recognisable races. I guess the escalation of monsters through the adventuring tech tree is an approach to the 'Shit happens' scenario. This has potential but just isn't hitting the mark yet. In FFH2 there were also specific monsters that spawned as the Armageddon counter climbed and depending on your stage of development they e

Thanks for your comments. :)
Tech Tree: as for the spamming combat techs remarks, I completely disagree.
