DIVINE SECRETS Introduction - Myths of the Metaverse Is there life in the metaverse? Take one look and the answer is clear. There is life, and it spreads at an incredible rate. No-one knows how it started, only that it exists, and has brought about many different species. Some are rare, others exist in every galaxy. Take the humans, for example. They have dominated countless galaxies throughout the metaverse. Yet they have not figured out how to unite their forces - any ship at

aargh friggin uni exams >:( Never fear. Soon, soon... just a few more hours, then I can begin. TheQuack will return.
Well, the hack they used to take was presenting a bunch of scenarios, and seeing your next move. The computer knows that in that position, newbies have made blunders, average players play average, vets play a good move, and grandmaster can see 10 moves ahead and see a devastating move. It's memorized the moves made by different rated players in the past. Give the player a bunch of those, and get an approximate rating. Nowadays, I think they can do it by giving the game AI a chess rating and rati
Wow, we've got a new challenge GOTM. Morality: Neutral Galaxy Size: Huge 10504 Difficulty: Simple Win / Lost: Win: Alliance Victory Win that, and you go straight to 18th. D'oh. "Help, Stardock! I didn't play my deadweight games, it was, um, my invisible friend, yeah that's it..."
In all the threads here about how to score games, there's been a few posts trying to concentrate on the player's overall score, but they've been swept away most of the time by game-scoring ideas. I think it's worth having a proper discussion on what the goals of the metaverse are - even if a lot of them conflict. Then, we might be able to figure out a new method of eroding scores, and a better player scoring system than (sum of all degraded game scores) / sqrt (number of games) <br
"LMAO I didn't rob the graves of those fundy goobers. I robbed them, then put them in the grave." Yeah, but every month you dig them up again, steal their credit card, run up a massive bill for whores, rum, and everything else pirates go for - and them, to top it all off, you f'n put the card back in his pocket, bury him again, and wait till the first of the next month to do it all again! Some cultures believe that if you get buried with money, you'll have a better afterlife. You're sen
Hmm... I just thought of a nice way to tie both stories together. Can't add it now, some work just caught up with me - but stay tuned. Same Bat-time, same Bat-channel...
Actually, I think those fast games (however they're won) should be rewarded with higher scores, to encourage them to be posted, but that doesn't mean the changes have to be put through at all difficulty levels. Those games could be used to change the AI on the high levels, but it's already been said that lower difficulty levels don't use all the AI functions available. So, far in the future, normal games would be pretty similar to now, and you'll be able to play peaceful there if you wa
"GROSS is the closest thing to human supremecy without "singling out" a certain country or nationality" Hey, we don't single out any nationality, we just reprensent the anzac spirit, with mateship, loyalty, and, of, course, BEER. Good beer too. Honk if you're horny. Join ANZAC if you're thirsty. ;p @ pontius: Bloody grave-robber, lol. Then again, my games end up pretty similar, so I can't point any fingers. Good and evil is pretty dodgy - you get called evil just f
I've become too addicted to governors. I can't remember how I used to play games like this without them :)
Would installing the traditional 1.04 patch over 1.05 turn the whole thing to bollocks and force a reinstall? If not, we might as well just do that until this gets fixed.
I've seen a frigate attack a fleet of standard (not combat) transports in open space, and one of the transports died - along with the frigate. Spooky.
Hey, you can't advertise like that! Well, if you're gonna do that, I'm gonna advertise my old empire-sliders thread! http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=66132 Read post 9, and either vote for it or think up a better idea! aargh! this wasted money is driving me insane :sniff!: This political advertisement is brought to you by the Spending For A Better Tomorrow Party. I found that quote I was thinking about: "But eventually, we hope to integrate that sort of thing into the game where you can literally pick a player from the Metaverse to try to play and the AI will try to simulate their style. That’s a ways off but that’s the long term goal." Is that a goal for an expansion pack, or is that more of a GalCiv 2 idea? Anyways, that new scoring idea looks allright, and with more time I'm sure it'll just keep getting better and better.
MM77: HOW in H$!! did YOU become a BATTLE CRUISER VICE PRESIDENT! WHOS LOL LIPOP! did YOU SUCK!!!....... Last time I checked, there was still only one president here, that narrows down the field a LOT. He's a bit of a LOL LIPOP!-head, though. His poems don't even spell CariElf like they used to :) Back to business... The Cari-Elf Fan Club Proudly Presents C A R I - C O N The Only Convention Experience For Any TRUE Fan Sponsored
I remember reading an idea somewhere about having the metaverse pick up trends of the game, and eventually it might be able to simulate a certain person as an opponent in your game. To do this, they'd have to have some pretty sophisticated machine learning tools running on all our submitted games. Say I conquer all but 1 planet in year 2200, but milk the game for 30 years, by which time I've got every wonder and tech but beyond human (think SimGalaxy: an occasional random bad event, b
You can even get a bit of animation going if you drag onto the right spot somewhere else...
Well, I'm sure that for every trade good and galactic wonder, there's a perfect clip in a cheesy sci-fi movie out there... somewhere... we just have to find it :)
I think instead of a guide with search text, a simple fat html file would be better - people who just want to read can do that, and people looking for a specific topic should be able to click on it and hyper-scroll down. I might be able to help with this, but I'll have to see what's happening with uni and work first.
If they set up some challenge games, there could make a medal for anyone who beat them on maso. Heck, we could be just a real army, with "i woz there" medals, above-and-beyond medals, and the victoria cross / medal of honor for the things that just make you go "wow".
I choose a bunch of economy bonuses, so I can avoid leases, jack up the spending to 100%, keep a reasonable tax rate, and by the time I run out of money, I've got enough research and infrastructure to have a decent starting position.
All you have to do now is join the ANZAC empire, and your gaming experience will be complete :)
lol, about the geek thing - i just remembered the scene from South Park when the kids are all dressed up as lord of the rings characters, they walk past some other kids dressed up and playing games, and ask what they're playing - they say harry potter. Cartman just laughs, says "Faggots!", and walks off. (cartman's dressed as gandalf, btw.) What's the point of posting that? Well, it's funny is all! I'm sure I had another point, though... oh, yeah. There's people who'd call us geeks cause we
Ooh, you don't want him doing diplomacy... if you sent him with a Terror Star to demand tribute, he'd ask for 1BC, and end up selling the station for 5BC. It'd still be fun to watch the diplomacy clips of him in action, but. Hmm... you know those movies clips in ac for the wonders? Imagine clips for the wonders and trade goods here from some of our favourite tv shows and movies. Or would that be too cheesy? :)
I enjoy playing lots of small games. First, some of the randomness makes the games very different (e.g. in a gigantic game, you've got a good chance of getting resources, but in a small, you could have only one military resource on the whole map - and you're enemy's parked a base right on top. An even better reason is my comp's under minimum specs :) As for custom challenges, it just depends on how masochistic you are: Protege Conquest - choose one minor race, give them al
